My name is Sharayah Maurice and I’m just a regular mom like you who became a #homeschoolmom. I used to get nervous about the idea of homeschooling my kids until one day I realized it wasn’t as hard as I made it seem in my mind.
I’m here to show you just how simple homeschooling can be. It isn’t picture perfect or Pinterest worthy work, but it is the most rewarding, fulfilling and oftentimes messy, work you will ever take part in.
I would love for you to follow along with our simplified homeschool life by tapping that subscribe button!
I'm still slightly confused on when we move the scripture back. Like if I have days 1-31. Do I just place it randomly in a day? When do I do this? & when I've memorized the scripture, do I chose to place it in even or odd?
@@aivela7e you move each card back one slot after you’ve memorized your new verse. Then when you get to day 31, you should have a card for each day. The next scripture you memorize will go into day 1, the next in day 2, so on (then you’ll have two cards in day 1, 2 etc) just move every card back once after you’ve memorized the new verse. Hope that helps!

@@Anna-pm8td it’s from around 9 to 12 for all Ages then usually the older kids have classes after that but I can’t say for sure how long they last. It also depends on you local community and how they do it.
Community is the only reason I am even looking at it. I'm just blown away with the costs, just starting with the application fees alone. We just recently went to see what it was about, and really enjoyed it. But the lady over it told me, I would have to pay an application fee of 145.00, 4 times. I have 3 girls, and she told me my youngest would be in foundations and essentials, thats why. Im just kind of overwhelmed by that alone. That's 580.00 just for the application fee.
Thank you. I plan an amalgam of CC + Sonya Schaffer (simply Charlotte Mason) + Montessori. So skipping the cc community is best for my family and gives me more freedom.
Thank you so much for this video! It was so helpful. I did have a question about the digital books. How do you add books to your Kindle? For example, An Island Story is on the Internet Archive and Many Books for free. How do I get that to my Kindle? Do I download and upload or is there an easier way?
I believe they were from learning resources but I don’t know for sure and we actually don’t have those cards anymore. (Water accident ruined them) So I can’t double check for you but I want to say learning resources
I'm planning to use Ambleside but Im intimidated- I'm just so confused on how they're learning through the books, is it sticking, how does a day with ambleside work, so many questions lol. I requested to join the group and forum so hopefully I can find information.
Yes, it can be confusing to start. Those groups and forums should answer a lot of your questions. Narration is key to knowing if what they’re learning through the books is sticking. Having them repeat back to you what they’re reading/hearing helps them to assimilate that information. Remember that you don’t have to do it all to start. The curriculum as a whole can be very intimidating. I’d suggest just picking up a few subjects that are most important to you to start and see how it goes. Then slowly add more subjects as you get used to the curriculum. You got this!!
New sub here. We love the timeline song, the history, and the skip counting. We are taking a break from the community especially since we’re moving but I had tutored for many years. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and would love to be friends and connect here! Fun to find likeminded mommas.
I love “do the next thing” 😊 Though I have to say that my initial reaction to “trust that everything will work out” attitude in homeschool is a negative one: as a second generation homeschooler I often wish there had been more consistency in my own home education experience. But of course that doesn’t mean you have to do everything in every season :)
That's so true! We still have our daily routines which don't generally change. THe things we do within those routines do change year to year, season to season and day to day.
When it’s hard we skip CC and we’ve started sequence 1!!! I take what works for us and leave the rest!!! We just do the memory work for CC!!! We love the timeline and the math and science memory work and add the rest in if we get to it!!! My motto is to do the next thing unless I find a replacement!!! I didn’t think we would love the classical method but I think it’s awesome!!! When I was a pre school teacher I found out that sometimes I may not see what they understand till I hear it!!! I’m doing the history memory work if CC and sequence one with all my kids and my teenager starts conversations of what we need to learn and I love it!!!
I just found you on pinterest and I love all your stuff! We are new to homeschooling. (Started after Thanksgiving 22) We also reuse construction paper, especially with my 2 yr old. I sometimes give him a paintbrush with water on construction paper if I don't want a mess 😂
Thank you for this! I like the idea of adding the check boxes to the schedule for the daily work! I have played around with so many different planner types but always customized the weekly schedule printed the weekly schedule too. Every year I find myself checking off the main subjects each week but it was lacking the dailies. Why didn’t I think of that!? 😂
I loved watching your video!! I hardly ever comment on videos but I think you would benefit from my recent “AH-ha!” Moment! So Charlotte Mason is indeed Classical- the way she has you reading books and narrating them back is in fact classical without the label lol. The two philosophies actually aren’t that different at all- in fact they mesh beautifully together! CCs Philosophy in a few words is “to know God and make him known” basically finding God in all of our subjects! If we start there we will be falling into CCs core values “Grace, humility, integrity, diligence and excellence” Classical Conversations core values are very similar to Charlotte Masons they are just using different terms! Charlotte Mason isn’t saying “Naming, attending, memorizing, expressing and storytelling” however that is exactly what she is doing and that is what CC is doing! We just get together to recite the memory work since that tends to be the hardest part in learning! Hope this helps!
Absolutely! I’ve heard it stated from many that CC and CM mesh perfectly and that totally makes sense! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! I really appreciate your support and encouragement!
I don’t get the even and odd index. 😢please i want to learn more how it is done. For example i’d memorize the verse daily how will I categorized it if it is odd or even?
I wrote a blog post that might help explain it better. You can review that here: sharayahmaurice.com/how-to-memorize-scripture/ Basically once it moves out of daily after you’ve fully memorized it, you move it back to whichever tab comes first, even or odd. Then you’ll have replaced your daily tab with a new scripture. Once you e memorized that, you move both scriptures back so you’ll have a new one in the daily tab, and one scripture in the even and one in the odd. Hope that makes sense!
Okay, so it looks like the blog that I got it from is no longer active. I found the original pdf I downloaded from her website though and uploaded it on my website for you. Just sign up with your email and you’ll get access to the download: sharayahmaurice.com/member-vault/
