Hey MetalMotoMayhem, I’ve been watching your older videos of the issues and frustrations you had with this bike from new. How many hours do you have on it now? And how has it treated you? Do you take back what you said about it being a POS 😂? All jokes aside I’m curious to hear your thoughts and if you’d ever consider buying another one brand new again.
@awesomefish100 40 hours on the bike and its a ridiculously fun bike. I highly recommend one if you can get one . The bike is frustrating when you never seen the crazy stuff that ktm stuck in the airbox and the ecu that doesn't work with out the reeds in it ... I spent some serious cash to get a 15 thousand dollar bike to run correctly..... extra 2 grand . and I still had to buy a skid plate and graphics to make it look ok . Other then that the bike is fine now . Would I buy it again No ! I'd buy a 450 and go to dirt legal. Would of been half the price.
@toddschultz8906 I have no experience on the vortex ecu, so I can't say, but I almost bought the vortex for the bike . You can use your phone or laptop on the Atena. Get ecu with wifi if you like that teck shit I don't. I'd rather plug it in and go ..... I have the get !
@@metalmotomayhem thx for the input. I seen videos of the get ecu and the handlebar switch and how the traction control works. Wondering if traction control works with the vortex.
I miss when most of Florida was like that, there's nothing on my side of polk county left to ride like that. People immediately call the police lol. I may have to go explore 2 hrs or so away to roll up on some good riding like this!
@@metalmotomayhem croom is always a great time! Wayyyy too much to see in one day. I havent done ocala national forest yet, can't wait to see the video on that!
I just bought myself a new 24 500 Ktm and installed a Vortex ECU and removed the air box reeds and an FMF Q4. What a difference it made. So much power now. Just like yours!
I have the same bike. Just bought the FMF 4.1. I don’t have an ECU yet and the intake reeds are still installed. Will the bike function properly with just the FMF muffler installed?
I took the reeds out of my 2024 500 and replaced ECU with a Vortex and replaced muffler with an fmf Q4 and it transformed the bike into a much better duel sport. I get pleanty of bottom end without the reeds. Are you keeping yours in for a reason?
I have a get sx1 ecu and a fmf exhaust system no the reeds are out of the bike and it runs amazing the only reason I want to put the reeds back in is when I sell the bike and put it back to stock I'll use the ecu and pipe for another ktm bike ...
No 😂hahahahah I sanded it down to the metal to a polish and almost just paint it with clear ! Lol 😅 new primer and wet sand. What a pain in the ass 😂 yes it sucked 😂hahahahah
I removed the reeds from the airbox 6 months ago. I got an Athena Get Ecu and FMF slip-on exhaust for the bike .. I remember the reed were only silicone in for a month and need to be redone, so I was checking them at every air filter my cleaning I did, and it was every other ride, so advice is to take out the reed block and get a ecu tune and a end cap for the cheep or Get the Sx1 Athena get ecu and FMF slip-on exhaust for the bike otherwise your at risk of them coming out ..... good luck 👍 hopefully this helps..
@@metalmotomayhem Thanks, contacted the guys at TACO MOTO and went the inexpensive route, since I am not into racing or super fast riding. Unreal that KTM has not issued a recall or fix for this issue - I have the six days version and spent darn near $16000.00 for this bike - should not have to deal with this bs.
@@metalmotomayhem Thanks for the tip, I contacted TACO MOTO Co. - great guys there. They asked me about how I ride, etc. and they recommended the DOBECK EJK PIGGY-BACK FUEL INJECTION TUNER, PRO MOTO BILLET / FASTWAY INSERT TIP, and PRO MOTO BILLET / FASTWAY SPARK ARRESTOR END CAP. All of this with next day shipping cost $529.47. The bike is a little snappier than before, but basically runs the same, except smoother. Was not very hard to install and set up. I am not very mechanically inclined, but I figured it out and installed all of this with no problems. So if a guy is not racing and happy with the power and power delivery of the bike, you can save quite a bit of money with this set up verses a new ecu and slip on exhaust.
So where's your friend I saw in the front end of this? He might be behind you but I didn't see him at the end so I guess he was just part of the ride until he wasn't..... lol, that's my story. So do you have to do maintenance by the hours of operation on this bike? I like KTM & their manufacturing b/c they do some cutting edge things in their operation(building of engines) but the need to take the bike to a Dealer would be a problem for my but I do like their bikes. I like the one you're on, it looks like a lot of fun. ride safe >> peace
It looks great but the rougher the texture the more air it's going to grab a vehicle that large you could probably feel the difference, I would still like to do this on a four-wheel drive where high speed aerodynamics isn't a option anyway but when you get ready to change colors or something how in the hell do you sand that stuff off? It's like Teflon right?
This is what happens when you have a off road bike made barely street legal...i have a 18 and the same week i bought it i drilled my end cap took the reeds out blocked that air injection and put a piggy back fuel comander on mine... yeah it sucked to spend extra money on a brand new bike... but now that ive done it it is now the bike i was expecting from the factory... you wont look back afterwards trust me
Yeah ya can.. take off at 70mph across the big flat.. WOAH, where'd that big arse'd ditch come from?? That's the way it works or ya find 2-3 strands of barbed-wire you weren't expecting but it's those little things that make riding wild/free so much fun. peace man
I put a JD Tuner and a fast way pro moto billet end cap on my 24 ktm 500 excf and now it pops bad on deceleration when i slow up. Not sure why its doing it though?
Assuming the battery is fully charged and your spark plug is good an also tight. It's either very very lean on the fuel side. Meaning the jd isn't set properly. Or could be an air leak. Finally an exhuast leak if it's bad enough it will pop. Outside of these things possibilities could also include electrical issues with grounds, switches ect.
@fattie2550 with the Ecu and exhaust a lot more just knowing I don't need the reeds in the airbox for it to run now is a huge piece of what makes the bike better just running the exhaust not much but it does sound ok but without the other mods it backfires and most likely will burn up your exhaust valves. So you need the reeds out and smog delete and an ecu .
I just did my first oil change today. There is no short filler according to the manual and if you look at that bolt it’s only a green o ring and no place for a filter. If you even tried to put a filter there it would go into your bottom end and that would be bad bad bad.
I know the feeling. After 4 decades of owning japanese bikes with no problems when they where new, i bought a husqvarna. Now it needs 2 grand worth of parts put into it so it doesnt granade. And cost 3500 plus. Other than that these euro machines feel cheap compared to honda build quality
theres a reed in the airbox that will pop out because the shit stock tuning and backfires it makes the bike sound very loud and weird and boggy. easy fix pop off the air filter put the reed back in and the shit push in retainer and it will be back to normal or you can keep it out and the bike will run better after about an hr i took mine out of my 6 days and onve the computer figured it out it was fine
I am having the same issue I took my filter off and the reeds was just laying in the air box. I still have my 6 month warranty is it worth it to take it in Or glue it my self?
I struggled getting this to fit right on my 2024 drz. Couldn’t get either bushing in all the way, the metal sleeve one started to break and crack. It’s a good idea but the engineering on this sucks pretty bad. Same thing on the right side zip tie the holes don’t make sense
Great content 👍. How much fuel % did you add to the map to adjust for taking out the reeds, if any at all? I went up 5% seems okay but I don't have much experience. Would appreciate your advice
@@metalmotomayhem oh really? I didn't know it was set for no reeds where did you find that information? I have the sx1 also. It wasn't starting up that great but it could've just been because my TPS was 2% off. I added 5% fuel across the board and it seemed to smooth out the power delivery and improve start up but again I adjusted the TPS 2% and added fuel all in one go so I don't really know if it was one or the other that improved the performance.
I haven't changed my stock parameters sx1 ecu. Yes, it is hard starting I just put the choke on to start it for first start, and then it runs fine . I might run the other attena get ecu flat map to see if it changes for the better....
