Does one simply unscrew the pole screws and screw new ones in?

I wonder if the recording process applies any (even a little) compression that might counter-act being able to hear the difference that you hear "live"? It could make sense.

Finally! The best damn video I've seen on You Tube on how to replace a selector switch on a Gibson Les Paul. I'm trying to replace my switch because the neck pickup is not working with the same volume as the bridge. My problem is I just don't have enough wiring at the switch to resolder or replace it. Sir you are a true professional at what you're doing (unlike a bunch of people trying to repair a guitar switch AND not explaining how the whole procedure works).

how do your pups compare to the Lead's original x1 pickup. I had a 80, and sadly sold it off in a moment of ignorance. I I have the Lead 2 player series currently...can I recapture my lost youth?

This was a great video Jon, as was the wiring harness video. One of my LPs, a Deluxe ('76/'77?) , that I've had for over 47 years has the metal plate and the cover. I'm contemplating changing to your '50s style wiring harness, so based on what you mentioned early on in the video, I guess I would need the long shaft? After watching this video, I think I may change the switch as well? Thanks and cheers, MB

Where’s the ground?! No ground needed to bridge??
@ThroBakChannel
@ThroBakChannel Месяц назад
For a vintage style Tele bridge the ground is established through the bridge pickup height adjustment screws that contact both the bridge plate and the bridge pickup elevator plate. The bridge pickup elevator plate is grounded which in turn grounds the bridge through the pickup height adjustment screws.

Both sound great. I don't know which ones I'd prefer in an I-35. I thought for sure I'd want the ESG 102Bs, but then I heard the ER custom set in that 335. Very tough decision.

I enjoyed your video, but want to ask you about the pickup heights you gave: would that be open strings or compressed at the last fret? I am using a MIM Fender player Tele with Fender Custom Shop 51 p'ups (wired in the traditional Nocaster way) and my strings are Infeld Superalloy IN 109, that's .009 - .042. What do you think?

Hi all! I own a pair of KZ 115, with the 50s wiring that sounds so nice, I love them incredibly, but i'm having troubles with my neck pickup. It sounds a little bit too much muddy and wobbly even following the video where Jon, explain how to adjust the pickups height. So i'm thinking to install a treble bleed only on the neck pickup. What do you think, does it's sacrilege? hahaha

You had me, on the edge of my seat. Thinking you’d just keep see-sawing the pickups, until the end of the video… whew😂 I’ve watched some five, or six videos that “radius” the pole pieces. Personally, I don’t think that’s a good final solution. It’s merely a good starting point.

Soldering on to the pot....it's so easy to burn out one when you leave the iron on too long. .what a pain these guys make it look so easy.....I do have the concept and it worked for me it's just not as neat. ..thanks Jon

thanks for the great video. One of my guitars is a Robin Savoy, with a BBQ Bucker in the bridge, and a Genuine Texas in the neck. both have vintage construction and the neck pick up is middle-of-the-road output and the bridge is more on the higher output. Over the years, making adjustments and trying different strings, things just haven't been sounding quite right. Did some tweaking per your video last night and I'm really liking the sound on getting out. Thanks!

Hi everyone ,I was wondering if you could help me out here. I was planning to change the cover of my pickups ( Gibson Humbucker 490r e il 498t) in gold tone so I would need to change the Pole Screws too in the same colour. I bought Pole Bolts - Slot Head 5-40 x 18mm (imperial). Did I get the right POLE Screws or did I need to buy different ones? I am still waiting to receive the guitar with those pickups so I can not really tell but these pole screw looks a little too small to my eyes. I am not an expert so I was wondering if you could help me out Thanks!

LP 115 eventually got home. It belongs with you as it's not retired, but rejuvenated. This is time travel. Loved the video. I used to wind my own pickups in the 70s, long before I understood about PAF winding, although I was naturally doing scatter winding. I got into PAFs because of Al di Meola in Return to Forever. Brilliant video.

Would the open , perimeter covers count for keeping your pickups safe if you still wanted uncovered tone ?
@ThroBakChannel
@ThroBakChannel 4 месяца назад
It’s better than no cover but it still does not protect the bobbin tape between the two coils or the square hole where the coil wire is exposed.

I watched this video a lot of times. One of my favorite. I'm just thinking at what RPM does the winding machine work? Does the speed can make different on the soud? Higher speed does make tighter the winding on the bobbin? Thanx for answering, TB the best! 🤘

I tend to play distorted and cranked, so I’ve always preferred dirty fingers (potted) or active pickups so as not to be a feedback nightmare.

You can salvage the strings by loosening enough to slide off the stop bar and changing out the pickups.

I'm very tempted to get a set of these for my R9. It's a beautiful sounding resonant guitar but I feel it could use some tonal enhancement. I am thinking either this set or the standard version of this set but with Alnico 4 magnets

There are some real charlatans selling pickups (not you guys or even Phil). But there are guys that make it sound like a $99 kit guitar with their pickups will blow away anything. Nothing else matters. You could take a 2x4, put strings on it with their pickups, and it'll be better than any Les Paul ever made.

Another interesting comparison. I did notice the difference in the early scales playing more so on the low strings. The higher strings tended to sound the same on my laptop.
