What's up Archons? I'm Flightless Pheasant and I love talking about the lore and story of my favorite card game Keyforge! If you haven't played it, you should! You can use the link below to check out their website and get started forging keys today! See you all on the battlefields of the Crucible. Later Archons.
Thanks for the update! My LGS doesn't do keyforge events anymore but I'd be willing to travel for a pre-release. Does anyone know if there's a list of home bases or LGS's that will have prerelease events? Also, have they said of Tokens of Change will get a pre-release event?
4:12 Archon: "I'm so close to opening this vault! For the last key, I need to imbue it with... screams of agony and... a heart filled with joy?? How and where am I going to quickly find two such drastically different emo-" Dis Demon: *yo* The artwork for Library of the Damned came to mind during that part in your video. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Once again, thanks for the lore! Your video reminded me of the fan concept I thought of for when keyforge does a set wherein key colors mattered. I was thinking of what if there were other key colors besides blue, red, and yellow (gold). What if there are orange, green, purple, and grey (silver) keys? Similar to the colors of the archons in the card backs and you can either bring which of the selection you want or the archon card might indicate what you need to bring. But implementing it might be rather complicated as you are not sure which key colors your opponent will bring and a few of your card effects might not work on an oppenent that did not bring key colors that are referenced in your cards. Another implementation may be that some houses are boosted by certain key colors. And only your own cards are affected by the key colors you choose. But that's just that, I don't think it's possible to make a fan format this complex without making an entire set.
@@FlightlessPheasantI just remembered the key idea when you said that each key is supposed to be unique and to forge a key, aember must be imbued with psychic resonance thus having the keys take characteristics from the archon that forged them. Going by this logic, I think it makes sense to have keys with the same colors as the archons.
The Rebels were victorious at my store! I went undefeated and won a Floomf as well as a store marked deck! My Rebel pod had Rebels, the Nautillixian, and a bunch of creatures with ready and use abilities. Brobnar and Sanctum backed up the ready and fight mentality, while providing token spam and a way to cash in with double Membership Drive. Never got to use the big robot, but the little Rebels got out of hand every game. We had a blast!
I read that GG plans to announce the Martian Civil War results at KFC. I really enjoyed my first event at Voss Media! It was great to play in person with you again, and I really enjoyed our third game! I feel pretty good that it was a fairly close game, especially now I know the details of your deck! It was great to see KeyForge friends at the event from all over Central and Southern MI!
Not including all the tokens in the starter set would be a disservice to the people who buy them. I’d find it very frustrating if I bought a starter set then immediately needed to get more tokens.
I think you missed something, scroll down several times and look carefully at the Sanctum logo ;) Oh just saw what I mean ONLY happens on the Keyforging side of the same article... you'll notice...
I'm less surpised that Skyborn is being rotated out so soon than I am that Inspired isn't debuting in this set. Still surprising about Skyborn too though. Did you stare at those house icons long enough to see the Sanctum logo flicker?
@aceofkeys Nope, I sure didn't. 🤣 Guess that's the downside of my fast turnaround time! But apparently, it only does that on the Keyforging article, and not on the Gamefound.
Awesome video! Shadows is one of my favorite houses thematically and mechanically. But it's not because of their thieving, it's because of their use of skillful coordination and precision. They have a lot of finesse to them.
@@aceofkeys Absolutely! They are very particular in how they do things. So much so that they prefer the use of skill over technology, as skill fails you less often.
LORE! Shadows is a fun one! I appreciate the insights, and it was nice seeing all the cards examples as they tied into your themes. I did not have the Sigils on my special cards list (there is one more in Sanctum with Sigil of Brotherhood).
7:18 Agree! 7:30 I'm certain this in reference to the adage, "Red sky in morning, sailors take warning; red sky at night, sailors delight". It had something to do with a red sky being the result of excess moisture in the air, possibly indicating a coming storm/rainy weather.
Already written elsewhere: To be honest, I've been waiting for a long time for this to be made official because the rules on the cards are already written so optimally for this from the beginning that it practically screams for it. And if we now imagine that it is well received at the LGS (Local Game Store) and someday also officially available as a digital version alongside the regular KeyForge... then I can only say: sunny future
I think increasing set variety is a good thing, but I can see why people are grumpy about it. I like my matchups being less predictable and more unique. I want to see a top 8 VT consisting of every player using a different set. I like when new sets release because the community has a sense of discovery. There is a new potential of finding something special and it's exciting! When we sit with one set too long people get resigned to saying, "Only this is good, all this is bad. Only care about this to win" it loses appeal for a lot of people.
@aceofkeys I'm not certain that saturating the market with releases really solves that problem. In fact, it might make it worse. People only have so much money to spend on a card game, so if you release too much too close together you're basically guaranteed to see the less popular products fall flat, when if they had more room to breath they might sell better.
This feels like a set for the new players only, and tbh competitively I don't think variety is bad. Actually, the dominance of GR and Geistoid on the VTs is not great and there's something here that does get lost a bit, the set are not rotating out so you can skip sets and play your old decks every time you want to. I'll probably buy a couple of discovery decks just for the fun but otherwise will be a set that I'll skip as it is clearly intended for new players discovering the game :)
That's also a good point to make at the end. I believe that at some point there will be no more CoTA and then this new set makes sense because then all new players can buy it and have a similar feeling as we had back in 2018 when we played CoTA. So to speak an "Alpha" Set Reprinted. I think the idea is cool.
