Thanks.
I learned recently Alex passed away.33 year old Tennessee American and I knew his voice close to heart as a teen and inspired me to want to play&sing in his style after hearing his takes on Flower of Scotland and The 40 Twa.Unfortunately,an injury stopped that from happening.I hope his glorious soul found his way home in the end though.May his enchanting voice forever ring through the hills of his homeland.🕊⛰🏰
Here crying over the loss of the emotive Nancy the legend. Just heard her sing Across the Great Divide. Always bittersweet and heatbreaking to hear her sing. The American songbook wizard
It's artists like Nanci,Townes Van Zant,Guy Clark,Peter Rowan, and countless others, that make me appreciate, and feel fortunate that I was raised in the Lone Star state.
I grew up listening to Nanci Griffith, my dad was a huge fan. I just recently found out the she passed away. I have always loved her music. And now that both my parents have passed about a yr & a 1/2 ago, her music holds a special place in my heart & I find myself listening to her all the time now...taking me back to all those times listening when I was kid. Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with us Nanci & I know that you are singing with the angels.
It's April 29 2024 and my brother showed me this song this past weekend and as a rock musician I admire this song and style of guitar playing. Great song and songwriting that doesn't compare to todays music.
I’m sorry to have gone so many years without ever having heard of nor anything performed by Alex Beaton until 2022-23, when I ‘discovered’ his music on RU-vid. He’s the Best Scottish balladeer for English-speaking, American audiences/listeners I’ve come across to date. If there are any who’re as good, I haven’t heard them yet. The High Kings & the Celtic Thunder ensembles come to mind, certainly, but they are groups of relative youngsters & have received plenty of publicity (relatively). So have others not mentioned, but Alex Benton’s versions of traditional Celtic music have educated me, considerably. I read an account of how only Alex’s own “high endeavors” landed him the stages, the promotions, the bookings that he eventually received in his lifetime, including those he appeared-at in Georgia (concept), my own “home” state. That makes him even more remarkable as a musician and a business-savvy veteran. Though the chance to meet him personally is lost, I wish his family well. And Scotia, too, because of the goodwill engendered by his recorded music. Blessings & comfort to the bereaved. 🌷🍀🏴⚔️
Thanks for the kind words AhnRea. For more of Alex's music and extended live stage performances, check out his two Arkansas sets at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dAGGj-8L7sE.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IjUNorm97PQ.html. I will pass your kind word on to his family.
Beautiful rendition of a lovely song, and made more poignant by Nanci Griffith's untimely passing. As a side note, I wonder if I'm the only one who's noticed that this melody is the same as that of "The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond"... oh well, it's all in the Celtic Family. 😉
So up tempo and fun! ACL... what I can I as a 5th generation Texan say. P.S. If you haven't yet, listen to the original on Beggar's Banquet. Listen to the whole album, in fact.
As a singer and songwriter for many years I have been blessed with enjoying Namcy's talent to this day I still cry at our loss and the beauty of her music. ItShe changed my durection in music and I am eternally grateful. RIP Nanct you are missed and koved
