Not timeless play standard it's less complicated because there are fewer sets available so you can know what to expect from your opponents and how to combat it better. Though the biggest issue i see is not enough interaction. If you're playing a 60 card deck you're going to want about 10 pieces of interaction (for a midrange deck that you were playing) which could include counterspells and death touch creatures it doesn't need to be instants and sorceries as long as it inter acts with your opponents gameplan. Preferably 1-2 mana spells to be able to deal with early threats and late game threats. Traditionally speaking discard isn't interaction unluss you can guarantee you can keep your opponents hand empty. Also it's fine to stick with what you feel most comfortable with while many would say it's good to branch out and become more versatile there is nothing wrong with just getting good with what you know and then branching out when you're more comfortable. Gameplay wise the biggest thing I should say is value card draw/card advantage a bit more it'll make your gameplan more effective. Sorry for the long rant hopefully it didn't seem condescending but the biggest thing to say is welcome to the game we hope you have fun any questions just ask.
