Probably the best video on this repair I have watched. Truly meticulous work by someone skilled at PCB repairs. Questions! If the solder points on the other end of the harness are intact, can you simply remove the end going to the potentiometer, strip the wires back, and retain the harness to avoid unnecessary soldering (especially if you aren't as skilled as you are!?) Next, I have a decent soldering iron with fine tip, but it doesn't have the built in vacuum as yours does. Would you recommend using a wick to remove the solder or is a soldering iron like yours critical? Also, can you recommend a solder? I understand there is solder specific for PCB repair.
@@mountainbiker4450 you are too kind! I wanted to repair the board for a friend so I would never see it again, so I fixed it best I could. You could just repair the broken wires and that would be sufficient. I don’t like solder wick, it tends to leave residue that’s hard to clean off the connections, depending on the brand and chemicals in the wick. I’ve used 63/37 tin lead that’s water washable for 20+ years and that works for everything I need to do. Good luck!!
@@spe672 Thanks. I see there are these solder suction devices on Amazon. Do you have any experience with them? Also, after suction of the old solder, is it critical to refill the cleaned out circuit holes with solder and then suction again, before final soldering of the wire? I think the less I try to mess with those little holes, the better.
@@mountainbiker4450 I’ve used the manual solder vacuum that you are referring to, and I think it worked, but it was a really long time ago. I’ve used this Pace soldering station for probably 15 years. I filled the holes a second time and then vacuumed them back out just to make sure I removed all the old solder and it was ready for wires to be soldered in it. If you can get everything cleaned out then the first try, that’s probably all you need to do.
I looked all over to find an email for where I ordered this from, but no luck. This one from Stewmac is the same, but I didn't order it from there. www.stewmac.com/electronics/components-and-parts/battery-clips-and-holders/battery-box/
I believe this is the same one too. Gotoh is the manufacturer. www.allparts.com/collections/battery-shielding-gear/products/ep-2929-9-volt-top-mount-battery-compartment
Nice mix of sirens here. The first blast at 0:20 consisted of the following sirens: Thunderbolt 1000T at Central Ave and Webb Rd- 1 mile away 2001-SRN at 13th St and Rock Rd- 1.1 miles away Thunderbolt 1000 at Kellogg and Rock Rd- 1.1 miles away Thunderbolt 1000 at Central Ave and Edgemoor St- 1.5 miles away The second clip recorded at the Davis-Moore car dealership at 2:25 seems to consist of: Thunderbolt 1000T at Greenwich Rd and Waterman St- 0.6 miles away Thunderbolt 1000 at Kellogg Drive and Rock Rd- 1.5 miles
I have this same model, minus the piezo, same colour with Johns signature on the head too. I took it to London years ago and got John to sign the front above the strings with a silver felt pen, the signatures faded bad now. Funny that! I wonder how you came up in my feed?
Add little “dead cat” wind covers on the mic ports. Super cheap and improves quality like you paid a professional a ton of money to clean it up in post-production. 🙂
Thank you for the information. And I am one who agrees with you about the brightness. I certainly understand why many would want the brightness. I personally do not keep it in my bedroom as it's too bright
Weird! I’ve tested the three min timer on both a Red Baton 2 and 5th anniversary Baton 3. Turning the light on, letting the timer shut it off and then turning it back on they were both back to normal mode and stay on after 3 mins. I also turned on the baton 3, put it into 3 min timer mode, let it go for a minute, shut it off, turned it back on and it ran for 3.5 mins after that without turning itself off.
6:01 Use a small part of a clear adhesive tape and simply cover the port with this. That's what I do with my sidekick after I've lost too many silicone plug covers. It's simple, cheap and durable. Greetings from Germany !
Just got back from doing a couple of laps. Way fun. The trees shortly after the open grass area got me the first time but knew it was coming the second go around and no problem.
