If you have a laundry tub or a large tupperware, make sure it's clean and then throw your lego in with some hot water and dish soap. You basically just swoosh them around for 5-10 minutes. I recommend throwing a towel inside another large tupperware and then putting the lego on the towel to dry before emptying the tub (so you don't lose pieces down the drain).
My dad got rid of this giant box of lego I've had forever recently. I wish i could track down all the pieces to get them back. So many bionicles and classic sets gone :(
