Hey 👋🏾, my name's Whitney and I am an Adventure Filmmaker and this is my story about Recapturing Life. What does that mean? It means taking hold of the pen and living your story.
I have always been fat. In this world you're told to stop being lazy and lose weight. Despite the fact that losing weight is not that simple. I am also a Black woman and in my family adventuring outside of the societal norms isn't easily understood. Luckily because of stories I started to see what was actually possible. A 400 lbs man walking the PCT, or a 300 lbs guy skateboarding and lifting himself in the air to do skateboard tricks. A 300 lbs woman doing multiple ultra marathons. And the stories of so many Black and Brown people experiencing life in the great outdoors. I realized that there is a place for me.
So I got on a bike and went on my own adventures. Sharing my thoughts, problems and experiences along the way.
Watching parts i missed. Omg the Hill of death 😮. I was breathing like that just on hills in my neighborhood this summer at 5200 ft elevation. Since then my heart has been getting flutter. Scared to bike toi much. Do you have a Garmin? Might be a good idea.
@@mbords01 I wish. Maybe one day I can. For now I get dropped off at an airport or train station and head to a destination. My home town doesn’t have any good riding.
Winter biking experience? I haven't planned a bike tour during the winter. Only summers. Currently I am South Korea during the fall but not planning on winter biking.
@@PeacefulPlanting-Sydnee Yes, I will make that video for you soon. No I don’t have a biking computer yet. I was planning to get one I just wasn’t sure about it. I currently use my phone. Strava and a map app. Currently here in Korea the map app is Kakao Maps. On my biking across America it was google maps.
@@PeacefulPlanting-Sydnee Yellowstone was amazing! I completely recommend it! I have learned that solo travel isn’t as scary as we’re being led to believe. Yes there are bad people out there but there are a whole lot of good people too. Just lesson to your instincts and grow them to look out for you. So you can make the best decision for yourself. But yes be brave and adventure! My parents, siblings and friends all have my location. I check in daily. I hope you take some time to explore. Let me know if you have any questions!
You are so inspiring and I love your videos. So grateful I found you on here. Exact content I was looking for! The music is a bit loud and it can be hard to hear you a little bit but you are doing so great with editing. You are amazing and inspiring ❤ Thank you!
@@PeacefulPlanting-Sydnee Thank you so much! I will definitely pay attention to the music levels in the future. Working on fine tuning that. I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
If you're a nightmare then you're my new favorite kind! You are amazing! congratulations! Thank you for also showing all the kindness of strangers. That alone inspires me ❤❤❤
Wooooweeeee! I love this so much! I congratulations on this beautiful journey. You are brave, inspirational and strong😊😊😊😊 Keep biking!!!! Keep traveling and thank you for sharing it with us!🎉🎉🎉
So inspiring! When you started out you were pleased to make 20 miles in a day. Now you can do 87 miles a day - and with all that gear! That’s quite an accomplishment. And your trip looked really beautiful. It made me want to get on a bike and go. The lessons I learned from this are a) you don’t have to be ready to do it all when you begin, you just have to start and keep going; and b) don’t stick to your plan too much, but be open to detours and new ideas as you go.
@@mgittler Thank you so much. One of the main things I loved while out there was seeing myself grow. In small ways and large. I was indeed ecstatic when I completed 20 miles. And then 87 was mind blowing. It really shows that you are capable of a lot. I agree with those lessons 100%. I honestly think it’s important sometimes. Because we can create way to many scenarios as to why we are not ready yet. When we most likely are. And yes not sticking to a plan can make everything more enjoyable. You never know what could happen if you’re flexible. I hope you try a bike tour. Even if it’s an overnighter. It is a great experience.
Nothing wrong with being off the bike when you need it. I took a train a few times while cycling Japan. Once to get off a road I didn't feel safe on, once to make a ferry I was going to be late for and once to get ahead to a major city faster to get my camera repaired.
@@jodyssey9921 That’s what I had to learn. I think at first I was hard on my but understanding that is is okay. Especially when you have to stay safe. How did you like cycling Japan? I’ve been thinking about it after Korea, I’m just thinking about winter coming up.
Congratulations! I am proud of EVERY moment! Rather by car, bike, hike, train, bus, whatever. You were out there. YOU did the work. You persevered through the rough times, the weather, the detours, the mechanical issues. YOU did that! This is your journey and no one gets to diminish it in any capacity because you did or didn’t “follow” perceived standards. Yes. You biked across the America. Period. Great job 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🤩🤩
@@shelleyshell9441 😭 Thank you so much!I appreciate you! I appreciate your words. This was something I had to learn and remember. I did extremely well despite all the mishaps. Everything went the way it needed to to keep me safe and biking. Thank you Shelley!
