Good afternoon and happy Wednesday! I'm sorry people were rude to you about your Sew What overview video. I thought it was quite interesting and informative, and it's not like anyone forced them to watch it. The tote bag turned out quite nice, didn't it? Dandelion Stitches' box came with the red fabric rather than the pink, and while I do prefer the red, the pink isn't as frou-frou as I feared it would be. The bookmark is pretty as well. Tying the bag closed looks a little awkward; perhaps a magnetic snap would be a better choice. Still, the tie is functional and cute so no complaints. For all that the tote looks so small, it certainly holds a good-sized book! Or you could get a paperback, a PB & J, and maybe even a bag of chips in there. I could see taking this to the beach, the park, down to the pool if you're in a hotel (or are lucky enough to have a pool of your own), even to a doctor's office so you have something to read while waiting. 24:49 I literally gasped and said, "Oh, MYYYYYY!" The first tote is lovely, but this one blows it out of the water. The colors, the pattern, and do my eyes deceive me, or is that fabric textured?? And the brown works so perfectly with it; it almost has green undertones that come out when paired with the stripes. Really love how it and the reversed version turned out (I'm a *huge* fan of fraternal twin projects). Also great score on the floral; that was a lucky no-buy find for sure! And yes, done up in a "spoopy" print, this pattern would be a perfect trick-or-treat bag for little ones. ❤🖤💜🎃

I'm getting used to the negative comments, it comes with being on the internet. It's just so weird to comment that a video was too long when they were the one that chose to click on it. I only said something because I had just seen it, hidden on someone else's comment, and it annoyed me. I'm glad you like the bag and enjoy the alternative ones I made. I've had that fabric for around a year and was just waiting for the perfect project. It is slightly textured and a heavier weight drapery/upholstery fabric so it is a joy to work with. I thought about the ties too, but then I figure they work better than a snap in case you put in a larger book. I figure the ties will grow more supple as they are used. Glad to hear you think it'll work as a little bag. I get a lot of little kids on my street because there is a lovely loop they can take and be safe, there are about 70 houses they can go to without any crossing any major streets or back tracking. We see about 100 kids and more than half are under 8. They look so awkward holding out their giant trick or treat bags or their little plastic pumpkins.

Good morning and happy Tuesday! Tula Pink makes such fun fabrics, with such amazing color combos. Tabby Road is a fantastic collection, and the solids are just perfect (notice I avoided the obvious pun there) to go with the prints. The cats in the bushes print is the best fabric of course, but I am jonesing for the cat-eye print. It would be an awesome cloth for our levitating table at Halloween (although I can't justify paying that price for something that will be ruined by the end of the haunt season). Even the cat-food cans are cute, and the stripes oh my gods it's just so so pretty. The geometric print would make a great skirt if you had enough of it. And then of course the patterns they included are wonderful, too. SIDENOTE - I think the little bit of scrap you have left from the Sewers Club boxed bag that used Tula Pink would go really well with this collection. As for the patterns, they're both excellent. The kittens in cups would be delightful as a throw cushion or table runner. The iron carry case is quite nice; even if one doesn't travel with their iron often, it would be good to have something to help protect it from bumps & spills. Plus with the handle, one could hang it from the bottom of a shelf and keep it out of the way when not in use. Of the two, the kittens in cups is the one I'd like to see the most. Wanna hear something insane? The first few times I saw Tula Pink fabrics, I hated them with the fierceness of a thousand burning suns (I know, right??). I thought the color palettes were garish and the prints were ridiculous and I couldn't imagine why anyone wanted them. Then I saw Chubby Cheeks in yellow and pink, and my brain went "OHHHHHHHH *now* I get it!" and I am in love with them.

I immediately thought poodle skirt for the cat eyes with a rainbow petticoat, but I can see table decor too! I am super tempted to go nuts and order the geometric fabric for a three tiered peasant maxi dress I bought a pattern for last year and haven't made yet. ( Chalk and Notch - Shay) I looked at the iron case pattern for next week but it is complicated and requires a few supplies like mesh webbing that I don't have, but i plan on definitely making it in the future. I too wasn't sure what all the hype was about, but the blenders that they released really spoke to me, the stripes, polka dots and especially the fairy dust series. I enjoyed it from afar but knew I had to buy when something when I saw this collection was neon cats. Like, come on, it was made for me.

I'm going to try really hard to get through an hour long video in less than six hours, LOL! First off, I'm really glad you did a thorough overview of the company, including a reminder on what projects you received. It's hard to remember six months down the line what came in the first box, so that was very helpful. The little coin wallet must have made an impression on my subconcious, though, because I recently bought a fat quarter of that very fabric. (I must say that while yes, it's all from JoAnn and yes, there were too many repeats, they did at least choose *pretty* prints. I did think that you put a rather **pointed** emphasis on the phrase "bird fabric" but thought it might be my imagination since, well, you know. So I played it back for my other half and after listening he said, "She's not sure about the bird fabric..." LOL). Seeing all the finished pieces together like this also made it obvious that you definitely got a good variety of projects, which I hadn't really noticed seeing them month by month. (Time check: 15 minutes of video has taken me 38 minutes of watching, pausing, discussing with my other half, and typing. Hmmmm.) There really does seem to be a lot of good things about this subscription: the thorough tutorials, the different skill sets, the variety in the type of projects they send. From what I've seen in your earlier videos combined with this more thorough overview, it seems like their greatest flaw is that the company is OK with sending out kits that are, well, just OK. The wallet is nice, but when you folded up the edge I went, "OH! That IS a lot nicer!" The baskets would be just a little better if they'd included a stiffer interfacing. And, well, you already know my opinion on the precuts that aren't cut to the correct size so I won't say anything more about that. (Time check: 29 and half minutes in, 1 hour 27 minutes watching/pausing etc. Hmmmmmmmm.) (OH! Sidenote, I made some baskets recently similar to these, and the calculation for length of the side piece is: (D * 3.14159) rounded to the nearest 1/8", where D is the diameter of the base minus twice the seam allowance. Yeah, I made myself a cheat sheet so I don't have to calculate it every time.) Ouch on the "gift" offers! My pet peeve is when a company says "free gift!" because it's redundant. But claiming something you have to *purchase* is a gift is outrageous. That isn't just bad marketing, it's deceptive. The fake unboxing would annoy me, too. I was a little surprised in the beginning when you said there would be a section comparing the box to Sewers Club, because hoo boy that seems unfair. Man, talk about comparing apples to oranges! But then I thought, they're about the same price for the same basic type of product (ie a project kit) so maybe it's not such an unfair thing to do after all. And then you mentioned that Sew What has been around longer than SC, so yeah. It is fair to compare the two. You did a good job on that, no need for my comments (is there ever a need for my long-winded comments? Probably not) other than to say yeah, that is a HUGE difference in quality. Thank you for posting the overview. I think you did a good job being honest & unbiased in covering both the good and the bad, and in explaining what you felt could be done to correct the issues. Overall, I'm in agreement with your assessment: it's a great idea that was poorly done. Time check: I'm at the end of the one-hour video, and it only took me ::looks at clock:: two hours and nineteen minutes. To be fair, I did also look something up for my other half ("Since you're online anyway....") and took a quick break to brush my teeth, LOL.
@fredmakesthings
@fredmakesthings 3 дня назад
I'm really happy you made it through the entire video, I was actually thinking of you when I saw I hit an hour. I was worried you would lose your entire day to it. I didn't realize that I had such a variety of projects until I started compiling them and comparing them. I'm glad I took notes, I think it helped me see some of the positives. I do like the bird fabric, but if I'm honest, I'm just tired of looking at it 😁 As for SC, they do have a similar product and price point, so I think it is fair to compare them, but I did think twice about including it because I didn't want it to seem that I was doubling down on the box. In the end, I did have similar projects, so I thought I would share it, especially since I gear so much of my content to Sewers Club. Thank you for watching and writing, I enjoy reading your essays. Sometimes it takes a minute to respond, but I appreciate how well thought out they always are. ❤️

Those massive leaps is due to the lack of sewing skills from owner / person who makes tutorials. You can tell from samples how wonky they are. Pre cut pieces are not accurate. Why pay extra for them , just teach how to cut them

I never thought of it that way, but you may have a point. It did seem weird to be so specific with some steps while completely skipping over other, more complicated ones.

Are all the measurements in inches and yards given that this originates in Canada?
@fredmakesthings
@fredmakesthings 7 дней назад
Great question! Yes, they are. Many patterns in Canada have both inches and centimeters to accommodate the US/Canada market. It’s really common in Canada to also leave the metric measurements out, in favour of imperial. It’s a quirk left over from the transition in the 70’s/80’s. We measure height and weight in imperial as well, but are pretty good at quick conversion and understanding the differences. Just don’t get me started on temperature or distance. 😁

It’s not traditionally directional, but in my mind it sort of is because it only looks nice in one orientation. Like I couldn’t rotate it and still have it look nice.

Good morning and happy...let's see, yesterday was street sweeping so that makes today Wednesday. Happy Wednesday! The temperature quilt is looking more beautiful all the time. I love the orange/pink section - the colors look so good together - but I shudder to think how hot y'all must be! Talk about suffering for your art, LOL. It's really going to be stunning when it's finished. Are you going to add a border to it, or just binding? The block of the month squares are pretty, too, even if that one went a bit wonky. Liz's quilt is absolutely amazing! So many colors without any clashing, and the points & lines are sheer perfection. It must have taken ages to get it all done.

Thank you 😊 the pattern calls for a border with flying geese but depending on how much fabric I have leftover and how big it turns out to be, I’m considering doing some type of thin rainbow border too. What is your camera setup? I have wanted to do cross stitch time lapse videos forever. I’ve tried a few tripods and stands but nothing really works. Also, which time lapse app do you use?
@fredmakesthings
@fredmakesthings 12 дней назад
I use my iPhone on a floor stand designed to hold phones and tablets. Mine has a 360 degree swivel and adjusts in several places. You can find it, and similar items on amazon for around $30. As for filming, I use the time lapse setting on my phone for big projects (something consisting of several hours at once) and I stop the time lapse every 30 minutes or so, I then compile them into one video with my editing software. For shorter time lapses, less than an hour or so, I just record like usual and then speed the video up when editing. I like the time lapse setting because it works out to about an hour a minute.

For me this is more like a book cover than a tote - I would use this for my bible & papers to take to church. I think of a book tote for library books or shopping at the book store. Cute project and the fabrics are really nice. So the notions part is the needle holder and point turner? Certainly got your moneys worth there and for the main project. Thanks for sharing!

Good morning and happy Hump Day! Hope everyone has a day that they can handle. In regards to the actual project, I really like this one. The bag is just the right size for a paperback & a snack. Using a textured fabric combined with the quilting cotton is a big "Yes, please!" for my tactile heart. Having two different prints adds to the visual appeal as well. The clip-on charm and label give just a bit of "oomph" to the finished bag. As if that weren't enough, there's the matching bookmark as well. This would make a lovely gift. As for the fabrics, well. Objectively yes, pastel pink & mint green go well together, but it's just a little too frou-frou for my taste. If this were mine, I'd use the green and replace the florals with fat quarters from my stash. Well. It took me literally 2 hours to watch the whole 17 minute video and type this little comment, because I kept pausing to look more closely at the contents, and compare one of my fat quarters to the green to see if they'd look good together, and pop over to the Sewers Club website, then backing up the video a bit to see the finished size of the bag...
@fredmakesthings
@fredmakesthings 15 дней назад
I nearly spit my drink out while waiting on Juniors check up when I saw it took you so long to finish the video, you could have just asked me for dimensions and colour comparisons. I still can if you like. The colours look so good in real life and the green, while still mint, leans a tiny bit warm and blue rather than yellow, if that helps. Navy might actually be really striking actually, I'll have to test that out after dinner.

@@fredmakesthings While two hours is extreme even for me on such a short video, the pausing, rewinding, popping over to a relevant website, etc are typical. Happy Tuesday! Ah, it must be so hard to give up a cat after nearly a year, even if one goes into it knowing you're just a temporary parent. I'm not sure I could do it, truth be told. I hope Star will be happy in her forever home. Hmmm. Looks like they have a new person filling out the "in this box" card. (Ha, and 3 minutes later you say the same thing.) They'll have to learn to write smaller, LOL! I'm guessing they're so busy now that they had to hire extra help, which can only be a good thing. Also it's weird that your fabrics came in a plastic envelope & not a box. Mine have always come in a box, even when they stopped doing the custom made ones. Well, we seem to have different opinions this time. I love this one! To me it's such a great selection; there isn't a single piece in there that I dislike - no, not even the toffee crimp, although I wouldn't pair that one with the dandelion stipple for obvious reasons, LOL. It does look good with the swirly yellow for sure. Needless to say the lime stipple is my favorite, no surprise there, but what *is* a surprise is how much I like the navy floral. It's more sophisticated, if you will, than your average floral - not a bit frou-frou - and the bouquets look so good against that dark blue hatched background. It pairs remarkably well with the thrift shop yellow piece (which in and of itself is such a fun print; has sort of a "groovy 60s" vibe to it), and I think it would also look good with the dahlias. (Combine them with a cream, and they'd make a lovely not-in-your-face-patriotic 4th of July table runner.) I can't speak for everyone, but I love having a bonus video (especially since it's Sewers Club, always a treat). Seeing all these lovely fabrics makes me want to go sew. My HST dog blanket is still in timeout, so maybe I'll finish up my new handbag. Or make some more scrappy squares. Or start a whole new project using some of the few brights that are in my stash (I adore bright colors, yet somehow end up buying mostly darks, lights, and neutrals, I do not understand that at all). Yes, that last one sounds very appealing!

Hello! It is hard but I tell myself that I am only the temporary bridge to her new and perfect family. Doesn't stop me from bawling my eyes out and missing her though. I had an update from Stars adopter and she said that Star immediately curled up with her daughter and slept with her the first night, so she's doing much better than I am 😊 edited to add, I have never received SB in a box, I've seen others get it that way, but I wonder if it''s because I only get 10. I also think that not only was there someone different writing the cards, but also someone new selecting and packing it. It'll be interesting to see what next month brings. If it's a new hire, then I am so happy that they are expanding, I love seeing small businesses thrive. I'm glad the colours speak to you! That navy floral is quite striking, it reminds me the printed skirts I wore in the 90s, I'm beginning to think about making a vintage inspired project line using some of the prints that work together, like the navy and thrift shop yellow, I think I could get something really cool out of it. Not as cool as a 4th of July table runner, but still pretty fun. I too love bright fabrics, I gravitate to them all the time, but find I wear mostly neutrals, which I never buy fabric for. Thinking of my vintage thoughts, I too, am now inspired to scrap all the plans I've made and concentrate on that. But first, editing tomorrow's video, feeding the kitten his last round of medication and maybe going to bed.
@susanowen1709
@susanowen1709 17 дней назад
Happy Monday! OK, I'm 17 seconds into the video and I'm absolutely enchanted with the box. The "blep" of the middle kitten on the left, the little can of fishy catfood, the "who, me?" expression of the cat with the ball of yarn that you just know he stole from the knitting project bag. And the box-turned-into-a-cat logo is both cute and clever. Anyway. Off to watch the rest of the video now. This looks like a really good box. I like that everything in it is for the cats; the t-shirt & water bottles that you get with Cat Lady are nice, however if I'm getting a "fun for your pets" box I'd expect everything to be for the pets. It looks to be good value, too, with the multiple toys, bag of treats, bag of catnip, plus all the costs that go into putting the box together. Having a choice between monthly or bi-monthly is a plus, since people with lots of cats might want more toys/treats than someone who only has one or two kitties. This first box is definitely a winner! Now to see if the Furry Overlords agree, LOL. And two Sewers Club videos pending! I am excited for those for sure. I don't get another Stash Builder until next month (and they always come near the end of the month) so it's good that I can live vicariously through you & Dandelion Stitches during the "dry" months.

It is a really cute box. I didn't even notice it when I was filming. It is a pretty good box so far, I too like that it is solely for cats. I like Cat Lady because I get to have cat themed stuff for me, but I'm happy with my little break so far. I'm excited to see what September brings. So far everyone has liked something in the box, I was so surprised Miles (my 19lb garbage disposal) turned his nose up at the treats. Now to edit my SC videos. Good morning and happy Wednesday! Excited to see a non-Sewers Club project to shake things up a bit :-) I like the *idea* of this pattern, but I'm not sure how I feel about the finished product. The photo on the pattern is a bit deceptive, since you really don't/can't get a sturdy, squared-off bag using fleece. A somewhat stiffer batting would give it a bit more shape, however it looks like a perfectly serviceable bag so I'm not going to get too big of a bee in my bonnet over that. A piece of fabric-covered cardboard could easily be set inside the bag to keep the bottom from sagging, after all. (Ha - and I'm now in the pros & cons section of the video, and you address this very issue.) I like the straps, even if the construction seems a bit fussy. I definitely like the fabrics you chose (despite the lack of greens, LOL). Normally I enjoy doing quilt-as-you-go, however I've always done small projects with a separate lining, so there's no quilt lines on the lining & no exposed raw edges (so unprofessional!) or binding (such a PITA!). Having the lining quilted along with the front is attractive, no doubt about that, but is it worth the loss of a pocket if one does Option A as written? (Obviously it isn't, since you added one 😜) Overall, I'd say this is a good project with the potential to be awesome with a few tweaks.
@fredmakesthings

I like the idea of fabric covered cardboard, it would probably make it easier to fill up. It can hold quite a bit, as my Insta post reflects 😁I'm also sorry I didn't add any green, I should have thought about you in my planning, but this is so reflective my natural colour inclination that green didn't even occur to me. For the price, I would have expected more from this project, but I definitely plan on making more of these in the future.

Your basket turned out pretty nice. The quilting looks great! I've heard of the tape method of quilting but haven't tried it myself; good to see that it really does work. The basket is a very usable size, and appears to be quite sturdy. I like that you put the label higher than in the demo pic; it just looks right closer to the brim in my not-so-humble opinion. Sewers Club always has such good patterns, and this is definitely one of their better ones ("Best of the best of the best, SIR!") I realized while watching today that the instructions have drawings rather than photos, and yet I'm not bothered by that even though I am annoyed by the drawings in the Sew What instructions. I think it's because the SW drawings look like rough drafts/sketches, whereas the SC ones are done with precision; you can actually see what it's going to look like using the materials provided. Hope everyone has a lovely Friday 🙂

Sorry I'm so late to respond, my weekend also became crazy! I'm hoping your convention is going well. I really like the quilting on this basket too, I think I am going to do this method on smaller projects a lot more often. The tape also held up for the entirety of each piece, so I only used 4 pieces for everything, so it wasn't super wasteful. I like the label placement too but it still counts as user error 😁SC has always used drawn diagrams but they look drafted, well planned and nicely placed, so it makes sense in the pattern. It's the hand drawn that gets me.

thank you ❤️ I will say that I also had difficulty with the screws at first, but I used the awl to make sure I pierced all the fabric in the same place and then I used snips to widen the hole a tiny bit. I was very cautious with my cuts so it did take me some time. The whole project took me just over 5 hours and I'd say the screws were about an hour of that time.

The concept of this box is good . Unfortunately the instructions have lack of technique, which a beginners needs for a growing foundation. Videos lack of attention to detail which that is a key element for a good end a product . My opinion as a past subscriber , owner needs to take sewing classes .

Good morning and happy Last Sew What Project Review Monday! I appreciate that you plan on giving the subscription as a whole a good think-over, with a final overall review pending. That seems like a very fair thing to do, and I look forward to seeing the video when it is ready. This looks like it would be good for a beginner to try, but for more experienced sewists it might be a little boring to make. I feel as though the finished project looks...well, unfinished. Some batting & quilting as @lizwarnke4689 suggested would help immensely, as would a border. I'm envisioning making a border out of the some of the red fabric, the same width as the strip pieces, then a second border (same width) in the background material, and finally a nice binding in the dark blue. Not only would that jazz up the front a bit, it would add some interest to the otherwise very plain back. It reminds me of a beginner's cookbook that I have ("The Can't Cook Book: Recipes for the Absolutely Terrified!" by Jessica Seinfeld): it's a good starting point, and a good way to dip your toe in the pool if you have no clue what you're doing, but the final product is definitely lacking in spices. I agree with you that the drawings rather than photos for the instructions & "this is what it will look like" picture is annoying. It seems very unprofessional, and it makes me wonder if they actually stitched one up before sending out the boxes. This is complete conjecture on my part, so take it with a grain of salt: I think that printing the instruction cards has a longer lead time than making the tutorial, so they shipped them off to the printer before actually sewing up the table runner. While it's also unprofessional to have the uneven cuts in the tutorial, you gotta admit that at least it matches the reality of what was in the box. I think the word you were looking for in regards to interfacing on the pieced section is "stablization." Hope you had a wonderful birthday! 🎂🎉 BTW, I'm going to be extremely busy starting on Wednesday *very* early in the morning until mid-morning on Monday, so I won't have time to watch any videos during that time. Didn't want you to think I'd abandoned your channel, LOL.
@fredmakesthings
@fredmakesthings Месяц назад
What do you mean my videos are not your everything? 😁 Thank you for “stabilization” it was indeed the word I was looking for. I would think that since they started this subscription back in 2018(?), it’s older than Sewers Club, they’d have their back end production down but what you’re saying makes sense. As for the project, some batting and quilting would definitely improve the look. I bit more ironing on my part might help too. Stopping the cats from snuffling in my finished projects would help too. Anyways, I hope your busy-ness is a good one and not a bad one. It’s been crazy for me since a sick kitten literally walked into my house last week. I look forward to your next comment, whenever that happens to be 😊

I was looking for someone who did covers for this exact chair! I refuse to pay almost 1/2 the cost of the chair just for removable covers. Your cushions turned out great! As someone who has no sewing skills whatsoever, I would've liked to see that part of your process (ASMR anyone?), but that's okay. Keep up the awesome work!
@fredmakesthings
@fredmakesthings Месяц назад
Thank you 😊 I wish I had the set up for ASMR, maybe if my channel grows enough I could invest in some equipment 😁 The covers themselves weren’t too difficult, especially if you don’t include the curve on the bottom cushion. It’d be labor intensive without a sewing machine, but pretty easy with one if you can sew a straight line. Feel free to email me and I can help you through the steps if need be!

Baroo? I thought I sent in projects for June, but perhaps you didn't receive them. I'll send some later today; maybe you can have a community update in August, even if it's just one person LOL. Those temperatures are insane! Your inside temps are higher than our outside temps, and that's saying quite a bit since I can literally drive a couple hours and be in the desert. It's generally quite warm here. On the plus side (if there is one), you'll be able to add lots of that pretty orange to your quilt. Although, you might need to add another color if you hit 100F or higher. Nice simple blocks for the Symphony BOM this time around. I bet it felt good to have an easy-peasey bit of a break compared to the more complex prior months. Looks like you're in the home stretch there. It's going to be quite exciting to finally see the quilt in all its finished glory. Please get your wiring checked out by an electrician; the breakers should not be popping that easily, and the fact that your wiring is old is concerning. Teal deer version, we had similar issues that got worse over time, and after I got a jolt when Mr O flipped the breaker back on we called in an electrician. After checking out the wiring he told me I was very, very lucky that it was a mild jolt and not a fatal shock. We'd kinda like you to stick around, you know.
@fredmakesthings

You did and I completely forgot! I'm sorry. I put your email in a folder to find easier and then promptly forgot the folder existed. I've never lived in a place that felt like this too, I grew up in a semi-arid desert with temperatures as high as this but it was dry and easy to keep out of the house. Here, the humidity is what gets you. The saying "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" is so true. I have white for it it gets hotter, I also have some yellow kicking around if I don't like it. I was so happy my BOM was simple and laid out what I have, I think it's going to look pretty cool. We are very aware of what electricity can do. My husband has a PhD in Electrical Engineering and deals with high voltage power on a daily basis. We are stupid careful when it comes to house wiring. We have an electrician coming for a few things, so this was just added to the list. We had a lot of issues when we moved into the house and had him check all the rooms and outlets and such, everything had the all clear then, so that's why we think we know what the problem might be. Still, we are leaving that room alone for now. I also want to keep myself around and maybe my husband too. it took me a minute to figure out teal deer and thought it was a weird auto correct, until I sounded it out. TLDR. weird autocorrect or not, it is now my new thing. 😁

We can't have our coffee maker or toaster going at the same time as our microwave. LOL.😅We got new air conditioners that don't need as much power and they work great and don't trip out breakers anymore. The heat here in Maine has been simply unlivable. If I didn't have an air conditioned house, I'd be sick. Usually the nights are cooler and we can open windows but the humidity has been awful and we can't do that.
@fredmakesthings
@fredmakesthings Месяц назад
I'm learning that houses are fun and that each has their own quirks. I am hoping that a more efficient air conditioner does the trick. I'm not too far from you, I live in the Hartford Connecticut area, so I understand how hot it is. I haven't been here too long, but I swear the humidity is going to kill me. I spend most of my day in my air conditioned bedroom. It is the first time in my life I have contemplated whole house air conditioning. Before this summer I was even adamantly against window air conditioners until we bought one for our room, now I understand.

Good morning and yay! Two more members of the Unpronounceable Surname Club! "But Susan," I hear you say. "Owen is EASY!" Except that's only the last four letters; my full surname has thirteen letters and a hyphen. Also, for some reason people like to put an "S" at the end of "Owen." Oddly enough, my maiden name (the 9 letters before the hyphen) does end with an S, and people like to pretend it isn't there. Oh, well. The older I get, the more I learn that old people had it right all along. Caramels & butterscotch are delicious. Sitting on the porch on a nice day & waving at the neighbors is pleasant. Knitting, sewing, and baking are fun. Why not go out to dinner at 4pm & beat the rush? Then again, having turned 60 a few months back, perhaps I need to face the fact that I *am* an old person....nah. Not for at least another decade. My dog would go nuts over that crinkle toy, presuming he was allowed to have it (he tends to eat any toy that he can rip apart, and that looks a little fragile for a tough chewer like him). Notepad, yes please! I miss the days when real estate agents would leave notepads at the door as a way of marketing themselves. (Do you remember that, or is it another old people thing?) The one in the box is super cute with the little kitty face border & dad-worthy pun. The clips are adorable, too; they look perfect (purrrrrfect) for keeping a bag of chips closed. Or maybe glue a magnet to the back, and use them to hang reminders/shopping lists/photos on the fridge. And the slippers would be quite helpful in getting fur off the floor; not sure how they'd work on carpet, but tile or hardwood - yes, very useful. Just curious how they fit width-wise? I love the color of the shirt, but the image is a little cutesy for my taste. All in all, good box this month. They stayed on theme, everything in it is nice (yes, even the shirt; just because it isn't my style doesn't mean it's inherently bad, plus the color is quite pretty), and that was a lot of stuff in one box when you get right down to it. Using prices in my area as a guideline, I'd say the value is there. T-shirts are about $25-$30 (higher than in Connecticut, apparently, but there's a high cost of living where I live) and the slippers would be about $15. That's $40 right there. Add in the toys, the notepad, the clips, the postcard, plus all the intangibles of putting the box together (paying employees, shipping, packing materials, etc etc) and the price isn't so bad after all. Happy belated birthday to your husband, and happy early birthday to you! 🎂🎂

My maiden name is French, it's only 8 letters but four are vowels and it messes people up. My first name is also a creative spelling of a classic name, so that's fun too. My husband's is an anglicized version of a Ukrainian name, and could be shortened to something like Owen too. He kind of wishes he had for his professional life. He finds it can be a bit embarrassing when he's being announced or presented in a large group and his name is messed up. He also has a heck of a time when travelling in Eastern Europe because his name is so easily recognized as Ukrainian and there's some issues they have with that. Everytime I pass by Werthers Originals in the store I am tempted to pick them up. My grandma always had them on her person and I can see why now. It's nice having a little treat while doing something else. I am not quite at the waving to people and eating at 4pm yet, I am not quite 41, but I am at the age of asking what are they doing on my lawn and why is everything so loud. You're not old, every decade has aged down 10 years, so you just hit 50 and i'm in my early 30s. my in-laws are in their mid 70's and are more active than I am. But that could be because I am an introvert at heart. Now to the actual box. I'm glad you found value in it. I'm sure prices in CT are higher than I think they are, especially since I haven't bought a tshirt since starting to get these boxes. I am really stuck in 2008 Canada for pricing. My real estate agent sends out fridge calendars with recipes every year, which is a nice touch. I don't remember notepads exactly but I do know we always had some kicking around. I'm going to put magnets on the clips and bring them to my sewing space to hold my various project pieces together. The slippers are 4.5 inches at their widest, which I find to be snug enough for my feet, which I would say are about average. Thanks for your thoughts in this box, it is nice to have a different perspective. I am happy with my choice to pause for a bit. I hope when I do Octobers, I will be excited for it again! Thanks for the birthday wishes and a happy belated one to you too!
