I've lost count of how many times I've listened to "North Star". I am always impressed by the sophistication, unpredictability and beauty. The goddess of music is always respected and we listeners are the lucky ones. Thank you very much, Frank!
Frank, thanks for this! I always teach this to my students, that playing blues gives you a sense of feel, as though it’s the emotional basis - of much American musical expression. And from this sense of feel, we can play completely different languages and vocabularies of music, but always with an underlying sensibility, that the blues taught us. It is the same for composers of the 19th century in Italy, who drew from the feeling of expression of the Canzone Napoletane as a basis for composing arias in opera. This connection of the folk and popular song is integral to the feeling of music in, for example, Puccini.
Anyone looking to get into sweep picking: don’t overthink it. It is just a different way to get from one string to the next adjacent string. I still think that Joseph has a perfectly valid question here since I still questioned this years after switching to sweep picking🙏🏻❤️🎸
It is THE base for so many of us and don’t hate… many of us keep coming back even after our we can properly hear other styles anyway and who can blame us? For instance if you listen to Joe Bonamassa you are hearing one of the greatest blues artists of all time AND one of the most versatile players. Frank Gambale thank you Maestro🙏🏻❤️🎶🎸🚀
