This RU-vid channel documents the music ministry of Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Columbia, South Carolina USA under the direction of Organist and Choirmaster Mark Husey from Lent 2009 through his departure for Los Angeles in 2016, prior to its elevation to a minor basilica in 2018. Featured are many congregational hymns, choral and congregational settings of the Ordinary of the Mass, devotional anthems and motets as well as excerpts of major choral works including Monteverdi's "Vespers of 1610" and J. S. Bach's "Mass in B Minor." These recordings give witness to the love and glory of God and offer a slice of parish life in a uniquely American/Southern university community with exceptionally generous provisions of time, talent, and treasure.
What is the choral collection from which this is sung? We are doing this at Holy Angels in St. Thomas, Ontario today for Michaelmas in the Latin Mass and on our Patronal feast!
I really love this Anthem, sung at the ordination of Priests or on Whit Sunday, the day Anglican s celebrate the birthday of the church,an the gift of the Holy spirit
Lovely. Did you know that Marcello originally wrote the psalm for two tenors? That’s right - TWO TENORS! The original work is titled Salmo XVI, Tu che sai quanto sia giusta, S.616. In the modern transcript of the work by Damian H. Zanette (via IMSLP), Section A in Vincent Novello’s adaptation correlates to measures 26-72, and Section B correlates to measures 197-208. (Novello added the instrumental intro.)
Big shoutout to RobertJTh of TalkClassical for helping me pinpoint the actual psalm, although no recording or video of the actual rendition (with the aforementioned two tenors) exists. Hoping for a period instrument performance of Salmo XVI, Tu che sai quanto sia giusta, S.616, with TWO TENORS and basso continuo on YT or Presto Music in the near future! 😉
Absolutely love our friend at the front of the video- I love that feeling in loft life of "Yes. Yes. That was EPIC. For the Lord" Beautiful music, thank you for sharing!!
I saved this video on RU-vid to a playlist years ago. Helped me through a hard time. Now, New Year’s Day 2024, my father passed away unexpectedly, hit really hard. And this song still brings so much peace and happiness once again. Thank you.
My grandpa died not too long ago this year. And this was what was played in the church I was at a day or 2 before he was buried in a cemetery because after church then we had his wake and then he was buried in a cemetery. I love you grandpa. I would swap places with you in a heartbeat. I was his one and only grandson. He got very very weak and died of cancer in his body. It made him very weak to the point he couldn’t walk no more let alone be able to function like a normal person. I felt like such a shitty person because I couldn’t say goodbye to him in the hospital before he died because I couldn’t see him like that it would have broken me entirely more than it did in his passing. I love you grandpa I hope to see you up in heaven when I get there.
