I finally read Light on Dumyat recently and knew the places Rennie McOwan was talking about, which made it doubly enjoyable. I may have lived in its shadow but I've still never been up it! Thanks for this.
Hi Gingerman, glad to see you back in my neck of the . The local archaeologist dig some recent digs on Dumyat and found lots of evidence of a Pictish settlement. I hope he publishes it. One of my favourite walks is to follow the track around Menstrie Glen to the old ruined farmhouse at Jerah. By the way if you fancy a steeper climb, go up from Menstrie Glen, that's a wee bit more of a climb😮
Dumyat is about 30 mins drive from my home and I've climbed it many times. I alternate the Sherrifmuir road climb with doing it from Blairlogie car park. It adds a bit of ascent and time on to the hike.
@@GingerManWithACam never been pal i dont drive i used to do alot of hill walking with my old gaffer we used to walk hills alot at the weekends he moved away upto lewis 😞 so dont see him much anymore used to meet at the rugby at murreyfield but hes gave that up anaw to auld fur it now plus rugbys to dear so were getting on in our ages as time passes our self cant handle it anymore shame cause i love scotland i done all the munros ochil hills and ben nevis also and edinburgh and arran also but glen co was 1 of a few i never got to do plus the west highland way 😞
shame those churches no longer get used such a waste to be derlict ot should be made into a house thats what most churches and schools do now once derlict people buy them to make them into there house
Nice video of my default hill. The pylons replaced lower ones about 10-15 years ago. They are part of a line from Denny to Beauly. It was argued that it was too expensive to have the line underground. There was a local campaign against them being built. I agree that the view would be better without them but, as the stone near the start of your video says, the electricity company built the car park as a kind of compensation. It also vastly improved the path up Dumyat which used to be very muddy. Rennie McOwan was a journalist and hill walker / mountaineer who loved the Ochils and lived in Menstrie at the foot of Dumyat. He wrote "LIght on Dumyat." He died in 2016 at the age of 85. I think the bridge you mention is an old [railway?] bridge from South Alloa to the Kincardine side of the Forth. It is now in disrepair. However, you can see the Kincardine Bridge from the top of Dumyat. Now for the smart-arse bit. Ben Cleuch is pronounce "Clooch" not "ClooAch."
Brilliant vid,i used to go throo to whitburn during the summer holidays from the 1970s till the 80s for the gala day & stay with my aunty Joan & uncle Joe & my cousins, great times we had playing down at the burn when it was nice & clean before the new build houses came along, great memories thanks for the video 👍🏴
Heading up here for a 3 day stay before moving on to Invergarry in November. I visit 🏴 twice a year- normally in and around Aviemore. This trip is somewhere new to explore and I can’t wait. I do like to familiarise myself with the area first so I can get the most out of our trip
Great place, some great trails down by the river, I remember a little shack with an honesty box where you could buy strawberries. That's about the only thing I remember about the place. Hasn't changed much it seems ginger bam 🤘
I live in Crombie and I do love it, can look out of my windows and see the farmers fields , go for quiet country walks (from home) to the Forth river etc ... which is a completely different life to the major large city i grew up in.
WHAT ON EARTH POSSESSED YOU TO VISIT MADDISTON L.O.L , PERHAPS THE MOST INTERESTING BEING MUIRAVONSIDE COUNTRY PARK, THE ALIEN PLACE IS BONNYBRIDGE THAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT.
We were in Charlestown/Limekilns today. I seen that the Harbour is closing, so many abandoned looking boats. Really enjoyed your video, cheers Gingerman 😊
