Does anyone know if there is an upload of the Brahms FMaj or Bach Tortelier masterclass here on RU-vid? I’ve looked but 🤷🏼‍♂️

His ability to describe in Metaphor seems to be on a par with his playing - I absolutely love how he talks. Thank you so much for uploading, so much to learn from these.

I wonder why she bothered to turn up if she’s going to be so narky and ego bruised about it. It’s a masterclass, he’s the master (student of Hekking, no less!) she isn’t. The young woman is lucky to have had the opportunity. He’s stone cold dead now. Too bad for the rest of us.

He played a minor chord instead of a major chord in one of the harmonically most climactic moments of the whole work. I'd have winced too. 🤣

I can't believe that M. Tortelier played this apparently very difficult passage with the other two cellists while conducting in 3 with his head and didn't miss a nuance!!

I am Rodney Greenberg. I directed and produced 4 Tortelier Masterclasses at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 1985 and previously a series of six at the BBC TV studios in 1973. Nice to see them still going strong on RU-vid.

Very interesting masterclass, IMHO (I'm not a cellist). And (contrary to what +Michael Martin says) IMO he's right about her vibrato. Strange that apparently none of her previous teachers had corrected her... I've watched a masterclass by Janos Starker in which he had to teach the right position of her disciple's left hand so that she could achieve a correct vibrato. And she wasn't a beginner either...
