Ja, well, umm, kinda ..... That's HOPE for ya-- Lutheran's are nice folks in the G.R.and scheme of things; he's a nice Pfella and a Calvinist so I won't go full Frisi on him. Oofda, dem east coasters though ....... Are Heifers and Herefords the same thing; what about a Holstein? Frisii, Frysk, Frisia, Frisian, Friesland, so many terms across so many times frames; they DO matter. Language matters, ja know. Languages too, no? All in good fun but seriously, this isn't even YouTubiversity level info. Thankfully it is not YouTubadversity!! My bias be base, yo!

9:40 I'm pretty sure these documents are not written in Fries, but in Dutch (I'm Dutch myself). Which isn't that odd, since for a long time, it was forbidden by the Dutch government to write or use Fries.

I know this video is 3 years old but it just popped up on my screen and I can't let it past without reacting. There's so much not quite right here. Some mentioned by others already. The birth record is not Frisian at all it's from Alphen and Chaam which is "Brabant" in the south of the Netherlands. Therefore it is in Dutch even as the marriage records. West Frisian is in North-Holland which once was connected to Friesland and for that reason called "West Friesland" and is a region in the province of North Holland. Officially Friesland was as big from Denmark to Belgium allong the coast line. Normally it's not 'you go by the faith which church is located in you town' but there are more churges in every town. The word "Tsiis" (Frisian for cheese) is pronounced exactly te same. Now there's a difference in the Frisian languages because of the modernificasion and connections to other countries but there used to be one Germanic Frisian language and from this language and other Germanic languages like the Saxons the English and Scottish language was derived from. I think the Gothic signs you speak about are the "runes" which were used in a small way until the 17th century but not in these documents. You know New York was taken back from the English by a Frisian person (from my village) in 1673. Take a look at "Emigrants from Friesland" (facebook) for ancestry research.

Thank you very much! My Dad thought that lutheran records were kept with the pastor and were lost when pastorship changed. I'm trying to help him with a brick wall. He did all the work for getting the family Bible record and tracking the maternal Quaker side. I beleive that the paternal side was lutheran as the oldest child had baptism record on family search for reformed church in bendersville, pa and some otger family members are burried in evangelical churches. Bendersville is in the middle of all the quaker meeting houses in the area.

Magic, excitement, wonders, imagination, music, action, fantasy, thrills, and adventures. Wow, South Mountain Fairy Trail. It's so great and beautiful. Fairies are real and they do exist. I love fairies and believe in them, I do. Nothing ceases to amaze me with magic. I never gave up believing in fairies and magic with all my heart because I still refuse to grow up, and forget about the precious things I knew, especially those from my childhood. I am like Peter Pan and have his youthful spirit. There are such things as fairies and magic. My one and only wish is to keep the magic alive for all time. And I also wish to be a fairy to stay strong, childlike, young, and beautiful forever and ever like them, Tinker Bell, and the other fair folks. I, Heran Fatima Gertraud Mouada, am a lover of fantasy, adventures, fun, magic, and creatures. Master and guardian of imagination. Keeper of secrets and treasures. I hate getting and being old, which is awfully terrible to be unattractive, weak, and ugly like a hag with floppy, saggy skin, weak bones, and a wrinkled face. Bleh! Yuck! I don't buy that and seriously don't want to be old. Forever young. Never grow up, yuck! If I was in magical places like Fairyland or Neverland, I would not have to worry about ridiculous civilized laws, strictly bossy people, and stupid grown-up stuff. Problem free. I want to be my true self. No rules, no chores, no responsibilities, no schools, no cops, no parents, and best of all, no growing up. Prevent from aging and growing old. Fantasy rules and reality sucks! Think happy thoughts to make you fly. All it takes is faith, trust and pixie dust. I, Heran Fatima Gertraud Mouada, am a lover of fantasy, adventures, fun, magic, and creatures. Master and guardian of imagination. Keeper of secrets and treasures. I may be shy, insecure, short-tempered, and autistic, but I'm fun-loving, adventurous, creative, high-spirited, free-spirited, and sometimes a little mischievous. I love fairies, magic and fairy tales. Magical things happen, but it only happens if you're young at heart. Live our childhood and carefree life as before and escape adulthood. When there's a smile in your heart, there's no better time to stop. Think of all the joy you'll find when you leave the world behind and bid your cares goodbye. You can fly! Come away and dream away. Let imagination light your way to take you as far as your heart can see. Dream away to a place where hope is shining and find your silver lining 🧚🧚‍♂🧚‍♀🧚🧚‍♂🧚‍♀🧚🧚‍♂🧚‍♀

Groningen province was part of the Frisian Freedom, and later the city of Groningen was the capital. This is important as it links east and west Frisia into a continuous country for 700 years. If you're interested in why it was called 'The Freedom' that's another story. These are some of my ancestors, and I'm very proud of them.

West Friesland is actually in the province of North Holland, Friesland stands on its own, then Oost Friesland which is in Germany and then there is Nord Friesland which is also in the North area of Germany bordering Denmark. According to Wikkipedia, Groningen is in the mix but I highly doubt any Groninger would call himself a Fries. Yeah, it's complicated. Zillion years ago the whole region was called Friesland, which went along the coastline quite a bit south int he now Netherlands.

Wow, I read your book. After the death of my very loved Westie, Zoie, I applied for a rescue Westie. Unknown to me, Penny in your book from Kansas called me out of the blue. Discusting, this wrong information giving by Rev. Nathan S.Busker. All bulshit. You do'n't know anything about Fryslân. Stop with this nonsens !!! Our province of Fryslân is not called, WestFriesland, WRONG ! Only the (little part) in the north area in the province of Noord-Holland in the Netherlands is called West-Friesland. Actually, because it took part, more than tausend years ago as a part of Magna Frisia, a very large area of, what is now called the Netherlands. (from the border of Denmark till the coast/border of Belgium.) The Frisian flag has no harts in it, Those are leafs of a Waterplant, called Waterlelieblad/Pompeblêd. Marum, Lippenhuizen, Wijnterp is not situated in Ost-Friesland in Germany, but in Fryslân. Please, do inform properly, before you talk about this in Family Genealogy !! (my english is bad, I am sorry for that!) Jan Tsjerk

Very interesting! Just about all my ancestors were Frisian from Ned going back centuries. All my research was done online, records easily accessible and information freely available. No dna test showed a distinct Frisian profile, however...I'm 25% Scandinavian, the rest Western European and Germanic.

i was going to comment on the map, but several already have. I would suggest that the map shows where what the "experts" call the West Frisian language is spoken. I grouse about that name for the same reason several have already posted. I would add that Grinslan/Groningen province (sorry, no accent marks on this keyboard) was split off from Friesland by the Swede whom Willem the Silent put in charge of the area during our revolt against Spain. East Friesland was briefly returned to us during the Bonapartist Kingdom of Holland. To answer when did Frisians and East Frisians first arrive, that would be the 1600s. Cornelius May, a West Frisian, and David Pitersz de Vries, explored the Zuyd/South/Delaware River, someone planted a short-lived settlement in what is now Burlington, NJ, off the top of my head i think it was May. Some "north European" bones were found when the streets were dug up for that River Line. There were East Frisians as well as Frisians in New Netherland. The splitting of Holland province was to resolve an old problem, that the two provinces with the largest populations (Holland and Sealan/Zeeland) had ganging up on Friesland and other provinces during the days of the United Provinces. The Reformed Church had already split the Synod of Holland into the Synods of North and South Holland, and the secular government followed suit hoping to keep everybody happy. East Frisian Calvinists started large emigration in the 1800s, originally wanting to be a subset in the German population of St. Louis, but their scouts were deferred to continue up the Mississippi to Savana, IL and what is now German Valley became their big center for settlements in the Great Plains. East Frisian, Frisian and Dutch Mennonites started a Mennonite center in Indiana. There are Mennonites in Missouri with East Frisian surnames. I suspect that they were among those kicked out of Russia by a Czar in the 1800s who settled in Kansas (bringing Ukrainian wheat that started the American Winter Wheat crop) and in time moved east. Sadly the ones i have talked to have lost cognizance of their heritage and think of themselves as German.
