We love your channel and have enjoyed watching all of the "older" episodes. I have 3 children, we have always home schooled, I have a daughter that has graduated and 2 still at home. My son likes to watch your videos with me. We would love to be able to send you some mail. If you could share how we could mail you things, thanks!
my 12 year old son and I love watching your channel! I am a home schooling mom of 3. We especially love the day in the life posts and the posts that show life in cambodia.
Looks great! I like the drawers I can see they slide smoothly. Your husband did a great job. Congratulations on your new renovated homeschool. Blessings on the new homeschool year!
I have the Gather Round Growing Up With God. We are planning on doing it this year. I haven’t figured out how long it will take yet. I do really like how she approaches this subject and the different levels.
This is so helpful for more ideas! We are doing Heart of Dakota Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory and I love it, but I want to add more Bible. I, too, have twin boys! They are only 13 months old though. My older two are 4 (boy) and 7 (girl) and your channel has been so helpful for my preschooler and 2nd grader to give me more ideas.
HBL C starts children and parent Bible reading, but I’m using B with my 3rd grader so I found a children’s reading plan online for her to follow this year. My older kids are reading though the Bible chronology with the Bible Recap.
My rising first grader is big on memorizing too. I was going to do sight word flash cards this year too and I randomly said let's go through these sight word cards. He knew every single sight word. I'm not sure if he could read them or had them all memorized. 🤷
Whenever I feel overwhelmed, and that homeschooling is so hard. I stop to think about families like yours, who do this overseas without all the resources we have in the U.S., and it is very humbling and encouraging! Thank you for sharing.😊
In kindergarten we read all the P and PreK books. My daughter’s favorites were The Child’s Book of Virtures, Milly Molly Mandy Story Book, Uncle Wiggly, the Art book, and Wny do Tigers Have Stripes.
We love CLE math. We will use 1st, 3rd, 5th and Algebra from CLE this year. I will be pairing it with Sonlight’s HBL K for my 1st grader and HBL B with my 3rd grader.
We're doing IEW and TGTB this year also. I'm doing the Teaching Writing course but I've heard people say you can just watch the videos with your kids because he explains it all. I loved seeing all those books! How fun! ❤️ Praying y'all have a wonderful school year friend.
This was a really nice video. I really liked your reasons for literature based learning, you put it into words so eloquently. We have just started back, and are using Bookshark History C, Sonlight la 4 and Sonlight Science C.
Thanks so much for the review. We just finished B, and the exp sheets were nice and thick too. Our new science C, the science exp sheets are tihin paper l, like the activity sheets, which was a little disappointing for the reasons you mentioned, like spills not damaging the sheets.
My suggestion for IEW writing course is to take it slowly! Like over two years, mix in some creative writing and fun writing like write letters to a pen pal or write a short kids book. My daughter is very creative and used to love to write. We did one year of IEW 1B and she now hates to write. So slow and steady and mix in the fun writing along the way to keep it not so structured and boring
Thank you for this tip! I have a soon to be 4th grader who loves to write creatively and I was thinking of implementing IEW but mixed in not a total deep dive.
I felt the same way about the green God’s Design for Sex book for my ten year old. We just did the yellow book and I’m going to hold off on the next one til sixth grade.
Sorry I can't give any advice about the Gather round books, but regarding IEW, I have taught IEW at our homeschool Co-op and it is an awesome program. It eliminates the problem that a lot of kids have about know what to write about. Its a great program. If you every have any questions, I would be glad to talk to you about it. :)
Growing up with God is GREAT! We did level 1 before moving on to The Talk series. I’d recommend starting there. I’m saving the God’s Design book you have for 6th grade because the topics are heavy, like you said. My son just turned 11.
We are going to read some of the same books that you have there with the History Literature program we are going to be using. Great selection of books. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Lots of great resources! I just bought the teacher’s training videos from IEW to go along with Structure and Style. We started the course when my son was in third grade and are going to finish it this coming year for fifth grade. I think there is a lot more covered in the teacher’s course than is covered if you just watch the Structure and Style videos with your kids. It’s also less time to watch the teacher’s videos than the kids videos every week.
I haven’t used Not Consumed or the Gather Round. My twins are also going into 5th grade. I’m planning to use the Maturation Unit from TGTB and doing the Good Pictures, Bad Pictures and possibly adding in a couple of the Luke Gilkerson books. I’ve heard that series you weren’t sure about is pretty advanced for the ages recommended. There’s also books I’ve heard recommended called Growing Up God’s Way for girls and Growing Up God’s Way for boys. My boy twin has dyslexia and is still struggling with reading, so I completely understand the proud mom moments over them reading! Even just when he reads road signs or the back of the cereal box etc. I’m like yes we are going to get there someday. I would love any content surrounding learning disabilities and teaching them tools to help them for life.
Thats great you have twins going into 5th grade. I forgot that TGTB has a Maturation Unit, I'll have to look into that one. It sounds like you have some good choices lined up. Thats interesting you've heard that one series I mentioned is pretty advanced. I'm thinking I might wait on it. And yay for proud mom moments when a child with dyslexia is reading something because they want to. Any progress is so rewarding! I'd love to create a video around learning disabilities. I'm not sure what, I'll think about it.
Great video! So, we are moving to Bolivia for 6 months to a year, my daughter would of been in 2nd grade here in the USA, what are my homeschool options? Schools start in February in Bolivia, I don't want to have her miss a grade
I would recommend checking out homeschool curriculum. There is lots of videos about homeschool curriculum choices on RU-vid. I'd recommend start researching with 'The good and the Beautiful'.
New subscriber here! So many amazing books 😍 I’m adding several to my wish list! I just posted my summer read-aloud picks to my (brand new 😅) channel, and Prudence and the Millers is one of books we’ll be reading 😊
I definitely added some of those books to our list! I went to Sonlight and got our summer reading challenge and our kids are excited! I'm rediscovering Sonlight becasue of your videos and strongly concideing Sonlight's pre-k program!
Mondays are rough for us too! I have twins (boy/girl) that finished 4th grade this past school year. The twin boy has dyslexia so it’s been a very slow reading journey for him, but we keep working on it. I’m confident that he will get there! Sounds like your boys are doing great now!
