I never played it so correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that link was asleep or dead for years and literally doesn’t know what’s going on. Whatever happened when he was asleep had consequences that lasted until he awakened and the “story” of the game was pretty much uncovering that mystery and learning why he should even care in the first place.
I only hate 6 things from tears of the kingdom. Sage abilities, repetitive sky islands, the depths, the inconsistent lore, the repetitive flashbacks after completing a dungeon, and the great sky island at the start of the game didn't have the same impact as the great plateau. Otherwise, it's an amazing game that i truly recommend to switch users.
we currently live in a society where if you say you hate totk but never explain you’ll get a bazillion views, but if you take time to analyse the game design and complexity of the game, you’ll only get what? one tenth of the views? absolute dogwater bullshit
At the same time tho any game series has a formula yet those aren't flawed Ex Mario, God of War etc but yet specifically Zelda is flawed Im not trying to be rude but still it doesn't really make sense to me
To be completely honest, i never really liked botw. Its atmosphere pretty much never clicked with me, and i struggled to find myself motivated enough to complete the story. But for totk, i fell in love. Especially with the similar environments. I spent countless hours simply visiting my favorite spots from botw, riding my old horse, and seeing enemies that i had literally never seen in my life, even though they had existed for a long time beforehand. To me, totk felt like the biggest upgrade from botw, both in terms of world building and atmosphere. I like the emptiness, it further emphasises the effects of the calamity, and brings forward the idea that the world is still not safe, as the upheaval proposes a threat almost as deadly as the calamity. Tis just my opinion, but i feel like filling up the lands would only take away from the idea that the calamity was a huge historical event.
@@j-schnab6338 i played through the game for the first time completely blind. flying machines weren’t even a thing i thought was possible until i cleared the main story, and i’ve had theee thoughts since then
totk was the first zelda game i played and before playing i watched a botw playthrough to learn the story as i knew it was a prequel, which may not be the same as playing the game but knowing both worlds totk did it better with the depths and the sky
@@enigma_productions1 yeah the surface changed quite a bit and it seemed less challenging with no guardians, even though gloom hands were there they were less common than guardians and easier to defeat
Thats because totk was meant to be a DLC but they decided to make it into its own game the developers have stated this. Now if it was was made as DLC they might have been able to fill up the world alot more as the base game would have still been there. To build off of.
I wouldn’t even call it nostalgia. It’s just you’ll never play BotW for the first time again and I think somewhere deep down we were hoping for it to be that.
Even with the reasons here and in the comments, I still cannot imagine having this opinion. Maybe people just got tired of the botw formula which is fair but gluey hand, fuse weapons, and zonai devices make this so much more fun than botw imo
@@gablikescoffee that’s true. i really didn’t explain my point well in this video if im being honest because the “downgrade” i was talking about was meant to be the open world, the rest of this game is such a huge improvement over botw and im sorry i didn’t explain my thoughts as well as i could and should have
I feel the same way for a different reason, even if i agree; the main change that happened is the outpost in front of the castle. This game could have used more evolution, made the sky islands bigger with more content and gave them a bigger role in the main story. The underground always looks the same anywhere you go. The main issue is that the map has barely changed, and even if the game is objectively better, it misses this "woah" effect you have once you walk off the tutorial shrine of BOTW, the game engine being the same, added to the (mostly) untouched overworld makes it less memorable, it isn't a revolution like breath of the wild was. But still, i really enjoyed totk.
@@its_michiru same, i reallly do love totk (as much as i complain about it) and i pretty much agree with all your points. i would have much rather preferred they held off totk for the switch 2 if im being honest
@@enigma_productions1 Yeah, they really could have used it as a launch title, but my theory would be that they plan on releasing Wilds in collaboration with capcom, and that would have been in conflict with totk for sales
Translation: BOTW was something new so a breath of fresh air while TOTK was similair to BOTW so it was less magical. The bosses are slightly better, a much bigger map to explore, more potential with powers and a lot more weapon potential. The only downgrade would be the sages and their powers and a story that is less impactful until the very end
@@totyo6873 yeah basically everything you say with i agree with. while i love totk, making a sequel to botw feels like dooming it to fail because half of the fun of botw was that magic in exploring things and you can’t really get that in tears because you are experiencing the same world
My problem is the world and narrative. Reusing the world was a good thought but I feel if we were to go back in time to the founding of Hyrule, we would have had a better and strong narrative that fit the game. I love seeing the "after everything" pov they give us but it just feels like the meat should have been in the past.
@@ventrillo9 100% agree. i would have much preferred a “modern day” setting and a “past” setting as the two main overworlds as opposed to the sky and underground tbh
That makes litteraly no sense. Look I agree that ToTK has something bad about it, but u can’t say botw feels empty so it’s good and then say totk feels empty so it’s bad
@@vicid1415 yes i can? maybe you didn’t understand my point but botw being so empty is good BECAUSE it’s a world that had been ruined by 100 years of war so narratively it makes sense for it to feel pretty empty. in totk on the other hand, i was looking forward to hopefully seeing some more life and a different tone set into it since this is a hyrule in its rebuilding phase. i was just very disappointed they didn’t take that route and if you weren’t then that fine but this is just my take on the matter
@@vicid1415 yeah i realize based off some of the comments that i didn’t really explain my thoughts too well here so i think ill make an addendum video to this so i can actually explain my thoughts a bit more
TotK slso has an entire underground and sky region to explore. Sure, it has problems. Lack of a Master Mode is my biggest complaint tbh. But it has better abilities than the sheikah slate did, makes every item have more than one use, and has a lot of potential if Nintendo would've supported it even a little more. In BotW, I'd say its addition of Master mode and the champ abilities (Urbosa, Daruk, Mipha) carry the game
@@dorianbeil3332 the only problem with the underground and sky is that the sky is empty outside of the starting island and the underground is just annoying to traverse. the zonai abilities in this game are far better so i’ll agree with you there
@@enigma_productions1 Tbh, I find the underground incredibly easy to traverse. In my current playthrough I went through the entire underground before I even got armor, got all 120 light roots
@@enigma_productions1 Fair enough. I can't deny though, the sky islands were a bit disappointing as a whole. Packed with shrines for how little land mass there is, but not much else beyond a few bosses and the sage boosting items
@@dorianbeil3332 yeah no they completely fumbled the sky. it’s funny because i made a video reviewing skyward sword where i talked about the sky portion of that game so when it was announced their would be a sky section of totk i was excited… only to have the same critisms of the totk sky i had of the skyward sword sky
Since it reuses the map, all the ruins that told the story of the calamity like akkala citadel and the ranch ruins just feel hollow now. The map is more of just a sandbox to use ultrahand, while in breath of the wild the placement of every small thing was a detail to enhance the feeling of a decaying Hyrule. That’s why it feels worse to me. Also it’s too easy to go around with all the towers and wings, while breath of the wild felt more peaceful when you just walk around and ride your horse. Tears doesn’t have those special “quiet” moments
@@enigma_productions1 you said the world is empty because of the fact it was in a war (which was good), and now that it's empty, you feel that's a bad thing? I get there's no "war" happening, but the world being empty can be interpreted as a metaphor for how the people of Hyrule feel without their princess.
@@zachattack762 yeah there’s no war happening so the world being empty feels more hollow then it did in botw. and chalking it up to being a metaphor is not a good excise for this
@@enigma_productions1 To be honest, I think it is just as empty as BOTW was. And I didn't get the impression that it was like that because of the Calamity War, I just thought people were dead. I didn't have nearly the same amount of wonder that I did in ToTK since I already played the entire map before, but it being empty doesn't feel right because it leaves all that empty space up to your imagination to build stuff with the ToTK mechanics. Agree to Disagree.
@@zachattack762 i can see your perspective here for sure, it just wasn’t what i personally wanted out of the game, which is totally ok! agree to disagree!
@@winzygamer7086 interesting take, why do you think it is that they are meant to feel hallow? because to me i was hoping to see almost a hyrule renaissance in this game where i wanted to see the people thriving and much more spread out and just more lovely after botw had it so empty (which like i said added to the ambiance of the game)
@@enigma_productions1 I think part of it could be your expectations being that when they made the game before they were thriving. As ToTK added a continued threat all while the people are still trying to rebuild now that they have a Royal Family again and not being able to get too far
Honestly for me I think it’s nostalgia. ToTK is objectively better mechanically, but I got BoTW and a switch for Christmas when I was 12- so the game almost always feels better to play
@@ObeliskDemon everyone? Well that's just wrong because I never had a problem with any of the games before BotW and last I checked I'm part of everyone. Personally I preferred the more "formulaic" games to the open world "go anywhere and do anything" Also TotK is a very measurable upgrade mechanically, the interface with the menus is certainly smoother and more optimal. The fusion system for weapons is like a chef's kiss on top of the combat system that was already good. All the powers are better. Zonai devices, pony points, Hudson construction and on and on. So many additional things improved the gameplay from moment to moment. Only thing I miss is the Mastercycle at this point.
@@mrmrflamingo6601 i respect that, for this video i mainly meant that the open world feels like more of a downgrade. i would definitely agree that gameplay wise, pretty much everything is improved in totk
I think they should have added a boss rush, like you could ho bavk into the castle and activate a machine that si.ulated all the boss battles and then an extra challange at the end
@@DuskMindAbyss yeah thats unfortunately true, when i saw they were doing the sky again in totk i was excited for them to finally get it right… and they missed the mark again
the problem still exists in totk, ( still waiting for the dlc :/) i think if they release a new zelda game with similar open world mechanics, it would be the perfect occasion to take inspiration from monster hunter (using this exemple because i'm a lot into world lately lol) by showing us exclusive post game bosses, or even like a new power giving us access to a new region about the size of what a tower scans where we have very powerful and unforgiving monsters with loot to have fun with (like after you beat the "final boss" you could get some very strong fusion material that would create a comically large explosion blowing up entire enemy camps)
@@enigma_productions1 zelda but you unlocked MH's master rank, honestly i could buy a dlc 40$ for an extension pack like iceborne or elden ring's dlc with new maps, new storyline, monsters, bosses and an increase in difficulty
@@enigma_productions1 true, but nintendo recently announced a much more different game that what we are used to, and i'm hoping this is a transition to a nintendo willing to experiment more, like with a really challenging zelda game
It’s more because after you defeat Ganon the monsters don’t really make sense that they would still exist and by defeating Ganon (that’s the main goal) you basically beat the game but you miss out on A LOT of cool things.
@@Lauren-bm3nv yeah that’s true. honestly i think i just wanted more and more of this game and realizing that it was over with just a simple reset back to right before was really disappointing to me
It makes me the most sad in totk, as it is the end of the wild timeline/series. And Zelda will never be saved, she's stuck in this endless loop every time you beat Ganon. Stuck as a dragon forever.
@@senordinkus yeah and that’s a huge issue with those games as well. i opted to mainly focus on botw here because this is where i think it’s most egregious
@@enigma_productions1 Asking cause you set the tone like the old games did, lol Don't know if I would call it an issue really. They had a story to tell and they told them. What would post-game content look like in any of these?
@@senordinkus ah i didn’t mean to misconstrue like the old games did i’m sorry. for a post game i would just want like one or two side quests afterwards that help rebuild some parts of the destroyed hyrule. one idea i had was maybe like a mini tarry town esque quest where you build up the foundations of what would become lookout landing. nothing too spectacular, just something new unlocked really
@@enigma_productions1 nah you're cool man, mistakes happen lol. Killing off the leftover monsters or another terry town would be a banger. Absolutely my favorite and I dropped everything I was doing to finish it 😆
@@senordinkus yeah tarrey town was easily the best side quest i think really is i just love this game and wanted to keep playing it so the reality of it being over was sad
Because it revolutionized the idea of 'Open World' gaming, which is a huge trend that has spawned countless masterpiece of games. I would say every open world game since 2017 has taken influence from it and adapted parts of it. I think that makes it eligible for that status in my opinion, but I probably should have specified that instead.
