whenever I hear this beautiful song I always think of Bernie Leadon's tribute to Gram, the Eagles "My Man". Thank you Gram for your immortal contributions to cosmic american music and to these artists for this lovely version of HW
For Ron, In South Carolina There're many tall pines I remember the oak tree That we used to climb But now, when I'm lonesome I always pretend That I'm gettin' the feel Of hickory wind I'd started out younger Had most everything All the riches and pleasures What else can life bring? But it makes me feel better Each time it begin Callin' me home Hickory wind It's a hard way to find out That trouble is real In a faraway city With a faraway feel But it makes me feel better Each time it begin Callin' me home Hickory wind Keeps callin' me home Hickory wind
Listening to this song made me a sad.... Why, because many years ago I happened to meet Gram Parsons at the house that he was renting in Los Angeles. I was just a kid and wasn't a musician or anything much regarding music, other than learning a little guitar then. I was over at Gram's place with a cousin of mine who owned the house, and I went with him to see about some repairs that needed to be done. I didn't even know who Gram Parsons was, but I learned after when I looked him up after he mentioned to me that he had started the Flying Burrito Brothers band. Gram was really nice and pleasant to talk with, after my cousin told him that I was learning to play guitar. Gram was really humble and genuinely kindly, I have never forgotten that. Shortly after, sadly he passed away. Thinking of my experience meeting Gram and the loss of his life, makes me sad.
My FAVORITE Emmy Lou Harris song. I remember the OZARKS WAY, WAY back when WAY before anyone new it exsisted. Floating down the river, Emmy lou and some Shromes.
Gram Parsons master piece...but nobody can perform this song as well as AJ Lee.. Her rendition has emotion, depth, pain and spirituality. I wish others realized this. Its not just her voice, the song is powerful and her innocence confined is untouchable.
I know that Molly is a two time Grammy winner now. But when I hear her sing this old timey song, it’s spellbinding. I just love her falsetto. Beautiful!
AJ Lee you should check out Something Special by AJ Lee and Blue Summit as well as To Mine by AJ Lee and Blue Summit....Gorgeous songs!...And they are after AJ is all grown up!
Well I can tell you ….you sang this with emotion and deep feeling . You have top marks from me that was beautiful. Also your group members were brilliant also . Love you all
