Mike I know this is an old video but could you let us know if the new banana posts changed the sound or sonic signature of the SX-1050 ? Also since living with it for awhile would you make or suggest any changes? Thanks, Glen
Wicked bike had same in 80s sale moor one way system good times, does anyone remember John mcciver could wheelie his white one from stand still, out of sight up washway rd with his girlfriend Jill on the back 🤔
You have done a excellent job here, I don’t think it could be done any better, it looks like a factory job. It is refreshing to see someone do a modification to such a high standard.
what an impressively performed modification, brilliant job. i’m a bit of a perfectionist myself, and, like you, i dont perform any mods that don’t look like they were done from the factory. The way you designed and created that plate actually would have anyone believing that receiver came from pioneer the way made it. I’m looking to do this myself on a newer, but still vintage Pioneer SX-V400 from 1985. The Bose speakers its mated to use a pretty common terminal cup, so I can have them done for just a few bucks and a few minutes of my time. What’s really holding me up, however, is that I kinda want to get rid of my receiver for its big brother, the one I was hunting down originally when I got the V400: the SX-V900, the top of the line AV receiver also from 1985, and, along with the V400, the last of the SX-V line before Pioneer went all-in on surround sound AV receivers in 86 with the VSX-5000. being a somewhat tedious mod, I don’t see much of a desire to do it twice. But considering I’m not sure when I’ll be able to find and replace my receiver with the one I’m hunting for, I might get impatient and get started anyway. I guess Itll be some “practice” for later, so when I do get what I want, I’ll have some experience... I guess that’s one way i can look at it
Nice bike, I have just bought one very similar, what tyre size are you running on the rear, mine has an 18x4 and I thought they were supposed to be an 18x3.5. Thanks
Congratulations, the value of this amplifier has dropped to a quarter of what it was worth before you molested it. The original pioneer factory wire wrapped speaker terminals are gone! The original speaker terminals were more than adequate for the power of this amplifier, you clearly are using wire that is to large for what this amplifier needs, don't think for one minute that you know better than the Japanese engineers that designed it, if you wanted an easier connection, you should have sold this to someone who appreciates what it is for what it is and got yourself something that came with banana plug sockets for the speaker terminals! But it to late now! You have already cut the wires and put those things that don't suit the amplifier! This action makes you look like the sort of person who will purchase a fibre optic cable with gold plated ends! Yes they do make them, because people like you are stupid enough to believe that it makes a difference in sound quality! I really hope that you are proud of what you have done here!
Thanks for your comments, but I sold the amp for more than I bought it for 3 years ago and the new owner was delighted by the mod. Also, judging by the other positive comments it would suggest you are the stupid one!
@@1884mray the new owner is clearly dumber than the mod! Those huge binding posts have so much surface area that they might as well have been antennas to pick up RF noise! The original speaker terminals had less surface area, do you honestly think that they were just being stingy? No! There was nothing wrong with the original terminals, the wire wrap technique was so effective that NASA used it on their Apollo missions to the moon! They knew about using a screw to connect a wire, ahh but the screw would unscrew itself under vibration which is going to happen with the wires going into the back of those wanker connectors... You really shouldn't mess with stuff that's beyond your comprehensive ability. The correct gauge of speaker wire to be used with that amplifier would be available in the owners manual which can be found online! Putting racing stripes on a donkey won't get it to win a horse race! Some people just never really learn...
Amazing piece of work Ray! I was based at RAF Mildenhall as a helicopter mechanic many years ago; lived in Ely in the Midlands. Do you have any details you could share on your masterpiece? I have the same receiver and would love to retrofit it with the same. Thanks for your incredible work!
Hi Craig. Thanks for your compliment. This was a long time ago and I had a lathe and mill which I used to make the plate but I no longer have. However, you’ve inspired me to do the same to my current amp SX-1250 which has the same speaker terminal arrangement so I’m assuming the same sizes etc. I’ll make sure and post drawings, sizes etc and parts I’ve used. Mike
@@1884mray Hi Mike. I own a SX-1250 and would like to copy what you've done here. Its an excellent modification by you in my opinion. The spring clips are really a glaring weakness for these classic receivers. Would you have any dimensions for the plate you machined? And would you have a link or part # to the binding posts you purchased?
