Pretty late, but Cap K and Finkley both had pink triangles on their self-designed "uniforms"! Holy shit, when I noticed that, it became kinda obvious that they're gonna die. 1) because pretty much everyone who had a pink triangle on his jacket at that time was killed off (it was the sign of homosexuality, like the yellow star for Jews). 2) because if they're really going out loud n' proud (quite literally lol), it probably means they know they're gonna die. The Allies also didn't like the gays, so it would make no sense otherwise. In his final scene, I think Cap K was holding a part of Finkel's jacket, implying he just watched the love of his life die. He's truly a tragic hero, it just takes a while for the viewer to notice.
Came here to say that your post-episode reactions and discussion are my favorite aspects of your channel and videos. Thanks for taking the show, the writing, and the characters seriously and adding so much value to everyone's watching experience.
If we get a season 4, which will be the last and align with volume 6 which Alice is currently writing, I would love to see that memories book make a reappearance. She has said at the end of volume 6 that she wants to include an epilogue. Wouldn’t it be amazing if part of the epilogue was that memory book, now completely filled with their memories of their life together. College, wedding, kids, etc. That would be the perfect end to Heartstopper in my opinion.
Sorry to break it to you, but episode 4 will require a lot of tissues again. Episode 4 is different, but the acting in these first 4 episodes is just outstanding.
Charlie's dad's face in the final scene just breaks me. We know he loves and cares for Charlie so much, even though he sometimes takes a back seat to his wife when he shouldn't. And seeing the pure devastation and heartbreak on his face kills me. And knowing what comes in the next episode, seeing Tao so worried and concerned here gets me in my feels too.
@@DSGodiva yes! That got me too. Both parents look heartbroken, but there's something about the dad's reaction that suggests he's absolutely gutted by Charlie's revelation. Just another example of the phenomenal acting in this series.
Rules....watch what Charlie does to his sandwich. His rules might be that every piece of food must be divided into X number of pieces, he can only eat half or a quarter of those pieces, and none of them can touch his lips. Each piece must be chewed X number of times....eating disorders are generally about control. Rules establish that perception of having some control. I found him tearing that sandwich apart physically painful to watch.
I cried through the first half of the season, and then squealed through the second half. This is such an important story line and so beautifully written & acted. Your tears are all of us. Rest assured, the pain is balanced with smiles in the end 🫶🏻 They all grow up so much this season.
I love that Doctor Who doesn't shy away from real topic even if the Doctor is making it sound to Rose as if it's all fun and games. As you said, Mickey and Jackie are reminding us that there is real consequences under all the silliness.
I remember reading somewhere that the instructions Christopher got to play this scene by RTD was to play what would be like if a holocaust survivor met a Nazi after WWII
2:44 it’s kind of underplayed, but judging by their homes and some of the things they can afford (including the parties we see!), a lot of the families in Heartstopper seem pretty well off financially. Just an observation And yeah, Tori, Nick, Elle, Tara, Darcy, and Imogen are all in the same year; this is their next-to-last year of high school. Charlie, Tao, and Isaac are a year younger. Nick turns 17 this season and Charlie turns 16.
Charlie’s mum wanting to make sure he’s putting his best foot forward in school is valid, and it makes sense that she would feel protective. But I think just randomly accusing him of having sex (which he isn’t yet) and refusing to listen when he tries to explain himself is not creating a good dynamic. Charlie’s constantly on edge around his mum because she sets that tone. It seems like his mum’s default reaction when she thinks something might be going wrong with Charlie is to criticize him. We saw it last season when his grades started slipping, she didn’t try to figure out what was going on or work with him to get back on track, she just assumed it was all Nick and punished him. And we saw that Charlie continued to struggle with focus even when Nick wasn’t around. In this episode she found Charlie in his room, where it was very obvious he had been crying, and just immediately accused him of texting Nick. I think he needed a hug, not a paracetamol. His mum doesn’t have bad intentions, her execution is just not good. And it all contributes to an environment where Charlie doesn’t feel comfortable confiding in his parents at all. ☹️ This might be why Tori chooses to reach out to Nick, not their own parents, too. Isaac and Charlie’s friendship this season has been really sweet. ❤ I don’t think we’d ever seen them interact one on one before. The Tori website was her personal tumblr! Before Heartstopper there was a novel about Tori called Solitaire, and in it she has a tumblr blog where she answers lots of anonymous questions. I think featuring it in the show was a fun Easter egg for OG fans. It’s revealing too, you might have seen that the message she received asked who her best friend is and she replied, “probably my brother. sad”
Thank you so much for the write-up! I caught the Tori website when I went to edit. Her comment nearly broke me again. 😂 I think we agree regarding Charlie's mom. Communication is clearly the issue and her approach needs work. I will say that when I was going through something similar to Charlie, I did not make it easy on my Mother when it came to understanding my issues and the more she tried, the more I pushed back. And I am a bit of a Momma's boy (okay, a lot 😅) so it breaks my heart to see them so misaligned.
@@ChachiSays Yes, it’s difficult to watch, but so realistic! Not every adult is going to be as patient and sensitive as Nick’s mum, and as Charlie’s health declines I think we’re seeing him become increasingly tense and reactive. In season 2 Charlie talked about how much he struggles when he feels like he doesn’t have control over his life, and I think his mum might struggle with a similar thing, which makes her want to micromanage Charlie and preemptively criticize him before things get out of control… but that sets him off and makes him defensive, and then they can’t have a productive conversation. It’s so hard!
Thank you for reacting to this movie. It's one of my all-time favorites. Taika Waititi is brilliant and has a real gift for casting/directing child actors - you should watch Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople to see other great examples. This film is so emotional, funny, heart-rending, and inspiring - possibly the best of Taika's career so far
Charlie , Tao and Isaac are one year below the others. They take their GCSEs next year. Charlie was just picking up Nicks results. GCSEs are taken at the end of year 11 (USA grade 10)
I think Tara is just feeling the pressure that comes with high grades and high expectations. Charlie is a year behind, along with Tao and Isaac. They won’t take those tests until next school year.
I just wanted to thank you for the grace you give Charlie's mother. So many reactors sound a bit like angsty teenagers themselves when talking about her. We need to remember that just because you're older doesn't mean you've got all your shit figured out-- are her words and actions great? No, they're not. Could she give her son more respect and consideration? Absolutely, yes. Does she have trauma that may affect her in ways she can't always control? Maybe so. I do really appreciate your take on her ❤❤
24:49 Tori does have her own storyline in Alice Oseman's first book, "Solitaire." (It's the original mention of Nick and Charlie.) So there are little Easter eggs in Heartstopper and some overlap in the timelines.
I love your reactions because you so clearly care about these characters and you're open to sharing your emotions. (i.e. thank you for crying on screen lol) I've read and watched Heartstopper more times than I can count, and I am still recovering from this season. Can't even hear certain songs without bursting into tears.
I think people keep forgetting that Charlie, Tao, and Isaac are a year younger. Haha i keep seeing people wondering why they don't have their test scores. But they won't take them until next year. I'm not from the UK but i just inferred this from the show. 😊
11:27 i get that a lot of ppl feel bad about isaac but charlie's brain is literally not okay and he would never have agreed to join isaac for nando's coz he can't eat in front of ppl. he's not purposefully ignoring isaac. this is not me being mad about your commentary btw i've just seen so many ppl shit on charlie this season and it's so hurtful especially for ppl who relate to him and his mental issues :((
@@wirlfilms I get ya and I agree. My frustration wasn’t directed at Charlie but more so just wanting someone to be there for him. I just wanted them to hangout which we got in the end ☺️
Joe really flashed me this episode. All his broadway and marvel acting clearly paid off, he's clearly stepping up his acting game. Kit said he sat in the same room while shooting the call scene to give cues and he was in awe with Joe's performance.
Charlie, Tao and Issac haven’t done their exams (test) yet, they are a year below the others, they where at the tests results day to support the others, they do the tests later in this season
Love can't cure a mental illness. The best part of having to replace Sarah with Diane was giving her a psychological background so she could talk about it in a more professional way. While still keeping in aome classic lines from the comic.
@@KnightRaymund it makes me sad to think of how beautifully Olivia would have delivered this material, but the actress who plays Diane was fantastic. Such big shoes to fill.
I’d love to say that the emotional roller coaster is at its peak in this episode but I don’t want to lie to you. It’s been over a week and I still haven’t recovered from episode 4
Be prepard with tissues, episode 4 brokes me 😭😭😭 and yeah i hope olivia is in season 4 back, fingers cross 🤞🏻and of course is aunt Diane loveley, she is sarahs sister and darcys nan is gold, charlie is year 10, nick year 11
This episode works great for old school Whovians as well as NuWhovians, the introduction of the Dalek hits us harder than the new viewers, our suspicion is first triggered by the blue light in the eyestalk, and then the infamous Dalek raspy “DOC-TOR?!” With the two side dome ‘ear lights’ just hammers the terror home… DALEK! And the “ELEVATE” sequence was a friendly poke at the original Dr. Who Daleks that were indeed able to be stopped by stairs, the fan response at the time was “real Daleks don’t climb stairs, they level the building!” As far as the Dalek blaster weapon goes, when a Dalek scans its target for extermination, the computers show the exact power level needed for instantaneous death of the target… The Dalek inside the casing then REDUCES the power output by 20% and fires, to increase the agony the target feels
Just being Devil's advocate for a second. The Dalek had just spent god knows how long being tortured by Henry van Statten and his staff so even some alien less evil than a Dalek might have slaughtered them both in revenge and because they were stopping it escaping (and thus threatening to restrain it and start torturing it again).
