This is an incredible movie that delved into several pressing contemporary issues that plague our society. From child marriages and brothels to rampant drug abuse and child-headed orphaned households, the film thoroughly explored the harsh realities that many young girls face. But amidst all the adversity, it beautifully emphasized the importance of education and its transformative power. The protagonist, Simbiso, was an inspiration for all young girls out there. Despite her evil, jealous aunt's attempts to discourage her and force her into a polygamous marriage, Simbiso's determination and resilience shone through. Her relentless pursuit of education, even in the face of immense pressure, exemplified the strength of character needed to overcome societal norms. It was truly heartening to see her defy the odds and strive for a better future. The movie didn't shy away from showcasing the struggles faced by children living in poverty-stricken ghettos and or village life. It shed light on the harsh reality of child-headed households, where older siblings are forced to take on immense responsibilities. Through the elder brother's journey, we witnessed his transformation from the illicit dealings, wrong friends, a rebellious young man to a responsible guardian, shouldering the weight of his siblings' future. Thanks to the rehabilitation and counselling sessions that completely transformed him in Harare. This film not only exposed the darker aspects of our society but also taught valuable lessons to young girls, emphasizing the power of education, the fight against child marriages, and the importance of empowering oneself. It served as a poignant reminder that one's circumstances should never define their destiny. Our past is not personal. Furthermore, the movie beautifully highlighted the contrast between ignorance and knowledge, showcasing how education can liberate individuals and open the doors to a brighter future. Simbiso's journey from the village, to ghetto to studying law in England was awe-inspiring, portraying the immense potential and resilience within marginalized communities.
