Fantastic review. I have bought and played this and was astounded by how good it was a homage to the world of vampires and horror perfectly done as an incredible Heroquest expansion kit I cannot wait to see more from Hon 👏🙏
@DecrepitGaming you're welcome, it was nice to find the video. I picked up some 3rd party stuff in Extra Quest a while back, but that was designed for the old style game, I need to pick up come bits like this for the new version :)
Happy days on the table in your garage now you have to assemble terrain lol that’s another project for you. I have the next two weeks flat out in work then back to the channel. I still have Tomb kings models to paint as well as Orc stuff to finish those series of videos before I move on to other armies.
Lookong forward to seeing the rest of the TK and O&G videos. Would love to see you do one of your rambling videos about the latest news and releases of Dwarfs and Chaos Warriors 😂. I got a neoprene mat coming from flames of war which is grass one side and desert the other, and got a couple things from etsy on the way for the terrain pieces.@DecrepitGaming
@@DragonHeart1791 Yes much rambling to come lol when I have some time. Thanks for continuing to support the channel even though it's been quiet recently. Real life sucks
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. In the end I went with Tyrion navy. To be honest I would have been happy with any of the colours tested.
Been watching several videos now and it's so satisfying watching the models get finished quick and with such a nice result. You put joy back to painting for me. I only have to finish some models using the style I doing now for consistency, but will change to this way ASAP. Many of my ideas for armies are now doable, since I never play with unpainted models (brings bad luck). Question: When would you change the base shade to a different colour? Seen you have used a brown wash instead of a black when painting brown wolves. Would you say a blue wash would be better when painting for examlpe Blue Horros using this technique? Thx again! This has made so me excited again about painting! :)
The beauty of speed paints is they are so thin but cover so well you can do a lot of experimenting and just cover it back over with white, without loss of detail. I would tell you to use what I show as a guide and to change what you see fit. Thank you again for taking the time to leave me a comment
@@DecrepitGaming Thx for the reply! I been window shoping for paints now and watched a few other videos of using contrasts. It seems GW has some versions that are more covering than others, with no shading effect. So I guess that is something to look out for?
Got this the other week, it will be some time before I play it but I had it as a kid and there is just so nostalgia with it. I wish some of the skeleton knights in armour on the box were actual characters.
@@DecrepitGaming Np:) I never had a good covering with white primer compared to black, even when I spray two models at the same time for comparison.^^' I maybe do something wrong. Gonna aply your technique on my next army. :)
I ordered this recently and I am very impressed with the prestation and like them. It would be a good opportunity for AH to re-release exclusive figures that some of us missed. I hope they do more of these, maybe with an evil Assassin who follows the players around or something. I agree about painting. I just want to get painted and up and read, I won't be entering any painting competitions!
I had the original HeroQuest and all the expansion that I could get in the UK. Left the hobby when I got a Sega Megadrive in 1991ish and its only the New HeroQuest that's brought me back after 33 years. For Kellers Keep I like how 3D Minis have created models to replace the boring tiles (the forge and the hands).
I never even noticed that 3d minis were creating tiles. Thanks for that I must take a look. Much like you sega and other things came along although I always kept one foot in miniatures of some variety over the years. I was thrilled to see hasbro/avalon hill re release the game and all the expansions are great, they add so much and keep folks going back to the game. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment
@@DecrepitGaming My pleasure, yes the 3D minis really do offer some interesting add on's for all the expansions (they also have a website, which breaks it down a bit better). Yes I had gotten HeroQuest, Advanced HeroQuest and was getting into Warhammer Fantasy, then along came Sega and I lost all interest. I think there is a huge element of nostalgia with HeroQuest and I was saying even 15-20 years ago I wish they would bring it back. I actually purchased something from Games Workshop yesterday, the first time in over 30 years! It's actually nice just owning something in a box again, it feels like years since I have had anything like it as mostly boxes just get thrown out!
The heads for the snakes I'm haivng a hard time figuring out where they attach to, is it just that divot at the top of the spine and then you glue their skulls into it?
Yes, at the top of the snake the cape flares out there is a flat section that you glue the back of the head onto. If you look at some pictures you will wee there is only really one place for the heads to go. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. If your online on my next live stream I will explain more clearly, but i'm sure you will have them glued by then.
for what they charge for this box they could make it a full starter kit with tomb kings being one of the icon armies for this and give us the arcane journal as well. in fact i would rather an arcane journal for the army over the core rule book in the box. because either way i need to buy an extra book and with boxes this large i would rather the army book be included and i need to buy the core rules seperate. as they are using 2 boxes to do the job of one starter box. but seeing this its looking like a mega pass, skeleton robots is enough undead army for me lol, the only undead in old world i would consider is vampire counts, but they havent released their new rules yet outside of a comprehensive book and i always have waryness buying those as i never use them. so looks like dwarfs for me. plus dwarfs seem to have a lot of old metal and i like me my metal sculpts...maybe its being american and playing with metal things lmfao.
I totally get the love of metal miniatures. I feel the same.. I do however like the plastic skeletons and I always have. Tomb kings would not have been my first choice but I couldn’t do bretonians, I feel nothing for them. One trick pony. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment
@@DecrepitGaming I started late in 40k 5th edition and metal minis were being phased out. Finecast was just meh. I’m frustrated I need to rebuy several blood angels minis that are now plastic lol. But yes the feel of metal minis was just so nice. I agree the plastics can look better and are easier to put together but even tho I didn’t grow up with the metal ones, I have an unusual fondness for them.
Great video! I picked Blood Quest up at Xmas and I was absolutely blown away by it! The crafting of the cards, tuck box and booklet are on par with the official expansions and my group thoroughly enjoyed playing through it. I'd say they would agree, Blood Quest is probably the most enjoyable Quest pack we ever played through. Is there a prequel on the way with it being Act 4?
Plenty of room in the story for a prequel or a sequel. I think acts 1 -3 were the different settings. Hon is contactable through facebook (see description) he can tell you a lot more than I can. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment
I try to paint different stuff in my live streams. I will have a HeroQuest miniature live stream soon. That will show painting in real time and just how long it takes. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment
I'm delighted with the brilliant review buddy, glad you are a fan of 🩸Blood Quest🩸! Don't forget you need to nip down to Tescos and pick up a lot of garlic for your doors and windows!🧛
Excellent work Hon. More than happy to review well thought out and excellently produced products like Blood Quest. Hopefully I can bring it to a few new folks.
@DecrepitGaming no worries and will do, the wife and kids gonna get me the spearhead boxset of night goblins from aos for Christmas, so that will be fun 2 paint up
Subbed!!! Right do i have to use nuln oil? I only have army painter so will dark tone do the same or will i have 2 thin it down wiv a medium? Iv got the skull pass boxset from when i was a kid n only primed the goblins black, gonna strip them n prime them white n use this version of the slapchop method:)
Use the strong tone, just remember to wait until it’s fully dry then heavy dry brush of white. Then start your colour scheme. Have fun achieving results:)
Thanks for this. I've been searching for days on RU-vid for a video to show the efficacy of speedpaint on these figures. I think if I do tomb kings I would make the bones more white to help keep them distinct from the gold on the armor and chariots. Also because if you were a skeleton roaming the deserts of Khemri for hundreds of years you would be bleached white!
You are of course correct. You could easily put a lot more time and effort into painting even skeletons. However I am satisfied with the results of just using speed paint. Thank you for taking the time to leave me a comment
I'll just use speedpaint as well, but I'm curious to try putting Holy White on the bones instead of Pallid Bone. Unless that ends up looking too white...
Thank you so much for the kind words. My whole intention when I started the channel was to try and encourage folks into the painting part of the hobby. I hope you enjoy bringing your game to life :)
@@DecrepitGaming Brother MANY Blessings on your Soul! We will bring SONG BACK! Otherwise we need to play it via... I don't know what.... Man Juicy Armies! Make 2 Videos. One Showing your Free Folk, the Other the Lannisters! (That Beautifull SCUM^^)
I used to enjoy painting miniatures in the "traditional way" when I would buy one miniature at a time. Now that all of my miniatures come included in board games I just don't have the time or the inclination to give each miniature the attention to detail that acrylics require, enter army painter speed paints. They have been a huge boon in speeding up my painting and still providing me with a finish that looks good on the table.
They really are a game changer. Credit to games workshop for coming out with contrast paints, and all the other companies for producing alternatives. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment
I can point you to the wyvern that I have already painted. They will all be done in the same manner. The nice thing about the gw wyvern is the fact you can paint the rider separately. I may paint an official model in the future if I bother to acquire one. Do not be intimidated by the model you have though
I don't necessarily mind the splotching effect when using speed paints because everything in real life looks splotchy. Skin , clothing etc....everything fades different ways in different areas. Great job 👍.
I dont see the Nuln wash as a waste, it definitely helps to visually identify sections of the model for ease of painting even aside from the actual pre shading element. Also I think it makes a very good white, if we look at 6:26 the bows and shoulder ruff could easily just be left as white instead of trying to paint and shade a white.
Indeed there are reasons to use the nuln oil if only to aid in visually seeing what your painting. You are also correct that with a little bit of forward planing there are areas of some models that you could avoid altogether with the wash. However I am all about getting stuff done on this channel so I rush through things. I do encourage folks with more time to amend my work as they see fit. There is no right or wrong way of painting if the final result makes you happy.
It's an old metal miniature I have had for many (too many) years. I still have a heck of a lot of old 3rd/4th edition models as well as newer metals. Most of it is in storage, I shall slowly work my way through it. This guy was a must though, the greenskins need the backup :)
I would say about three hours of actual painting time. Spread over a couple of days. I’m lucky to be able to leave stuff without concern of it being moved or handled.
You know what, I'm interested: if you could make once a video where you don't wash with the nuln oil at the beginning vs when you do - compare the final effect. Like having 2 same mini models which are not so important to you that you could do the comparison. I'd be interested to see the results of both. As in: just white primer and straight away speed paints, compared to your usual process: white primer, nunl oil, white drybrush and then speed paints.
Some folks are traditionalists, which is fine by the way. I have spent my wargaming hobby life looking for painting shortcuts as I can’t stand playing with unpainted armies. Don’t get me wrong I have many times in the past but I always felt it was wrong and lazy of me. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment
