Welcome to my FISHING and FLY TYING channel where you will find several videos related to fishing across Ireland and the UK.
Here you will find a series of salmon fly fishing and fly tying videos, as well as videos for other game fish including sea trout and brown trout. I also dabble in saltwater and pike fly fishing and will try and get some content up here soon.

Small red doubles on the Tyne work well Sean, I fished yesterday and had 2 plucks on a pair of small doubles with no sink tip, had a coffee break and re-tackled to a sink tip with a small silver body red wing 1/2 tube and fished again through the same pool. Hooked a very decent and lively Salmon for about 5 minutes and lost it ! Love your tying, as I know it catches fish. ATB. Ivan
@@ibana8449 AHH hard luck Ivan but at least you got a scrap out of it anyway 👍 red is just deadly this time of the year. Foxy tails seems to have closed down but I do really love rubber over anything else on tails 🙈
You could also do that Eric 👍 some people even use cork plugs and put the hook through them but I like the neater look with all the hook exposed just. Fussy I know 😂
Sean, I am really big fan of your art! Not sure if you ever fished at Pacific North West but please tell me do you think your flies will work here for Pacific salmon? They look good to me. 🍺
@@Leavenotraceexpeditions thanks very much Zoran. I have never for Pacific salmon but it sure is on the bucket list! I wouldn't definitely try a range of patterns. A friend who fished for kings a few years back had great success on a red Francis which was quite a new pattern for the area he was fishing 👍
@@SeánWoodsFishing I am not suprised at all. Your fly patterns are so good. Some of my friends are sceptical using Atlantic salmon flies for Pacific salmon but they could be wrong 😏
@@billytheghillie thanks Billy 👍. It's very similar to the clan chief and even the clan goat and the claret bumble. To be honest...I wonder if the fish could really tell the difference between them 😂but a nice excuse to tie a different pattern 😉
@@keithfarrell957 definitely this one for late season but never had much luck on it earlier in year. That said I love the green butt cascade, green butt stoats, or even a green bodied cascade as well as the green bodied park. I've also had fish on the vimu. Not a massive colour I prefer but on it's day it was worked for me
@@ROSSLINDEN0 hi Ross and thanks for watching. The full video with finished fly and overview is linked as a related video but here is also the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EQPPmRDYfHg.html . Hope that helps 👍
@@rangerwhite5165 never had a season like it myself! In this pool in particular, the fish get hammered by seals every few hours so maybe it prevents them from over committing? Who knows 🤣🙈
@@potatopilot_6784 the fish were hitting the fly while it was being worked so I already had a connection to fish so couldn't give them time unfortunately. Size 18 micros didn't help in hooking either 😂. Hope you enjoyed watching 👍
@@Barry287 great to hear you enjoyed your trip Barry. August can be an difficult month on the Moy and even tougher now with the constant high water. Hope it didn't put you off and you try again some time 👍
@@thedoggedangler thanks for watching 👍 a nice build up of fish that just switched on for a few hours after keeping their heads down for a day...thats the joys of salmon for you 😂
I agree with you Sean. I can only fish with my flies. To be able to make something with my hands that blends into nature so well that a fish wants to eat it is exhilarating. I also like to modify a pattern to make it a more creative process.
Catching a salmon on a self made and designed fly from the materials available will always be the ultimate buzz for me. Perhaps it will remain a joy and hobby when my shoulders eventually pack up on me but until then I will continue to chase my dog around and interfere with pheasants in order to obtain some fluff to tie with
Hush!🤫that was popular in the late 60's. I was in my teens. Sean, you must love music from that era cuz you don't look that old. Oh yeah, awesome double. Rule of thumb where I live, fall colors for salmon and browns in the Lake Ontario tribs. That Stoats Tail gold and orange fit the bill. I saw a stoat (ermine) about 25 years ago, in its brown coat, drag a dead rabbit under a wood pile. Last winter I saw one in it's winter coat and black tip tail hunting behind my old machine shed. Your awesome Sean, got me all pumped up with this short!😅❤✊️
@@joeduca8582 glad it got you pumped Joe 👌it's a great song, I love all kinds of music and genres 🎸 I remember first hearing this during a car advert and loved it immediately 👌wasn't around in the 60s though 🙈
I just find it relaxing Seàn... i also find i only use my own now... you are spot on about being confident using them... we all have our wee secrets! 🤣
@@jamescompston2678 absolutely James, great for the head too. When people say he's already fished through a pool and no joy, I always think...yeah but he hasn't fished through it with one of these...😂
An older man working in an Angling shop said to me years ago “that fly tying was more expensive than fishing/fly fishing its self.” He was and still is 💯 % spot on!
Very well explained Sean. And I agree it is a hobby in itself that gets hold of you. I too have spent a small fortune on this hobby but to catch on your own is the ultimate. But always make sure to tie a couple of that same pattern, just in case.😊👍
