Built by a nouveau-riche knight from the 100 Years War on the proceeds of loot and ransom. Far more for show than defence because the cannon of its time would have made short work of its thin walls, particularly if attackers were on the hill that overlooks it. It was surrendered when besieged in 1483, probably because its defenders knew its weaknesses.
Such a great think to see Iv been in a few subs over the years but I always come to the same thought is wether I could stick my mother in law on the end of one of those torpedoes 😂 Seriously great vid though 👍
Good to see someone excited to watch some karting. looks to me like this was a practice day (presumably friday or saturday) so you'd be a bit more entertained on a sunday championship race day when tensions are high and we all get our elbows out. Don't be afraid to integrate with the paddock a bit normally a really friendly bunch, if you get a chance the best place for it is the retro kart championship 👍
Love this sweet little tour. Thank you for taking your viewers with you!! My family and I are planning a trip to England in September of 2025. We are very excited to your places off the beaten path such as the one you shared with us today.
Ye Olde Pump House is NOT the oldest in Hastings, nowhere near, despite its old appearance! It was opened as a pub in 1956. Otherwise, a great video, thanks for coming down and doing it, and thanks for posting it.
@@MattAllch-England well that’s a start but there are many amazing things to see and do. And as your own personal guide I know the town like the back of my hand. Smugglers and pirates await you. Arrrr
No trsearch into the aryistic culturr apart the jazz festval. The town is famous for its medieval architecture which commentrd on. The town was home to many writers and film makers most famously 'Mapp and Lutia' series.
Aww! I used to walk that path daily in the 80's, it's not changed. Cheers for putting this up. Was also either an angel or shepherd in the school plays in the church ❤
No, that's rubbish. It was Anne Boleyn's childhood home Anne spent several of her childhood years in Hever Castle with her siblings Mary and George. Thanks to a close diplomatic relationship between Thomas Boleyn and Margaret of Austria, a twelve-year-old Anne Boleyn was sent abroad to join Margaret's royal court.21 May 2022 Hever Castle, had belonged to Anne's family since 1462. You are so ignorant. Do try to read history books!
Hever Castle was most certainly NOT the "home" of Henry VIII (your unfortunate misleading video title), it was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. It is thought that H8 stayed there several times when courting Anne, hence one of the largest of the bedchambers currently designated as likely used by him. After the death of Anne B's father Thomas, Hever came into the possession of H8 when he purchased it from the late Thomas' brother James. H8 then bestowed it upon his ex-wife Anne of Cleves, who lived there only occasionally.
Why is this titled as the Home of Henry VIII????? This was Anne Boleyn's family home. It is a horrible spite to term it as Henry's home when it was her family's home. Simply reprehensible to Anne's memory.
Henry actually owned Penshurst place in 1533 It is approximately 5 miles frome heaver Castle so to be fair to the creator of this video he has captured the ambiance of Kent and has provided an entertaining and informative video of life not long after the dark ages.
I dont know why this video was recommended to me but Im glad it was. I got to take an interesting tour hosted by an enthusiastic British man from the comfort of my phone. Well done👍
