Hi, welcome to The Wild Gut Project. This channel started as a personal project to share my experience of the Low FODMAP diet to manage IBS while vegan, and has grown from there, with a mission to help people with gut health issues who also want to eat more vegan or plant-based 💚
I even went back to university to study to become an HCPC Registered Dietitian, as well as 200hr Yoga teacher training, to be more useful 👩🏼🎓
Expect recipes, nutrition and health information, gut-calming yoga and breathing practices and the occasional vlog, with the goal to support your gut health.
How are you with beans now? I’m on a venture into vegetarianism and have followed a lowfodmap diet before, ( whilst still eating meat. I discovered onions are one of my worst IBS triggers, as well as dairy.) I want to eat more beans, but because of chronic Ibs I am scared. I was wondering if you have experimented with beans, and have discovered you can eat them more with time?
Great question! I've experienced a huge amount of improvement with both beans and onion. It's been several years but by slowly increasing portions I feel like I've rebuilt my tolerance. You could focus on legume which are easier to digest like canned butter beans, chickpeas and red lentils to start
I have followed the diet and it helps so much! I’m so thankful for the good information that is available- once upon a time, one just continued to suffer or have high medical bills.
Hi Sandra, I'm so sorry to hear you are suffering so much with IBS. Definitely speak to your Dr first. I personally got better with a low FODMAP diet, managing stress, and then slowly diversified my did. I think this video is probably the best summary of the long term things I did ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZH0D6scSh_E.html Hope it's helpful and you feel better soon x
Thanks 🙏 great info. I have a question if anybody can help. I have IBD but tested negative for a gluten Intolerance. Does this mean I can eat gluten or not?? Or do I just test myself by eating and seeing how I feel? I just got diagnosed last week, dr thinks its Crohn’s, I really upped my veg intake since the doc told me and all my symptoms have improved, carrots, spinach mostly and some turnip yesterday, trying courgette tomorrow 😮 wild I know …..
Don’t know if there are low fodmap foods that are higher in protein, but would love to see you include more protein because with those meals you won’t meet your protein needs for the day :(
Hi, since I made this video I have trained and qualified as a Registered Dietitian. The protein content would definitely meet my personal requirements. I made another video where I tracked it here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B0l00ENKpwE.htmlsi=rZOQ6i5-bqCPK9gm Also consider that daily requirements are not truly daily requirements, but an average you meet over several days.
I’m making a starter now and really am enjoying your sourdough videos here. Sending you all the love, feels like you are an old familiar friend. Have been following since 2017 or when I did the elimination diet. Thanks girl! 😘 namaste
Audible has FODMAP DIET books..listen whilst preparing your foods.. Keep a daily record, AM & PM RECORD YOUR MEALS.. WHEN YOU HAVE A MOTION ..hard soft watery.. how long in between you evacuate.. do this for 6 months.. the you will see the food culprits.. being a diabetic T2 is all about sugars.. Fructans in Wheat is difficult to digest.. check SIBO test, if you have had a gut infection. which can induce IBS. Suffering low gut pain, take a warm bath will relieve, go to bed and rest..
Ive just watched this and couldnt help but cry. I was exactly EXACTLY the same. Exams. Tonsilitis Stomach. I got to a point where i was having tonsilitis 5 times a year leading to hospitalisation. Ive jad them out and still get it. I literally had it again between the 5th and 12th of January this year. Was nil by mouth because I couldn't swallow. Was given eurythromycin and it helped. Then literally as soon as i could eat again BAM IBS flare up for 10 days. During the week off food, my skin cleared, my stomach went from looking 4 month pregnant to really going down in size. Doctors tell me its stress and it makes me want to scream. So many nights ive near passed out from pain... And FINALLY I know there is someone who has the same experience. You dont know what this video has meant to me. Sincerely, thank you - From Yorkshire, England
Oh Hannah, I'm so sorry to hear you've been through the same thing. Expecially that you are ssyill getting tonsillitis after having a tonsillectomy ☹️. I hope my later videos give you hope because my IBS so much better now. Also, if you get tonsillitis again, explicitly explain your history with antibiotics and check they've done a antibiotic sensitivity test on the infection, in case you can have a gentler one!
According to Monash university, who developed the diet, 140ml of oat milk is low FODMAP, so per portion in the recipe it is low FODMAP. I'd strongly recommend using their app or working with a dietitian, because portion sizes are really important... Otherwise you'll end up excluding foods for no reason!
The Monash University LOWFOD MAPS App was a life saver. For USA IBS individuals, buy the app it will change your life. Also I found buying a bulllet blender (never a juicer you need the fiber!) and freezing my dark left greens is the easiest was to get in my vitamins. Bullet Blender Green Shake: 16 oz water, 2cups of frozen mixed dark left greens (swiss card kale collard greens and spinach), 1/2 to 1 frozen banana, 1 cup blueberries, lees than 1 tablespoon of pumpkin seeds (you don’t want to taste the seeds just the sweetness of the banana, sometimes I sprinkle <1 tablespoon of hemp seeds sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds) . Dr Mindy Pelz explains eating according to the follicular phase vs luteal phase, I’m not into fasting but it was insightful to look at the menstrual cycle the way she explained it. For younger than 30 check out her other book “Fast Like a girl.” For 30< older, yes, 30! read menopause reset. Men you read both books to understand their teenage age daughters and adult female coworkers/peers.
I have now watched all the videos on your channel. 😁The videos have helped me a lot. Thank you very much. 💚 But I still have a question about bread. The Monash app says that spelt sourdough bread is low fodmap (2 slices). But we don't have any here, only a wheat sourdough bread, which has risen for a very long time (48 hours). Is that also ok? 🤔
I switched to plant based diet. I took a blood test and I was slightly anemic. So, I made an effort to have 6 cups of dark leafy greens a day using a bullet blender: 2 cups frozen dark leafy greens (swiss chard kale collard greens), frozen 1/2 firm banana, frozen 1 cup blue berries, 1/2 frozen pineapple, 5 pumpkin seeds or few sunflower seeds (you don’t want to taste the seeds in the drink, they are “hidden”). My iron did increase
thanks for the video! you are the first one to actually get to the point with concrete stuff and not all those other videos going through biochemical mechanisms....
@@Jen-yx5mz I recommend reading about fructose and fat storage. Worked me at least to eat fruit that is less ripe and overall has less fructose to glucose content
Thank you very much for the clarification. 😊 So seitan would also be suitable for low fodmap? Especially for us vegans, it would be an additional great source of protein. Thank you for your great videos and your Meal Maker guide. They have helped me so much! 🫂
I discovered your channel a few days ago and now I only watch all your videos. ☺ What a great and lovely channel, thank you so much. I will start my low fodmap diet at the beginning of next year, it would be a pain at Christmas 😄
I love all these recipes, as a women with Pcos it is recommended I eat a lot of protein. I see here protein isn’t a big part of your diet. What do you recommend? I feel like plant based meats aren’t great for you and that’s what I often do.
Hiya, since this video I have qualified as a Registered Dietitian. Your protein requirements would never be more than 1.0-1.5g per kg of body weight and the focus of diet changes for PCOS should be about fibre and managing blood sugar, for which a plant based diet would be excellent. This is an example of a low FODMAP elimination diet which is a short term therapeutic diet for IBS. Hope this helpful, Carrie x
I've had IBS for the past 2 years. Terrible thing to have. I've been going back and forth with pine nut cold press oil and using black seed cold press oil. It's helping me get it under control.
I have tried vegan for so many years .. I have IBS D and fiber gives me terrible diarrhea 😢 . But I keep trying anyway . But I can’t always stick to it to a T.😢
I need this information so badly, but I can’t understand what you are saying. You speak really fast and with your accent, it’s impossible. Anyone else having this problem?
