Step back in time with the very best in classic Scottish, Traditional & Folk entertainment, from Andy Stewart and his friends of The White Heather Club.
I had the honour of pipeing Andy Stewart across the tarmac and into the Wellington Airport terminal. He was my hero, and I will never forget that. I used to sing his songs on the bus when the City of Wellington Highland Pipe Band travelled to completions around New Zealand. God bless you, Andy.❤
Exactly', it's been hellish on TV for a number of years now. High tie we all wrote a letter to the BBC tonoutbon this type of traditional hogmanay music. (Scottish Ceilidh) This day and age accordionist, Brandon McPhee is a copy of Jimmy Shand in playing his music.
I used to watch this programne without fail. I looked forward to hogmanay every year. I'd dance to the music along with the white Heather dancers on TV. Happy memories, but what has happened? Nowadays its hellish and has been for several years. 🏴
I used to watch this with my Aunty every time it was on TV. Don't get programmes like this anymore. Loved The White Heather Club. I remember tuning in for New Year with the King of Hogmany, the one and only Andy Stewart. 🏴
An hour of pure pleasure for those who admire Ian Powrie, as a real gent, and a lovely player. I,m an accordionist aged 73, and have his LPs of his iconic band. Sadly all gone, but a great legacy, and these videos are priceless. Thank you so much. Frank in Bristol.
This world is less without Andy. My Mother and i seen him live at Festival Hall in Melbourne. I can't remember the year but i've always had a place in my heart for Andy Stewart.
Lived in Malvern Johannesburg East in the 70s, we had this vynal single record, as a kid I would play it over and over again as the Scotty accent was mesmerising.
Brilliant Andy Stewart, lovely person, lovely personality, stayed humble,he wrote a song got to number 1.and it wasn't Donald where's yer troosers, Scottish soldier.
‘D’ye Mind Lang Syne‘ was a traditional song favoured by Sir Harry Lauder. Here is a quote from Andy: “I first performed this song at the Gaiety Theatre, Ayr in 1961 and in the audience was Miss Greta Lauder, Sir Harry Lauder’s niece. Immediately after the show, she came backstage to congratulate me on the performance and to tell me that ‘D’ye Mind Lang Syne’ was almost the only song her late uncle featured which was not his own composition”. Here is the 1963 studio version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q4ER_0rgyN4.htmlsi=reYYtv8PNOBD3ha7
That song from 2.44 is beautiful I've never heard it before, the tune is " do you ken John peel" but Andy Stewart singing this song is brilliant and I can't stop playing it and crying at the same time, the words are so prophetic, where can I find this song elsewhere? God bless Andy Stewart.
Absolute magic - thank you - if only we had the visual too. On a par with Charles Chilton’s docudrama about The Victory also featuring the George Mitchell Singers.
Pure read brilliant 12 perfectly performed Scottish accents and one perfect Belfast one. First time I heard it was when Andy did one hogmany at my grandma's
