Thanks so so much for sharing Tilly. It is so so SO inspiring and whilst I will never be anywhere near a pro, I'd love to strive to have more work/life/training balance and feel happy and healthy. I struggle with balancing full-time work and training for triathlon and find this video to be so inspiring. I need to make the time and make choices that support my goals of being a triathlete whilst also being a young professional. Any tips you'd be willing to share would be amazing.

Hi Amy! Triathlon must be so hard..3 sports 😵but you're spot on with the choices thing.. my main angle in a full-time scenario would be around habit and routine to establish the consistency and energy needed to manage training amongst it all. Easier said than done, but a little choice with a critical impact is bed time! (I'm talking as early as possible/necessary!) and that often means saying no to events/commitments or whatever vice you lean into in the evenings...doom scrolling, TV, food, socialising - whatever it might be that keeps you from being in bed early enough for the wake up with full min. 8 hours behind you to get you through the hard work ahead. When I was a marathoner working full-time and starting work at 7am, I would literally go to sleep at 6pm some nights (it was QLD though) and be up at 3am to fit in my 35km run before work. It wasn't a perfect life- I was pretty tired! and you definitely need space when possible to fill your cup/have some RnR. That's why 3-4 days of work creates a MUCH better balance, and I'd definitely recommend negotiating hours with work if that's possible...or even looking for employment that offers a more flexible/part-time arrangement. I started with my current company full-time but they were willing to respect my goals, recognising my worth and finding an arrangement that enabled me to bring my 100% to work everyday benefited everyone! I could go on but maybe I'll save it for another video :) wishing you all the motivation 🙏

That's so wonderful that your employer pays for counseling. Therapy is for everyone and I think it's an undervalued part of healthcare, especially when we're constantly battling stigmas around self-care, self-love, and seeking help. Thanks for sharing.

Wow,, nice work... Was watching your efforts and food intake and was curious are you eating enough dense high protein and carbs? Those efforts are serious and it seems like you should be eating more. Not trying to be judgmental but I have seen too many cyclists starve themselves to be light for climbing and "Bonk" during long races and sprints. Movistar has a huge staff should be sending you training and (Miguel and Jose) nutrition guidelines. Good luck during the rest of your season. Cant wait to see your future racing accomplishments. The videos are great and I hope your channel grows...

@tillyonabike 18 дней назад
Hi! Thank you for the genuine interest and advice. I don't track my food but eat pretty consistently and it seems to meet all nutritional requirements last I made the effort to check.. I eat a ton of carbs but probably not enough protetin if anything? A can of tuna a day. Sometimes an egg. A protein shake after riding. There is no doubt room for improvement so thanks for the reminder to check in on diet! My weight is I think very consistent (between 60.9-62.9) but I'd like to be light when going into a goal race (59kg) and that number is based on my body fat at 61kg being 21%...I never seem to manage this though... probably eat too much rice and chips haha.

I recommend a rice cooker. I avoided them for ages, and you can live without one, but they make things so much easier. Just put everything in it, turn it on, and it will cook with no attention needed and then keep the rice warm for you once it's cooked. You can do everything else you need while it's looking after itself.

They just changed the race score settings. So look for races that use the number system as opposed to letter categories. The sandbaggers are getting moved up so they can't win every race now. If your staying 3rd or 4th wheel the whole race thats about as efficient as you can get. Don't punch through and dont yoyo near the back. Your probably never gonna win a sprint finish cause your raw power isn't high enough compared to the larger men. The routes with longer climbs will suit you better especially if they finish at the top.

Flat courses, more Watts is faster than W/kg. That's why big riders can get drop lighter riders for the same W/kg. You should get Play controllers to allowing steering to get into draft quickly and steer on the inside of bends. You may want to use Sauce for Zwift to get more information of other riders and elevation profile , making race tactics easier

I’m not sure how Zwift works exactly, but only a few short months ago I was cat D did two races 12th & 23rd, then I got put up to cat C did two races 2nd & 12th, a month ago they put me up to cat b I haven’t raced in cat b yet but I’m the first to admit I’m not anywhere near a cat B rider as of yet

How do you know the w/kg is accurate anyway? or that someone isn't cheating by other methods.
@tillyonabike
@tillyonabike Месяц назад
What I’m questioning is more, we all did the race in the same amount of time and I draft like a mofo so why is mine always higher 🤔 apparently a light weight thing 🤷
@Kivharo
@Kivharo Месяц назад
Your watts aren’t higher. Your W/KG is. Gravity is not playing a role on a flat course. So the pure numbers (watts) are watts to move forward. I do 320 watts to move forward @90kegs it’s 3.5 w/kg. You do 260 watts on my wheel at 65kgs it’s 4.0 w/kg - Same speed. The inverse is true uphill when the weight matters, you climb at 4.0 w/kg, and I follow at 4.0 w/kg, I have to do 360 watts.

Great race, mate. As we all know, hindsight is 20/20. The category system does need fixing for sure. I read on zwiftinsider that a new system will be tested over the next month or so. Basically it'll be a results based system, and split over 5 categories instead of the 4 A B C D categories. I joined the test club on zwift and had a look at the riders in the category I'm placed in. There is a healthy mix of C and B cat riders, indicating to me that they would be high C/ low B riders, as I was recently winning all my C cat races, and then was upgraded to B cat. So I think the balance is a bit fairer in this new system they're testing.
@tillyonabike
@tillyonabike Месяц назад
Interesting!! Sounds like it could be better. Tricky to make results based work too though… wonder how they’ll work it 🤔

I always knew world tour riders were strong but it's amazing to see your stats in "real time" during a race like that. (Especially as one who's tried that hill a few times and can compare my weak performance directly!) Fwiw - too many times Zwift videos focus on the rider sweating on their trainer pulling faces and such (GCN!) instead of showing the actual race being ridden. It's maddening so I really appreciate the candor and openness of this style!
