I found one on fb marketplace for 31 doritos. How likely is this a scam or maybe someone that just wants to get rid of it or its broken but they just said its perfectly working
Thank you so much. I’m headed to buy one tomorrow and I’ll set it up the same way you did. Never was a fan of phone photography and this would be my first decent camera. So pretty hyped for this one
In all cases the microphones are connected to an external recorder. They are not connected to the camera at all. The G7X MII does not have a mic. jack so you can't connect an external mic to this camera. My apologies if my video is confusing. This is really a video on how to use an external recording set up with the camera so you can improve audio quality.
I want a camera for professional photography, videography and content creation/vlogging so it needs to also have front camera mirroring capabilities. I need clean cut quality for visual and audio. What would you recommend?
Had my G7X Mark II for years, but I've never really tried to use it 'properly'. Would you be interested in making a video about how you have your settings for film vs photography on the G7X Mark II?
@@Daniflicks-bn1hk I bought mine on eBay from a seller in Japan. Almost freaked out when I turned it on and the menu was in Japanese. Took a little RU-vid research to switch to English.
Thanks for this. I found the Canon site very confusing with little direction which LUTs were for what camera and had about given up on using Cinema mode altogether. Since watching your vid I’ve focused on the LUT you described and it appears to work reasonably well, but I’m not sure whether the 100’s codec makes CLog superior to WDR. There seems to be a mix of channels saying only use CLog, others saying it’s too hard to reliably get great footage,l and only use WDR, and others using 3rd party profiles that are graded differently (ie OwlBot). Curious if you have settled on using CLog most of the time or found another profile and LUT more desirable for your work.
@@InventorAndCurious For daily shooting at work I like wide dr. I get a great consistent outcome and I don’t really have to do much if anything in post. I only have one C100 so I use standard in my multicam shots where I need quick turnaround. I don’t really like standard personally. If I have a personal project I like to play with clog. I love the clog look but I don’t really need it for work to get a solid outcome. It’s definitely a very different look than wide dr.
@@jz_glass I find WDR gives good results but the CLog seems to give more lifelike colors in the skin if you get exposure right. If you miss it by much it looks pretty bad. Kinda high stakes visual poker. If the EVF had waveforms, it might help, but setting and exposing zebras @ 70 and backing of 1-2 clicks usually works. Multiple faces, movement, skies….make it a bit harder. I use Canon 35mm f2.8 efs Macro with face tracking for heads; Tokina 11-16 for ultra wide; Sigma 18-35 for when I’m behind the camera and have planned shots where I can focus; and the Canon 18-135 efs for convenience or when a long lens is needed and the scene has decent lighting.
That’s really disappointing. This camera would be the solution of what I’m looking for if it had fantastic auto focus. I want to shoot sports photography which requires flawless AF and continuous shutter. I want to keep small and light but it keeps on looking like I’m going to have to go with more advanced interchangeable lens systems despite heavier weight and bulk.
Yeah I’m really bummed. I love the Canon look. Not much out there in the point and shoot arena with good autofocus. I re-purchased the markII. I shot a lot of wrestling with it but I don’t think it has the distance for field sports.
Have had this camera in the closet for a while but haven't really used it much. Now I need to beat my budy who made an amazing family vacation video compilation with his gopro. You've convinced me to bring this, we leave for Japan tomorrow! Thanks.
Thank you. You saved me some money. I'm a Darran Alf fan and he retired his Mark 11 for a Mark 111 bought for him by his cycling fans. I got my hands on an unused Canon G7X Mark 11. I'm sticking to that. Good luck to you. Bye for now. PS.. I've subscribed and liked this vlog.
There is nothing like the mark 11. Mine is being repaired and I shot a camping trip with the Sony ZV-1 that we use in the office for BTS. Skin tones were weird, the photos just seemed to be missing something. This experience cemented for me that the Mark II is a special camera and my number 1 choice for documenting my life.
Hey, really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with SEO your videos and optimizing your channel, which will help your channel and videos to rank on top of the search result. In result your videos will reach to a wider audience ! Please Lmk what do you think ?
Just scored a LNIB markii earlier on Facebook for $50 under retail which to me is a steal when most post people are trying to fetch $800-1000 for this damn camera. Like you stated at the end of the video I think the biggest factor when deciding to buy this camera was the Classic Canon color science/film like softness look on the stills (which I happen to like) and ease of use/overall form factor compared to my EOS-R with the ‘holy trinity’.
I've heard that the Sony RX100 vii is the best of the point and shoots, 24-200 compatible lens and features galore but pricey. I'm trying to get for travel but this one is also on backorder everywhere
I seriously considered that camera. A little pricey but the longest zoom in it's class. I can't remember why I didn't move forward on that one. I think it was minor and I was splitting hairs. That's a great camera.
You can shoot manual or on auto it doesn't really matter because you are recording to an external recorder. You will need to sync the external audio with the video recording in your editing software like adobe premier pro. Not sure if I answered your question. Let me know.
I‘ve been debating between getting the ZV1 II and G7X Mark II. I want to mainly do vlogging, but I would also love to do some photography sometimes and I think the flash is missing in the ZV1. Can you say something about photography with the ZV1? Which camera would you suggest?
The ZV1 II is a better vlogging camera due to the mic jack and the image quality has that modern Sony look. It takes great pics for a point and shoot but no flash. You can get away with no flash unless you are in low light situations a lot. Then the flash is a game changer. You can still get great photos indoors, it's just that there is a point when you just need a flash. If those situations are not frequent for you then go with the Sony for vlogging. I think in the long run you will have fewer limitations with audio for video. I use my ZV1 at work for bts photo and video. I keep an external mic on it all the time. I don't really need a flash for this scenario. For work I go with the ZV1 all day long. It's my grab and go camera. That being said for my personal life I love my G7XII. It's my every day carry and I document all of my family and outdoor adventure trips with it. The mic is plenty good for this in my opinion. I do use the flash quite a bit as we maybe in a dark restaurant or at a theme park in the evening. If my family or friends are backlit by the sun I pop the flash. Honestly I am torn between the two and at the moment if I had to pic one I lean towards the Sony because the G7X II is getting long in the tooth, however if you logged the number of photos and video hours on each camera I grab my G7X II a lot more. I think a lot of that has to do with familiarity, my muscle memory shooting manual with the G7XII is much better but I am getting quicker with the Sony with more use. I need to use the Sony more this year and I will have more confidence in choosing one over the other. Logically I like the Sony better but practically I use the Canon more.
Never noticed until you pointed it out. I don't really use the G7X II for this kind of video every day so never noticed. Mostly I use it to document my life and that involves being behind the camera on travel trips where I don't usually have stationary backgrounds. It is what it is.
I want to buy it for aesthetic vintage pictures and I saw it does excellent pictures, should I consider buying another camera and if yes what do you recommend for nice filtered „old style“ pictures?
From what I have heard in the comments the Mark III is fine for photos. I shoot a lot of video along with photos so the video aspect is as important as the photo aspect for me. If you think you might shoot some video with the camera and you want the same look I would buy a used G7X Mark II on ebay, adorama or B&H. I was lucky and found a new Mark II on ebay. I hear that a lot of people that like the vintage look shoot on fuji, however I have never shot fuji so that is not from experience. If you really want that old style look I would consider an old point and shoot film camera like the Olympus mju/Stylus. There are some old Minoltas that are very affordable.
My G7X Mk II died, wont power on. Two repair shops said Canon no longer makes this camera and no longer makes parts for it. Can anyone out there confirm if this is true? I still see the Mk II still for sale some places. Hmmm...
Officially I have no idea if Canon has discontinued. The Mark II is listed on Canon USA's website but on backorder. Everywhere I looked the new ones were on backorder. I ended up finding a vendor on ebay that had a new one for sale in Japan. Bought that one. Interestingly enough the menu was in Japanese. It was impossible for me to read. I had to do a little youtube research to set it to English.
@@jz_glass Today I called Canon to clarify conflicting info. They said they haven't actually "discontinued" supporting their Powershot cameras, but they never actually repaired these cameras. It was not cost effective. Rather, the ones under warranty were replaced. For owners of Powershots out of warranty Canon simply recommended replacement. They don't make the Mark II anymore, but residual stock may still be available and sold. I cannot say why places list the Mk II as on backorder, unless this is a default setting on their websites. I suspect if you wait for them to fill their backorder, you will never see it. The Mark III replaced the Mk II. I hope this help you and others.
@@jz_glass I was getting so much conflicting info from camera repair shops I decided to ask Canon directly. So I hope your video and our exchange helps people decide when camera shopping. Cheers.
I know there are newer versions of each, but really, there haven't been any solid improvements since the Sony RX100 VA or the Canon G7X II. That's at least 5-7yr old tech!! Like you said, high-end phones have just killed the profitability in this market, but phones don't have the physical controls, fast true zoom lenses, large sensors, exchangeable batteries, real flash or provide the ability to trigger slave strobes. The camera companies should be able to make something that absolutely kicks-ass with the latest processors, sensors and computational photo tricks... if only they would.
Agreed. At least Sony is still playing the game. Canon seems to have checked out of this part of the market. Agree 100... I much prefer an actual camera than my phone.
Im so glad i wasn't alone in feeling this way. Bought this camera 1month ago, since i wanted to test out a smaller camera than the M50 m2 that im usually shoot with. But the autofocus is just so bad for making videos on the go. Planning to return it this weekend. 😔 I really liked the look of the camera and the fact that it has a mic in connection.
For me personally, i love all the photos that took with my markiii especially with flash on. But for filming, the autofocus is bad even w the new firmware update :(
Thanks for the review! According to all the influencers, you would think this is the best camera ever made. I'm looking for one to take video at my daughters cheer/dance competitions. Do you have any recommendations?
I'm a big Canon fan but the reality is that the Sony ZV1 i is probably the best camera in this class right now. I like the ZV1 i better than the ZV1 ii for your daughter's competitions because it has a 75m zoom vs the ZV1 ii maxes out at 50mm. I own the ZV1 i. It's really good. The autofocus is incredible and you can hook up a microphone if you want. If you want a little more reach the Canon G7X Mii is good because it has a 100mm equivalent zoom, however you can not hook up a microphone and it only shoots in 1080, no 4k. The internal mic is good but not as good as hooking up an external. I had a hard time finding a new G7X ii, but ended up overpaying on ebay for one. I use the G7X ii for hiking because the mic for that kind of shooting isn't that important to me. The ZV1 is probably the better camera with more features these days, the only downside on the photo side is that there is no built in flash.
I have this camera but I dropped it at a bad angle and damaged the opening mechanism…Now I’m considering what to do. The focus is a nightmare, but the colour and look is like nothing else. I had the Mark II previously but I use an external mic so this ticked the box. It’s such a shame, if it weren’t for the damn focus this is a powerhouse! I’m looking into the Sony too but it doesn’t have in-built flash 😐
Except for a little lower level build quality and trash autofocus the mark iii would be amazing. Canon really missed an opportunity here. I ended up getting a Mark II because just like you I love the look. I did get a ZV1 but the look is not the same. Don't get me wrong the ZV1 has an excellent image quality but there is something about the Canon look.
@@jz_glass Interesting about the build, I got mine in silver metal and it feels very heavy and premium. (Maybe too heavy hence I dropped it). Yea, I don't know what Canon is thinking, Their G7x line has had a cult following for a decade, it doesn't make sense that they don't take advantage of it. It's due an update, it would sell out so fast.
@@TheVirgin If Canon fixes the autofocus it I would be happy. If they fix the autofocus and have build quality as good as the mark ii, I would snap it up in a minute.
Thanks for the info. Im deciding between sony xz v1 and canon mark g7 x III but maybe mark 2 is just better then 🙂 Its just that I definitely wanna be able to connect a microphone to it but I have read that with mark 2 you cannot really do that ? 🤔
So... I ended up purchasing the Mark II and the ZV1. If The G7X MII does not have a mic jack so if you want audio that is better than the built in mic you need to record audio externally. This makes this a bit cumbersome. If having a compact camera with a built in mic jack is important to you go with the ZV1.
So great to find these videos on this great old camera. One observation though. One can easily miss that you are recording all the audio on the h1n, and just swapping mics. Since your not making it very clear that you are just using the h1n to record external audio, and are just trying different mics connected to the zoom recorder to demo better audio. The footage can show a different story if you're not paying real close attention. Thanks again for bringing out the canon on the tube again.
I have this camera and you are 100 billion percent correct. Auto focus is the worst and I find myself putting the mark iii in the closet. Then I would remember I have a camera just to use it and remember it is trash!!!! Its pretty embarrassing to be seen with the g7x mark iii and I also have the latest update which does not fix the autofocus....TRASH TRASH TRASH
