So the explosive damage section of this video is deprecated now. As it turns out, your observations of inconsistent explosive damage was due to explosions dealing damage to multiple body parts at the same time, which was causing it to stack and deal damage multiple times. Patch 1.000.200 from April 2nd fixed this.
What’s bothering me is I was sitting here about 30 minutes ago using them and THINKING…are the blasts random or is there always a pattern with the blasts.
Without any real testing but from what both me and friends noticed is that the detection for different factions "rely" on different things. Like bugs relying more on sound for detection meaning they can spot behind cover while bots are almost entirely visual letting you kill them in one shot without alerting any nearby guys sometimes. Again. None of this is actually tested, and is just what I've noticed pretty early on in my playing
plenty of games select a random seed through the player coordinates and/or viewpoint. So if you perform an action at the same exact float location twice itll yield identical results, but move an imperceptible distance aside and its entirely different. It's not random, no, but its lexically fair to call these prng events random for their practical application.
Are you going to make more Helldivers videos at some point? It'd be cool to have some in-depth analysis since the big rebalancing patch (well, or maybe after the second half of it that's coming soon)
I still hate the Barrages, minus the napalm. Because the napalm actually does its job. The 120 and 380 almost never destroy the outposts they're thrown at. But always kill me when I don't need the support.
Watching this Sep 2024, every game community needs people like you! Dedicated researchers with actual scientific processes. And wonderful editing skills to boot!!!
Man, fantastic. All the other videos just assume I know ever little detail about this game already. You start with the very basics and walk us all the way through. Immediate subscribe
I like the 380 and 120 but now I know for sure that the safest place is actually right on top of the laser, probably won’t use it much anymore. Cuz apparently constantly missing is a feature
Have thought on the angle of the bomb dropping? Depending on the place of your destroyer, the angle to the surface will change, is quite easy to see with the orbital laser... Maybe it have some impact... This is an excellent video btw, very meticulous, I'm impressed
Now hear me out we program the pattern into a mobile app so we can see the stratergem we choose to throw and impact pattern on our mobile device as a sky view targeting system
honestly the best way to find the location of a shell, look up into the sky, doesn't require a lot of prediction but also won't get you killed (Unless a bug or bot gets a good shot at you)
You overcomplicated the walking one: the barrage 'center' is just moving to the throw direction alongside with the initial pattern (which you showed at 12:00 as arrow starting points). The radius of the circles you showed is just a delay before the salvo is fired. P.S. I think the spead is random, there is no point in saving predetermined patterns in memory. You're probably just unintantionally manipulating the rng - maybe the rng seed resets to the same value each time you rejoin the mission. Regarding spreading the impact points - there are several algorithms for this - Poisson Disk Sampling or Fibonacci Spiral Sampling. The second one is not random per se, but I don't recognize it in the shown spreads
