Nobody in the UK crosses 7 , it's a European thing because they write 1 with a long upstroke so it's to avoid mistakes . In the UK we write 1 as a single stroke , no 'top' so no mistaking 1 for 7 . This guy is not 100% accurate , maybe he's forgotten . That's just reminded me - we say got , not gotten , probably the '...ten' was dropped in usage as superfluous hundreds of years ago .

The reason for letters appearing in series is because there are 24 different codes (excluding I and O, as they are too close to 0 and 1). So BA12 3CD can be more than 1,000,000 versions but things like BA = Bath or BN= Brighton, London is different as its a compass area so SW1 is South West London

For example here is the code for a local motor parts business: E25 XW92 and Cashel Folk Museum E25 A470. Cashel area code is E25, then the next four chracters are the house or business locator. This is all online and if you know the code you can find the address and if you know the busienss name you can find the code. The code is so good, some people just put up their Eircode instead of a house number. The code works with Google maps. The system is even simpler than the UK, you only need the Eircode and not an address to find a house.
The Irish Alphanumeric 7 character sytem gives a potential 13Million variations. 3 times the popualtion of the country, there's spare capacity in the system. Add one more letter and you'd get 338 million variations, more than enough for the USA.

If we give the time we shorten it to, for example, 7;15 and not 19;15 After all, anyone with eyes will know that it is morning or evening. Nor is it just a difference between GB and US. If, as a Pole, I have to switch to giving the time in am, pm, I have in my head for a while "F..k, how was it ?". Generally a day has 24 hours that's why we use 24 hour clocks.

My nephew is obsessed with emergency services so recently when I saw a police van with loads of officers at an event in London, I went up and asked if I could take a photo for my nephew. Its a question of being government party policy or not, if the prime minister and therefore leader of the party wants this to be part of the platform it will be introduced to Parliament as a bill. If not the white paper will have to find an opposition MP to bring it to parliament for them, it will probably fail because the government has said it doesn’t want the bill passed, but it can allow Parliament and committees to redraft it, and for an opposition party to pick it up and put it in their manifesto/platform for the next election.
