Wow! This was the best race I ever seen from a video recording! I wish I was there live! Special thanks to the Norwegian people and their band that played the Star Spangled banner! Great racing to Matt Alcone and Jerry Gilbreth! Congratulations 🎊
I can see the big beautiful Oceanliner that was originally the France but now Swedish owned and renamed The Blue Lady! A magnificent ship! But that's what offshore powerboat racing is all about, racing in the most beautiful Port Cities around the world!
For the Spirit of Qatar 95 and Spirit of Qatar 96, Each Race Boat has at least 2 Spare Engines at the Race Sight. The Engines are regular sent back to Modena, Italy for rebuild. By the time The Point of No Return has been reached, in a Blow Over, the Throttles have been longed closed. Therefore Zero Water Ingesting. For a Stuff, Major Engine Damages, since time is so limited to react.
I liked how the boat actually flew upside-down in the air for a brief moment. Proves the hull's shape is both hydrodynamic and aerodynamic. Perfect for idiots who can't afford both a boat and a plane.
Good times! I remember these races well. Too bad there were financial problems with the events the later years. The sound and sight of these glorious machines was profound!
