The color grading is way over the top. Does not look real and you have color bleeds into the blacks. It looked muddy. I would suggest that first, use a higher end codec so that it is not 8 bit footage (so many artifacts), shoot in RAW format and take some color grading classes so you can color grade correctly. Look up the video from the late Mark Toia (@DirectorMarkToia) on Vietnam to see what real Hollywood grading looks like. Watch color grading videos from @theqazman and @DarrenMostyn also. View it on a large screen. If it looks good on a large screen, then it is ready to be published.
The stars aligned today and the RU-vid algorithm brought me your video. Nice job! I really loved my week in Hanoi and can’t wait to return. I see that you really like to shoot wide open with your Tamron 70-180. I’m looking really hard at the Sony 70-200 f4 II. I would prefer internal focus, but…at half the price, weight, and how compact it is over the 70-200 f2.8 it really looks like a winner. My wife and I travel full time so my camera setup needs to be minimal. Currently I’m shooting with a Sony a6700 with the Sigma 18-55 f2.8 and think it’s a great combo, but I really miss having a longer tele. Have you had the opportunity to try out that lens? I like the effects of the shallow DOF of a 2.8, but find myself mostly shooting around f8 unless at night or really low light. Subscribed.
@@scottvaughn7824 thank you so much for watching! In the streets shooting people I feel like f2.8 is good. Allows for more speed, good subject separation and with subjects being not very close to me, it doesn't blur the background into oblivion either. When I'm shooting closer stuff or b-roll etc, I'll most often stop way down too though, like f5.6-8-11, otherwise you've got barely anything in focus and the background just disappears yeah. Regarding what model to get, I used to shoot with the 70-200 f2.8 gm, and that thing is like carrying a new born baby in your arms lol. It's massive and heavy. Might look cool and all, but it's not practical or comfortable in a run and gun scenario. I never had the f4 version, but I'm perfectly content with the Tamron 70-170 f2.8. it's small, about 800g so very comfortable to use, and the image quality is just stunning. Autofocus and reliability has been perfect for me too. The new version has buttons on it too making it easier to use (i still use the old version tho). It's also far cheaper than the Sony counterpart so for this particular lens (70-200 range), it would be my recommendation easily. The Sony versions have in lens stabilization though, if that's a big deal to you. Either way they're all great lenses so you can't go wrong!
Man that intro. You're getting better and better. Also damn sending the money to a stranger on WhatsApp. So risky haha But in the end it was all worth your hard work and not to mention how much you did for this video. Grading, footage and the addition of the narration and story telling. One of your best works yet Gabriel.
Thanks for mentioning the intro mate ! 😁 I'm definitely happy about that haha. And yeah, I was desperate to get on that plane 🤣 ilI tried a different approach this time with Dehancer and it made the overall grade easy abd the results pretty good I think. Thank you so much again for watching it 🙏
@@john.vanzijl enters 💁 the fusion tab 🤣 I took inspiration from a recent netflix movie's intro actually! Thought it was so cool and immediately thought about taking bits of it and apply it to this Socotra theme. Worked out so well haha
You absolutely outdid yourself with this one! The cinematography, editing, music, storytelling, everything fits so well together! I wish this was 20 minutes longer though 😛 haha
This is so amazing! I love how you present it from the beginning and the intro makes me feel like I’m watching a movies /also music are perfect in this video 💯 many stunning shots 🤩Such a beautiful landscape. Thank you for making very cool videos. 😍😍 Can’t wait for next adventure 😊
Mate you outdid yourself on this film! I greatly respect your work and am happy to see your development!!! The Landscape and your stunning footage of it! amazing brother! I'm also glad you found someone to share the adventure with you! love from Germany mate :)
so many incredible shots! I cannot believe you only got 1xk subscribers rn. Please keep going and I am sure people will see you creations. Love your POV photo taking series!
Thanks a lot for watching and for your kind words! I guess these videos require too much time for me to produce them fast enough to stand a chance in an algorithm 😬 I'll keep making them at my pace though! Thanks a lot!
Absolutely mesmerizing! This cinematic journey through Hong Kong is a visual feast for the senses. From the bustling streets to the serene landscapes, every frame is a work of art. The attention to detail and the skillful photography truly capture the essence of this vibrant city. It's like taking a poetic journey through the heart of Hong Kong. Thanks friend for sharing this breathtaking experience with us! Big Like! We join your channel 👍
Thank you so much for watching! Very glad you enjoyed it. Everything was edited in DaVinci Resolve studio. I simply overlay the before and after photos in the timeline > keyframe the top one to appear laterally using the "crop right" tool (or left, whichever you like 🙂).
Thanks for watching! For photos at nighttime like this, I'll often set the ISO to 500 or 1000 depending on the needs, so that I don't have to think about it again after and can almost always have a decent shutter speed on A mode. If I see the shutter drop too low, I may adjust sometimes for some particular scenes. For video, how ever high I'll need. Some clips might be 20,000 or something. I'll shoot and if it's not usable then I won't use it. But this is RU-vid so technically we can use anything 🙂
Thank you very much for your kind comment! Short answer: I guess often around 0. My 2 cents regarding the exposure compensation tool: it's a tool to help you gauge how you should expose for a scene. It'll display different values for the same scene depending on what metering method you set it to, so I wouldn't be able to recommend an "average/safe for most" value. Perhaps the most useful answer I can give you is: I used to set it at -1 (as many people I believe) because it'll "protect your highlights and you can raise the shadows in post". Probably because you can read that everywhere online and many photo gurus say to do that, so when I started I probably just followed... I definitely don't do that now. My exposure compensation will be at whatever it lands at when the exposure seems to be adequate for my subject and the final rendition I have in mind (or at least I'm trying to) so sometimes it could be -2 or +0.7. I just want the best possible exposure for my subject.
@@GabrielAndre Thanks a lot, Gabriel! It makes sense. I'm new to photography and bought my first camera (Sony a6700 with Sigma 18-50mm f2.8). And, I generally try to keep it -0.3 or 0 for now. Still trying to understand how to best expose for the subject. I mostly enjoy landscape, but I went to Vietnam last week so wanted to try out street photography too. I searched and came across your video. Very much enjoyed your content. Keep posting, and if possible, do share some tutorials on how to get good photos. Thanks again! Have a great week ahead.
Amazing!! It made me want to pack my backpack and fly to Hong Kong to explore with my camera. I just missed a little bit of you in the video. Great job bro, keep it up! Cheers!
I can see why you took your time for this video! It's inspiring and feels like watching a trailer for a movie! I like the style of the shots and the editing! Props Mate! :)
Thanks a ton mate! 🙏 Really glad you enjoyed it 😎 Couldn't come up with inspiration while trying to edit it for some time, because I shot without a clear idea in mind, but I'm not unhappy with how it turned out in the end!
Amazing photos and video! I love how you ask permission to take photos. I’m in Hanoi right now to take photos and I will make sure to do the same as you! Thank you 😊
Amazing video man. Going there in two weeks. I heard air pollution is terrible though. By the way few questions: 1-Do you use a GoPro with a PD Capture Clip? 2-Did you use ND filter for the b-roll videos or no need for an ND? 3-I have Sony A7RV and A7IV, was thinking of bringing my 24-105 f4 for street photography. Do you think 105 is enough?
Hi man, big thanks for watching and for your comment! 1- I use a GoPro loosely attached to one of the shoulder straps of my backpack with a GoPro mount that's not made for that at all 😅 in other words, whatever will keep the GoPro in place on my bag works for me. 2- I used a vnd filter for all the b-roll yes. Not way around it in my opinion. 3- I think you can make a killer video with a 24-105mm for sure. For photos I think a 70-200 ish is always nice... but lugging one lens instead of two around will be less draining too. My bag was killing me the whole two weeks there lol. Hope you'll have the best time in Vietnam and best wishes for 2024!
Thanks a lot man! Btw subscribed to your channel. You deserve so much more followers 😊 I am also just starting out my channel eventhough I had it for years. Anyways, you are right regarding the weight. I recently went to Namibia and South Africa and I was carrying multiple mirrorless bodies and lenses, my backpack was 20kg. But it was well worth it, got multiple timelapses at night and currently editing those, will share in the next few days. I am actually going to Vietnam for business purposes so I will take it light this time. 24-105 with A7RV should be good to go. Actually I can crop in the 105 and make it look like 200mm with the RV sensor. Thanks for the tips! @@GabrielAndre
@@CanInelli thanks man! I appreciate your kind words! I will definitely take a look at those videos of yours too! Namibia and SA sounds like a dream trip 💯 I agree on the 7RV + crop ability combo. In your shoes, I would probably do that too at this time.
Such amazing shots with the gimbal. You really nailed the power of colour grading in the intro Gabriel. I loved the streets in this video just by looking at the pov scenes. Especially the shot at 5:30 I'll definitely have to make my way to South Korea when I can
Thanks for giving it a watch dude 😎 One last power of colour grading for 2023 🤣 I 100% recommend Seoul for a change from Japan. Definitely refreshing and worth it 💯
