I really appreciate this teaching! I have been in the music industry for 40 years… I have done a lot of stuff… but my bios can become a list instead of giving that crucial element of “How can I relate” or “what’s in it for me” for the reader… this gives me a lot to think about. Thanks!

Hi ! Thanks for the video :). About the parts that can be recorded at home, providing the acoustic is good, (not talking about DI but acoustic guitar for instance, or even vocals ) would you say the Audient ID22 is professional enough for radio release quality ? I’m confused because people seem to say it has better preamps than the Apollo twin for instance, despite being less expensive. I have an Audient ID22 and I’m just wondering if professional results can be achieved with it or if I just shouldn’t bother haha. Other folks say Apollo Twin or RME Babyface are the minimum for pro recordings. Thanks !
@frommusiciantoartist
@frommusiciantoartist Месяц назад
Hey! I do not think cheaper pre amps are the barrier to pro recordings. It's all in the mix. You could 100% get pro level results from the ID22, no question.

I listened to your reaction for beautiful things, benson Boone, it is very interesting and enlightening how,you break down a song from a writers perspective, i would be very interested in your follow-up reactions to get a more definitive perspective on how benson Boone is as a artist and song writer. I think he is very unique, and creative but I do not have the expertise you do to give a professional evaluation of how good or average benson Boone is, Thank you. Don

Yes, benson Boone is very talented and creative in his song writing and design, I learned a lot from your analysis, actually appreciate the song more after your analysis, i would be interested in hearing your analysis of his song. “Slow it down” and “cry”. Lots of transitions in both these songs, it is his thing. Thanks.

Found this by accident, but from a listener point of view who has RU-vid Music, I can actually see why this would be a good platform for musicians and could end up being the best place for them: no distributor; the algorithm is probably better at finding what you’re looking for; no limits on uploads and the subscribe and like buttons are right there in both YT and YT Music, so new uploads show up in their feed. The thing is - I tended to use RU-vid Music for older music videos found only on here. Click like on anything that’s musical and those show up as music in the YT Music player. I’ve now got a good collection of playlists of both new and old music in YT Music and most comes from this (YT Music does also have it’s usual music as a cheap subscription which is also included with premium - which I have). I’ll just mention for audio quality - that all depends on how it was uploaded and they support lossless too. I used to sub to Apple Music and Spotify, but honestly I find everything I want here. If I can’t find it here or YT Music - Bandcamp. The only thing I’m not sure of is how well RU-vid pay creators for say a 4 min song here vs YT Music once they hit the subscriber minimum vs Spotify etc., but you’re more likely to be found here than say Spotify where the labels dictate what they think you should listen to. No distributor also means not having to deal with Tunecore too, so that’s a bonus!

I'm grateful for the information. All that matters, though, is that everyone is aware of the theoretical side. However, it's not feasible. Simply start from scratch and write the verse, chorus, bridge, and intro/outro lyrics. Gradually establish rhythm and melody.

When I send a link to a song I wrote, after it plays, Soundcloud starts playing some song I didn't write and never heard of. So I stopped using Soundcloud to share the songs I write. I can't seem to turn off that goofy feature that starts playing some other song after mine, I guess to deceive the listeners into thinking I wrote that song too. Why?

I was the principal songwriter in a band called Feathermerchants. It's on all the streaming sites. I am in a new band now called the Plains of Abraham and, once again, I am the principal songwriter. Writing the music is easy but the lyrics are hard and since I've been having trouble coming up with them recently I started roaming around for inspiration. I pretty much do what you do. I look for stories inside of stories. Sometimes I do fall into the trap of filling every second of the song with lyrics so your advice on that front was helpful. Now, here's something that might be useful to you. The most productive time for songwriting, for me at least, is the half hour before you've fallen asleep. If I could remember the lyric when I wake up, thats a good indication that it is worth something. I used to tell my bandmates about this and they I was crazy. On 60 Minutes a few years ago, a kid at MIT confirmed that the 30 minutes prior to sleep is the most creative of the day and it has a name. Hypnogia. I contacted the kid and he said that Mozart and Wagner both composed full operas in a hypnogiatic state. Try this: open a word document on your computer and keep it in bed with you. Dim it to the lowest possible legible level so you remain in the state. If you think of something type it in and try to remain in the state. It's better than paper and pen. Here is the link to MIT's page. news.mit.edu/2023/sleep-sweet-spot-dreams-creativity-0515
