I have been trading stock and options since 2003. Career change for me in 2021, now a full-time trader. I use the thinkorswim trading platform. I am a premium seller, using theta (time) to make money. Also buy fixed income products: CDs, T-Bills & money market funds. Always learning, always trying to improve myself as a person and as a trader.
Hi Jeff, if you're still making videos I just wanted to let you know the volume on this is super low. My RU-vid and pc volume is all the way up and I cant make out what you are saying. maybe you can fix that and more people will watch?
Thanks for the video. You explained exactly what I was looking for to calculate my stock holdings value. I could not find the answer in other videos so thanks!
I've been trying to do this for a while... do I need to modify my Excel (or get a different version) to allow real time date (RTD) to be accessed? When I plug in the formula, the cell remains blank. Thanks!
What version of Excel do you use? Did you copy/paste? Both thinkorswim and Excel need to be running and open simultaneously for this to work. =RTD("tos.rtd", , "LAST", "SPY")
Nice job! Can you also get stock options pricing? or bond prices? If not, then is there some other source of data (Dow Jones? or S&P? or ....?) How about dividends? Current and historical dividend data? I know that I ask for a lot, but just exploring the limits for the General Public investor out there...
Thank you. I believe options prices are available. I will look into it and will let you know. The Dow and SP500 are easy if you use the ETFs DIA & SPY. Bonds, dividends, I do not know.
Thank you for the video! I will install TOS platform in the near future. Question: may a person have the same lay outs on the TOS as the SSE Schwab account?
BS, JUST GET A TREASURY DIRECT ACCOUNT. I HAVE BOTH SCHWAB AND TREASURY DIRECT, 4 WEEK T-BILLS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ON SCHWAB, A T-BILL QUERY ON SCHWAB RETURNS NOTHING ABOUT T-BILLS, TREASURY DIRECT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO IF YOU WANT NEW ISSUE. SNAXX AND SNVXX IF YOU INSIST ON USING SCHWAB
Good video. when you calculate your annual yield are you using 13 4 week periods or 12? I used 13 and come up with an annualized rate, not counting compounding, of 5.35%. Here's how I calc'd: $10000/9959.01=1.0041. 1.0041-1=.0041. Multiply .0041 x 13 (52wks per year / 4 weeks) = 0.0535. That's a little better than 5.27%.
@@daytrademechanic its not just you, i still prefer using a computer too, and a lot of people complain about Schwabs archaic website and mobile app. Coming from TDA is feels like going backwards 2 decades in technological advancement. They have good customer service though!
Hey Jeff! Thanks so much for putting this video together! I think I will reinstall TOS this weekend and this will be a lifesaver in saving and reloading all my layouts and settings! Love your channel !
The gap doesnt concern you? 1 at 18 and 1 at 15. If this goes south and you get put to it, what would you do if it continues down to close those gaps? No premium in calls at that point, Im curious to know what your strategy may be?
@@raysteel6317 Good questions, makes me think ahead! Yes, I will cut it loose. Keep in mind I received 56 cents credit for the put. Now say PLTR closes at $22.50 tomorrow and I get assigned. I will sell a $23 or higher call option Monday. Moving forward, PLTR drops close to $20. I would cover my short call and sell the stock. Cannot hold these positions if they move too much against you.
@@daytrademechanic If you do get assigned, hopefully it stays range bound for a bit or climbs. Good luck and I will be checking in and seeing what new ideas you hav, Subbed.
It you have the drawing tool set to Text Note, just click on the text you want to edit. If the drawing tool is set to something else, double click on the text you want to edit. Or you can right click on the text and click Edit Properties.
Do you mean, if you change time frames? For example, go from a daily to a weekly chart? If so yes the lines stay on the chart. If you move to lower time frames (15 minute) you will need to extend the lines out to the right.
If I have multiple charts on the screen with the same time frame, is there a way to make the cursor track on all charts at the same time that way if I slide the cursor to the left on my first chart, it slides to the left on all the other charts at the same time?
I am using a PC. Video was made using the stand alone thinkorswim platform. I use thinkorswim with TD Ameritrade and Charles Schwab. The platform is nearly identical with both brokers.
@@daytrademechanic i have now. There are different methods like fifo lifo or spesifically selecting the shares to sell. By crossing the sold ones and calculating avg from the rest is best option for me. There is an app called my stocks portfolio. Best one out there
You know, I am not sure why they have the CD prices listed as $100. The minimum purchase is $1,000 If you click the "price" link on the website it says this: For bonds, prices are specified per $100. For example, buying a bond for $95.50 represents paying $955.00 for the bond. Might want to give their fixed income department a call. "Consult with our Fixed Income Specialists at 877-883-2835"
Great question! I have a Tastytrade account, but I have not funded it. I have live accounts at TD Ameritrade, and Charles Schwab. I use thinkorswim for both. Once the markets open up this week, I will see about importing option chain data from thinkorswim. I will look into doing that with Tastytrade as well.
What if you don’t get enough of a return to buy a full share of stock ? Does it just stack up until you do to purchase a full share or does it go into fractional shares ?
You will get fractional shares. I purchased 25 shares of JEPI back in May 2023. I am reinvesting my dividends. So far, I have received: June .168 shares July .165 shares August .133 shares September .156 shares October .177 shares I added 75 shares to my position in October so will be interesting to see what the November dividend pays. Obviously, I will be buying more shares.
Watch my video from around the 5:00 mark. I purchased $2,000 worth of T-Bills. The minimum quantity you can buy is $1,000. When you place the order 1 = $1,000 so in your case, enter 500 in the order box. I would strongly suggest you review your order before you place it. Make sure you are buying the quantity you want.
