Idk who needs to hear this, but one should also study the implications of the fingernail moons aka the lunula in connection with Folate status in the body. I was prescribed Bactrim (the anti-biotic) for an infection years ago, and at the time i noticed my fingernail moons disappearing (due to it's inhibition of DHFR and it stopping my Folate conversion of Folic Acid), but didn't really think much about that (stupidly) until recently, and after supplementing with Folate (at first Folic Acid but it sucks so now i use Methylfolate) i'm noticing my fingernail moons growing back, it seems slow progress though, and as they say Folate can take a few months or so, maybe even a year or longer for the body to become more fully replenished with Folate, and so far the fingernail moons seem to be an indicator of Folate status in the body. So i think that should be taken into account in future Folate-related studies in general.
And remember, Folate works together with the other B vitamins, as well as some minerals and such, so relying solely on Folate probably isn't going to be as effective as say Folate+B12, Riboflavin, Niacin, B6 (P5P, not Pyridoxine), possibly Thiamine and B5 and i think even Biotin, and then like Zinc, Magnesium, Copper, and so on, all of which are involved in some way or another in metabolic and enzymatic processes whether used directly as co-factors or indirectly through other means/enzymes.
