I don't trim their tails, but you could if you want! The hair will grow back if you neaten it with scissors. I just don't recommend shaving any part of a silken coat. Thanks for asking!
To have cords in the hair is a multi year process. It is allowing mats to form, and then splitting and seperating the mats into cords. They must be wetted throughout the first year weekly. And after that baths can take up to an hour, with drying taking up to 12 hours behind fans. It needs as much maintenance as a brushed out coat to keep them all seperated so as no to hurt the dog. Beautiful look, but definitely a lot of work!
