Hey there! My name's Malik, but I go by TheCartoonGamer here on RU-vid, among other places. I'm a guy who makes videos to what my channel name implies. Video games and cartoons are two of my favourite forms of entertainment, and I hope to make videos about them that everyone can enjoy.
Happy 30th Anniversary to Donkey Kong Country, and hoorah to this trilogy! My favorite Games aside from the Mass Effect Trilogy. To the Stamper Brothers, RARE Staff, David Wise, Evelyn Novakovic, Robin Beanland and every artist who made these games...Thank You! ❤️🦧🏝🌴
I believe the show was initially French, then translated to English. Filled with "second degré" humor, and reference to French pop-culture, all of this didn't made it in the English dub which left this empty shell of a show. I blame the localizer to not properly localize the cartoon. I would even say the translator were lazy because _"It'S fOr KiDz WhY bOtHeR!!§"_ For exemple, King K. Rool is pronounced King Karool because... the letter K in French is pronounced _Ka_ and not _Kay._ Or Kongo Bong island is probably a nod to a the French singer Manu Chao who released his song _King of Bongo_ (in 1991), itself being a hommage to the title and lyrics taken from the 1939 jazz song "King of Bongo Bong" by Black American trumpeter Roy Eldridge. DKTV was also a french TV show using the same tech that allow to bridge cartoon. They also have some "play" inbetween with a lot of that "second degré". Which is a very French humor. Basically, it is either absurd or black humor which aim to denounce a behavior. The first segment about the cartoon being filled with Racing humor but (-st instead of -ng for racing) was probably an attempt to attempt to denounce the mentality (by making fun of the intolerant or ignorant one), but being seen by the American as enforcing the mentality (by assuming we are meant to admire the problematic one). I wouldn't say the French one is good though. I tried to watch it. Yeah... let's say it was another time period.
We really need to get back to making classic Taijiri/Sugimori art style (both game/anime), dark underlying backstory, bright strobing, flashing lights and James crossdressing
Porygon had a huge impact on pokemon. Japanese kids thought the show was going to be cancelled, writers had to rewrite scripts for mewtwo life, backstory, and the anime. Pokemon anime and games got released in US shortly after to keep Pokemon company afloat. Truly crazy how Porygon made the Pokemon company think they had to stop production due to conversational publicity, and people just wanted more, and more, and more.
The strange thing about the pouring gun episode is according to Eric Stewart. He did a dub of the episode. However, I asked Veronica Taylor if she had done any dubbing for it and she said no.
The first time I discovered this show was way back when I was little. There was a day me and my brother were looking at the Redbox for movies and we found a DKC dvd. When I started to get older I remembered that moment of us watching it together and that’s when I found all episode on social media!❤
this one always wondered about this show. It remembers seeing only a couple episodes and never being able to find it, so it probbaly saw it on fox kids. Probably didn't even have Fox/ABC Family while DKC was running. Might sit down and marathon the show next time we have our girlfriend over
It's so wild to see and hear of a show that was never really on my radar here in the UK (Channel 4 wasn't on much growing up), and then to learn casually that British comedy legends Harry Enfield and Andy Hamilton were involved. Enfield probably most famous for his own sketch comedy show and Hamilton probably most famous for creating part ad-libbed sitcom Outnumbered, but to me he's always the creator and lead of Old Harry's Game as the voice of Satan
Random British viewpoint, Yvon of the Yukon was like a big deal on CBBC back in the day. I remember it being one of the featured shows on an animated block, or as part of a Saturday morning kids show as a break cartoon
I used to watch this most nights, but I always found it disappointing tbh. The only time I thought it ever lived up to its name (and consequently the only story I remember) was the cockroaches in the motel mattress. 😱 My mom also didn't like Maurice. and yes Weirdos crosses my mind every few years but this was the first time I've thought about Birdz in decades.
This video deserves a massive update now that we know that 4Kids' actors had a contract clause. You should definitely try and contact Norman J Grossfeld. He recently confirmed this on the 4Kids Flashback podcast.
I did mention contracts, but yeah, there's more to the story than what I had at the time. Grossfeld isn't someone anybody can just reach out too, though. No online presence from what I've seen.
