As the guy who put Simple Elegance back on RU-vid after whatever channel uploaded it years ago went down, yeah, it's not easy to find - I had to go to Soulseek, piracy for the win. Simple Elegance isn't their best anyway, it's a very raw and lumpy sub-Locust noise rock record - not quite the epic Symphonic Black Metalcore of Ride the Blade. Very cool band that I first heard of back when I was really into the weirdo Powerviolence of Gasp and Crom. Ride the Blade is a huge influence on my own "Hardcore with keyboards" peoject The Party Asteroid Apocalypse.
Oh man, I haven’t heard anyone bring up Crom in ages… they definitely were (are?) a weird f’n band. Does your project have a Bandcamp page or anything? If so, I’ll give it a listen!
@@OODLESOFBRUTALS The Party Asteroid Apocalypse only just started, we don't really have any songs to show yet - pretty much just band members and the dream of "What if HORSE the Band had a drum machine and played Nails songs?" But when we do put shit out I'll be sure to send it your way.
I've dragged so many people to see gary, who think he'll do 80s greatest hits...and they get blown away. Stunned in fact. They can't believe it's industrial, and he rocks. Not many chances to stun people like that in any genre, with legacy music. Gary killed at cruel world last year. People thought all bands just would play 80s glory day hits, and a couple new songs nobody wanted. He played new stuff that rocked. Minds blown. Word of mouth is building a numan legion. Incredible resurgence 40 years later. Nobody else has that. And with most modern acts sucking these days, his talent is top form.
I was totally blown away by Numan! I had sampled some of his newer stuff beforehand but that did still not prepare me for how amazing he was live! I’ve long been a fan of his early stuff but this show has me diving into his discography.
Great review. I don’t know Ministry as I am a Numan fan but I will check them out. Great to hear Numan is doing well. seeing him on a retro pleasure principle tour in the uk in May.
Thanks for posting. I first got into ministry when I saw them in 92 at Lollapalooza, and was blown away. They quickly became my favourite band of all time and I've never stopped listening to them, but when I went to see them 3 days ago I discovered Gary Numan and have been playing his music for 3 days straight. Amazing tour 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I highly recommend Fad Gadget (Frank Tovey), excellent 80's electronic industrial. In addition to FG, he also released several folk/acoustic albums as Frank Tovey. It's sad that he died at such a young age.
I saw the Burn my eyes tour. They played a 700-person venue and blew the doors off the motherfucking place. Ine of my fondest memories. I caught them again in a 1700 seat venue during an ice storm when only 150 people showed up. The show was so good I cried.
I love how everyone gives Pantera a mention. They're my fav and obv highly considered by anyone groove. Even if somebody didn't know metal and you say name a groove band that's who they'll say
Pantera should arguably have two or more places in the top 20. Far beyond driven or vulgar display could easily be in the top ten metal albums, never mind their own sub-genre.
@@grouchyolddan I find cowboys from hell, more thrash meets heavy metal and elements of groove as well. The last 4 albums are pure groove metal albums. But yes I should throw in cowboys as well, you can’t go wrong with that album either.
"I'M BROKE!" Far Beyond Driven rules. First CD I ever bought. Before I even had a cd player! I totally agree it opened the flood gates. Great list, man. I've got a few to check out no!
@@OODLESOFBRUTALS I saw the video for "5 Minutes Alone" and it changed my life. A friend bought it for "Planet Caravan" and didn't know what the rest was like. I happily took it off his hands.
Heck yeah man, I’ll be sure to check it out! And yes, White Zombie was a great band; they called it a day too soon. I do enjoy Rob’s solo stuff, but WZ reigns supreme.
I don't think Gojiras first album is Groove Metal really. Maybe the third album might be, but the early stuff is Technical Death Metal with a bit of Prog in there and then the third album is kind of a Proggy Groove Metal album, fourth album is kind of a mix of all of those genres (Tech Death/Prog/Groove Metal). For my own Groove Metal picks, I'd have to say stuff like Pantera, Black Label Society, Exhorder, Prong, Grip inc, Vision of Disorder, Merauder, Graveyard Rodeo, Coroner, Damageplan, All Out War, Lamb of God, Strapping Young Lad, Chimaira, Incite and Throwdown. Lots of picks there, but I would definitely say that when you listen those bands, you can definitely see that Groove Metal is a subgenre for sure.
I dunno man, I don’t really hear tech death when I listen to Terra Incognita, I hear more groove/death hybrid, but hey, to each their own! That said, if you don’t think TI is groove metal, some of my upcoming picks might really bake yer ol’ noodle! ;) Lots of good choices amongst the bands you listed out; several of them will most definitely be getting mentioned in the remaining installments!
Saw King Diamond during the winter in the mid 90's, in a mostly empty theatre, mid-week in East Toronto. Cathedral opened up. Currently trying to play "Nuns have no Fun" on guitar", without much success...
The first two (hed)PE albums are great! I lost track of them after that for a number of reasons, but still have lots of love for the s/t and Broke. They were amazing live back then as well.
Think of music as a frame of mind in which you process auditory information rather than the stimulus itself. This makes it so that anything can be music, which means Merzbow's work is also music.
Awsome video man mortician is amazing I've been jaming them since 2002, I've got mortician tattooed on my gut cholo style 😎 , I just picked up domain of death cassette big box 50 copy, lol massacre live was the 1st album I got and my least favorite, the recording is so bad \m/
