Great video and some amazing shots of the birds we have here. :) It was a pleasure having you here and getting to share our beautiful sanctuary with you! Thanks for the shout-outs and spotlight on the voluntary work being done here and in many other places along the shore - without it, the situation for many of our endangered shorebirds would be even more dire than it already is. See you soonish!

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I did two more videos in the series, on Myiarchus and Empidonax Flycatchers. Flycatchers can be worrisome but I’m sure you’ll have a great time over here :) What’s your itinerary?
@CBungus

@@jabirustories This is a late response, as I'm leaving tomorrow, but I will going to La Fortuna for three days and then to Manuel Antonio national Park for three days. I'll admit it's a family trip so I won't be birding all the time, though we do have stuff planned for birding. If you've spent time in either of these places, tips would be great!
@jabirustories
@jabirustories Месяц назад
@@CBungus That's great, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time! For La Fortuna, the go-to seems to be the Arenal Observatory Lodge, and it's a very special place, not only for birding but also generally for hiking. The other place that I always recommend to birders travelling with non-birders is the Bogarin Trails. It's famous for the sloths that are quite easy to see there, but you'll always have some good birds as well (I've found it to be very reliable for Black-and-White Owl). If you can sneak in a half-day trip to Cano Negro, that can be fantastic during the wet season as well! For dinner, I love Snapper's and Chifa La Familia Feliz. I'm not really familiar with Manuel Antonio to be honest, but if you're driving between the two, depending on your route Ceiba de Orotina can be a good stop-over. It's essentially a farm road, but a pretty good one for morning birding ;) Enjoy your time - and just let me know if I can help with something!

@jabirustories
@jabirustories Месяц назад
Thanks so much! The north has some surprises, a couple of months ago we went to Rincon de la Vieja and saw both lesser ground cuckoo and a sunbittern (!) on the same walk, while the birders we met turned around and were even luckier with a sighting of a rufous-vented ground cuckoo (the „ghost of the rainforest“). To be honest though, rainy season can be tough 😅 Thanks for stopping by! I’m way behind not only on my videos but on yours too… Pura Vida 🇨🇷

Over-tourism is our fault. Your excellent videos entice others to bird in Costa Rica. I started birding San Gerardo back in the 80’s with groups from the US. We have met the enemy and HE is US.

It’s actually a rather new hotel in town called Arenal Morana. It was a very good budget option at the time, everything brand new and well done. They’re also associated with the Xilopalo so you get access to their pool and free breakfast I believe. I’d highly recommend it, incredible views especially from the corner room. Like I mentioned in the video, I really value walking distance to restaurants and bars and it’s a perfect balance.

This is so funny, im on my internship in CR right now, and this weekend me and our internship crew visited cahuita! Yesterday, we went to the NP, lovely to see your take on it. I found the amounts of beach goers and tourists (even though i am one) a bit annoying at times, and the hand-tame monkeys an raccoons made it feel like a zoo, but the other animals/birds where great! Sadly i wasnt able to get good photos of my target that day, magnificent frigatebird (only saw them distantly). Lovely to see your videos, ¡Pura Vida!

Thank you! I really hope to go birding Colombia some day soon! Any recommendations? The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is a region that I'm really curious about. tourist overcrowding is a problem .. i'm a loner & freak out in lg groups, but, problem is tourism = 💴💶💷💵 & ppl are social creatures, the 'water cooler' effect ... even in scotland we see the damage left behind .. the canary islands & parts of europe are seeing violent confrontations between locals & tourists .. hope it doesn't come to this in CR ..

I really like your videos. They were great for preparing me for my trip to Costa Rica last month and now that I am back I appreciate them even more as I have been to these places. I was with a small group and we found all our quetzals ourselves and without any crowds. I certainly prefer it that way. That being said, I do try to see a rare vagrant if it shows up close to where I live. But that's fun also because I know I'll meet many of my local birding buddies there. I would not travel long distances to see a rare bird. Looking forward to your next video from cerro de la muerte. I am sure you saw Volcana Juncos 😍
