Interesting video ...thanks😊. I am 70 yrs old and I don't think I have owned that much clothing in my entire life! I could afford it but I have always reduced anything in my home by getting rid of anything that has not been used in the past 3 months! I think it stems from the fact that I went to a boarding school from the age of 11 yrs to 18 yrs and got quite used to the fact that whatever was needed for the school term ( 3mths) had to fit in the suitcases that had to be transported . Good for you for taking the decision to declutter and a word of encouragement......life gets better and better each year as you get older and contentment is wonderful!!!😀

Deep declutters can really move some deep personal waters. In a way that's how you know you're making progress. I hope you're doing well emotionally now and congrats on a beautiful wardrobe (and pupper!)

Awesome work Laura fair play for sticking it through. Have you heard of getting your colours done? Apparently we are all one of 4 seasons spring, summer, autumn and winter and that certain tones of a colour suit you best. I did it a few years ago and it made a huge difference, I’m a winter for example and that is either pastels or the gem colours like amethyst, ruby red, emerald green etc

1. Does it fit/comfort/Does it make you feel good? 2. How often do you wear it? 3. Do you skip over it in favour of something else? 4. How likely will I be wearing it? 5. Is it your style? What are your stylesets? 6. Will you be fixing it if it was damaged or rebuy it?

My original guess was that you'd keep 178 pieces of clothing and 27 shoes. You kept 158 and 35. Better than I expected! 😊 Completing the challenge or not it sounds like it was a lot of productive personal work.

I found Carol Brailley in the last few months and that was enough to make me purge my entire closet! I'm a total believer in seasonal colour analysis because of her before and after videos. It just let me let go of a lot of clothes I had been hanging onto because I could suddenly see the colours weren't flattering. Idk if you feel this way, but I find food greatly affects my mood. I realised a few years ago that I don't actually have anxiety, but I do have a sugar addiction that physically makes me anxious when I eat sugar! Vegetable oils and wheat are also no good for me, and cause other problems (terrible migraines, headaches, back pain, etc). Btw I just turned 43 but I feel like I'm just getting started in life again, but maybe that's partly because I have a 2 year old 😂

"Not a bag person" - says someone with 23 bags HAHAHA. I get it. It seems like the 12 you kept, are more for looks like art pieces that look nice on the shelf. You said you tend to just use your pockets.

First time here. First impressions are almost always wrong: I thought minimalist, gardener, many pets. I am surprised (pleasantly) that you are a collector of clothes, shoes, handbags and not afraid to purge when necessary. Enjoyed your video. Thanks, you sparked a need in me to tidy & organize. I have already purged.

40 is actually a perfect age. You are still young, things don't sag or creak, you can get on the floor to play with your kid. But you are old enough to have wisdom and not constantly worried about where life will lead you. Take it from a 58 year old.

I had 70 pairs of shoes, and I got rid of 48 pairs 6 years ago.. now I have 25 pairs... I purchased some news but decluttered 7 this year with the in/out rule. For my bags is another history, I sold a lot, but I purchased some new ones that were a lot more expensive and I don't know what to do with the older ones that I got.. I always forget things when I change for smaller purses... 😢

I now have a rule - if I buy something new, I get rid of an item. Keeps things updated and less cluttered. And yes, I have lots of clothes and now I enjoy wearing them. I am retired and it has taken me literally years to change my wardrobe from “work outfits” to a bit more casual clothes. It is difficult to let go of clothes you love, but ones that no longer fit or your style now. (I feel your pain!)

Maybe you should do a 'wear everything I have in my wardrobe' challenge again. This time, though, if you put on something you really don't like or it doesn't feel right, put it in the 'donation' bag there and then.

This is a gem of a video. I love that you were able to wear so much from your closet. It’s all so fun and flattering The getting rid of many old items of clothing made me feel the same way. I realized I was holding my old life in a higher esteem than my present and that just can’t fly. Life is great every moment that it’s great lol

I was never a decanting person, until we moved to a house with open pantry shelves (no doors) and I hated the sight of boxes and bags (even when put into nice white bins). Now I like it. It doesn't take long to keep up with decanting, just the first time decanting everything. I also tape the cooking directions onto the side or back of things like pasta, rice, quinoa anything I might forget or someone in the house (husband, kids) might not know exactly how long to cook.

Feel proud. Now your mind must be much more at ease. I am sure you will do more color schemes to make sure you don't go back. I am going to be 65 and having empty spaces quiets the mind. You end up wearing what you like as you have experienced the most anyhow.

I did a big declutter around 40. Then perimenopause hit and I gained weight. So I had to start again. I only buy things I love. I do feel pressure to buy more because I always get compliments. I intend to have a one in and one out situation because I'd rather have things I wear than a closet full of clothes. Shoes however are growing exponentially because they bring me great joy.
@Chad_Thundernuts

I get it now. So, the vacuum itself doesn't spark joy, but the freshly vacuumed carpet does. The dish brush doesn't spark joy, but those sparkling dishes do. Good stuff :)

That was so relatable! I love how you kept in honest and real :) I was SO into clothing when I was younger, like in my late teens and all through my 20s. When I hit my 30s, something changed. I saw how all my clothes just overwhelmed me and so many of them didn't bring me any joy. So much was flimsy and badly made or stuff that was for my fantasy-me. I did a lot of decluttering over 1-2 years. I thing I may have done too much because I have to keep up with my washing now, otherwise I easily run out of clothes :D As I told a colleague of mine, she said that that's a really nice position to start from though and she would love to be at that point. I believe she is right! I buy so few pieces of clothing nowadays and if I do, they always fit my preferences and my lifestyle and sometimes I sit and wonder how much I have changed :)

I need to do this with my shoes. I'm pretty good about getting rid of my clothes but i need to go through my shoes and determine which ones are comfy and which ones arent. Would you do anything differently if you did it again? Like maybe starting with the clothes you havent worn much? Or focusing on one thing at a time like tops or bottoms?

You can with things you have semi sentimental feelings for take a photo on you phone and make a folder for them... Maybe you look everyday or never gain but you have the possibility to look at the item again without psysical clutter...

This was so helpful. I decluttered my closet a couple of years ago and it is still so packed full. I like your method but not sure I could get past wearing each item everyday. I do try them on and try to sense if they make me feel good at that moment. You have inspired me to get back in there and do more decluttering. Closet blessings to all of us lol!

I have come to realize that our grandparents had the original basic plan. But, over time, the present have taken it out of line. When we shop at the grocery store, we are given the illusion that we have so much to choose from, when we actually dont. The majority of it is redundant, pkgd in different containers and renamed. So we think we need more space, but we dont. What we have in stores are convenient items. Which makes for more. Keeping items basic and simple is still the key. The convenient made it harder. The irony.

Thanks for the video--fun idea, wearing everything to see...I will try it. I solved a massive chunk of my chronic depression when I noticed I suddenly WASN'T depressed after taking aspirin; but knowing regular aspirin would shred my stomach, I take ones derived from willow bark, and it has been a game-changer. I notice that you gravitate towards multiple versions of the same things, like I do: several similar brown bags, for instance (for me, it's black shoes). While it's good to have backup, most of the time it's the exasperation of having traits you need in one bag spread out over several. This has driven me into making my own things. But often it's a vibe or look one is unconsciously reaching for, like a fix. It will save you money and regret to profile your own drives! Lastly, I love how clear and organized your closet system is, that white-wire modular stuff--I will keep that in my back brain as a system that actually works. Cheers! 😊
