Thanks for uploading these sermons I am so blessed to be able to sit in on his preaching He continues to affect me profoundly Most of all facilitate my relationship with Jesus
Among the twelve Jesus chose - not a single woman, though many women followed more devoutly than they. The Presbuteros (elders) and the dikainos (deacons) of the church cannot be female (they must be “husbands”). There were no women preaching on the day of Pentecost (what a missed opportunity to make a statement). Women are to be honored and glorified, but it still stands that Paul taught through the Spirit, that women may not usurp that prerogative assigned to men. Period. Bailey has helped me tremendously, but his logic here has more holes than baby Swiss. Reaching is an understatement.
I came here to here about the legendary drummer. Lol this isn’t the Earl Palmer I was expecting to see. Anyone not know about Earl Palmer the drummer I recommend you look him up. He invented / played for the first time rhythms and ideas on the drums that are now so standard and taken for granted that people don’t think about where they came from and who played them first and why.
" when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world-right up to this moment" Selah said Paul the apostle
This series of talks that you have archived are a treasure. Even if one isn't a pastor, these talks, sermons, will open one to the Holy Spirit. Thank you.
Thank you for uploading these video series. Where can I get all the works of Prof. Ken Bailey🥰 I long to continue his legacy as a missionary in the Moslem World. God has called me to serving voluntarily in the Middle East➡️ as a missionary for the next 30 years of my life. His book, Jesus Through the Middle Eastern Eyes remains an indispensable resource. Shukran!❤️
I will continue to read and use "The Message;" however, any pastor that thinks that a pastor living in a pent house overlooking Central Park is a thing to be prized, I will no longer read his work or listen to his talks. The pastor should have been living in the slums of Harlem.
Thank you for your heartfelt response. You will note from the talks that Pastor Pete was as appalled in other ways. To consider:. The way of Jesus seems to call both high and low to ministry to all the world. All the world includes those of means and those without means monetarily. As well as those in the middle. The pastoral call if one works in a wealthier congregation includes teaching philanthropy and concern for the “least of these.” And then in this way those who have, can bless those who do not have. And those with power can influence structures for better futures of the powerless. As you judge another the question comes back to you, “what have you done to discern and care for those in the slums of Harlem, or your own backyard where life is hard”.
@@drjansurferman Being retired and of limited means, I still was able to house two homeless men in my modest mobile home - which I love by the way - for many months. As for helping the poor, each time I encounter those needy on the street, I run to them as if they were Jesus himself, as the Gospels instruct. I sincerely wish that I could do more, and would do so if I were able. Thanks for your reply.
@@janarmstrong3310 Thank you for your comment. But since I still have not been able to shake a habit that costs me a thousand dollars a year, I still have a long way to go: but, the journey never ends here... Thanks again...
@@charisvarnadore9862 I have been working on a course on the apostle Peter. And I continually amazed at how God uses broken people and people who make mistakes to do great things for the Kingdom.
What a great pleasure to see this video. Dr Bailey was a first rate academic and given this video is from 1982, remarkably ahead of most of his contemporaries in his view of women, always assuming the other videos stay in the same vein! Thank you for posting these hidden gems.
Women dont always have short attention spans! We cant get past this problem if we still prejudge them into a box! lol WE still have more to learn about the things they were dealing with!
Part 1 was good and I thank you for it. It stretched my understanding. But here in part 2 there is too much speculation presented as facts (e.g. the Mary and Martha story). I understand you are trying to teach from the perspective of the Middle East but the teachings of the Bible are not dependent upon ones knowledge of the culture of the Middle East 2000 years ago. The teachings of the Bible are timeless and we must attempt to understand them as teachings directed to humanity as it exists at any point in time. I had to stop listening because I am concerned that there is an agenda in your teaching that is not solely the Gospel. Not sure what the agenda is and I don’t care to listen any further to find out. Forgive me if I sound harsh but - I am drawn to your manner of speaking - but I cannot trust teachings once they go in to the territory of speculation presented as fact. It’s dangerous.
In other words what you’re saying is that the moment he pulled out the Greek text and started breaking your long established categories of thinking informed by your culture and theological tradition, then… you couldn’t continue listening!? Listen to yourself, brother. Notice how he destroys inter testamentarian traditions, Catholic and victorian tradition. Perhaps must have a second look at our long standing tradition which we thought it’s biblical. Yes, some things seemed to be concluded to quickly, but don’t call it speculation. Honest scholars are usually very careful with every statement they make, and if you’ve read his books, you could conclude he’s honest and has a solid basis to say what he says.
@John Cochran He certainly didn't instruct that, since that would contradict other places where he refers to women teaching, leading and prophesying, and as apostles.
I'm so glad you've uploaded these videos of Peterson. I am a Presbyterian minister who continues to be enriched by his work, insights, teaching, and stories.
Hollywood Presbyterian is a member congregation of the PCUSA and within that denomination would be considered an evangelical theological subset. Princeton is also related to the PCUSA, although the church is not directly related to that seminary, unless a pastor on staff matriculated there. Hope that distinction is helpful.
Dale teaches a bible Class at Hollywood Presbyterian Church, has been a teacher of Scripture at Whitworth College, in Spokan and has written a number of commentaries.
It was recorded at a christian conference. Barth and others are referred to as people who are experts in language, christian thought, and deliver their thought in writing. Never should a speaker, or theologian superceed the Scriptures, rather they help us go deep in the word. We each need Holy Spirit power to hear God speak to us. However we are 2000 years on from the Greek language and cultural understanding of the text. It is godly work to discern the voice of God in scripture and share it with others.
we make our tools, and then our tools make us. Is it possible that one of things holding us back from the future is the tools we used in the past? Buildings? Full time ministers? What is "supposed" to happen in a church service? Do these things serve us and what we want or our mission in this context? We need to ask ourselves "WHEN do we live?" And this is a different era, we are in a mission environment and we have to structure the church in ways that serve the mission John is talking about here, not getting in its way. Did Jesus know how to make disciples? How did he do it? What infrastructure did he require? Is it time to look back to Jesus as the archetypal disciple-maker, church leader? John says, "Imagine...." over and over again. But, to really imagine means starting from scratch, with EVERY possibility, possible. The problem is we can only imagine what's possible while dragging so many of our sacred cows forward with us and I'm not sure we can get to the future with that kind of baggage. Jesus, Luther, Wesley...they left BEHIND the vessel to bring forward the treasure (see Dallas Willard's "vessel trap"). John gave this talk in 2012...eight years ago. How is it going? Why is it going like that?
