Yes please watch all the sequels!! Including the newer ones they are so good and gives you more of the “show us not tell us” - “random people getting annihilated” 43:54
You know that he cant read Claudia at all. I think Louis does too much thinking ALOUD too much! You have to theorize because that makes it great but surprised either way.
I always interpreted the chess scene not as Lestat becoming angry because she was able to beat him but because she did not dignify him with an actual defeat. The game meant so little to her that once she had finally won, she didn’t even care to finish it properly. It rendered the entire exercise, every game they played up to that point as meaningless. It told him that she viewed them as such, so much so that winning meant less than nothing. She was never playing to fix what was broken between them. She was playing just to appease Louis, to placate him into thinking that her and Lestat could exist together. In the dialogue and in the acting and in every movement, she makes clear she is no longer playing for Louis and Lestat, who had offered these games and lessons as an olive branch, as the best means to connect that he knew of, can see it was all just an exercise and an exercise only
Love your insight. I’ve watched the Wire about 112 times and a bunch of Wire reactions. Love how you appreciate the depth of the long form storytelling and deep character development. Love that you’re noting how the show embraces complexity too - no easy answers, no full heroes or villains, and systems resist reform
Are you able to start this masterpiece at the start? You dumb? My white ass is thinking about it! Just start The wire at season 1 episode 1. Do i have to do you dipers? Pathetic
You commented about the girl in the house across from where Omar lays his head. Omar Robs from the Rich and look out for his neighbors. They inform him if they see anything and alert him to danger ( Kima & Mcnulty stakeout).
Hello friend! Recently subscribed as well as caught up to your reactions, which are great btw and am very excited that you love the show already. Season 1 is legit just the bread of this story (*very* fine bread mind you) but all due respect you haven't even gotten the butter yet. The Wire is my second favorite show of all time (behind Breaking Bad) but I wholeheartedly believe that it is undoubtedly the greatest television series of all time. The things portrayed in the show are *still* happening and have only gotten worse since it ended which was more than a decade ago. Off of timelessness and relevancy alone makes this show and the story it's telling top tier. It's literally art as well as a televised novel. You probably won't have that big a viewership of The Wire compared to other television series because of how...unique this series is compared to others in regards to style and storytelling. This show isn't for everyone and even some reactors have stopped watching it. I understand how youtube works with yall so it's completely understandable if in the future you end up doing what you have to do for the best of your channel. However I heavily implore you to finish the series on your own time if it does come to that. If you were to make video essays on the seasons as a whole or other Wire related topics that would work as well. I promise we'll watch it 😂
33:18 Bubbles didn’t necessarily lie when he went up to take the NA token. If you listen back at 17:59, what they asked was “does anyone have 24 hours OR a sincere desire to live?” I prefer to think Bubbs has the latter.
I'm enjoying watching this with you. I saw it when it first came out and then rewatched a few years later. It's great to see someone watch it for the first time.
Wild fact I read on Reddit a few months back. The actors who played Stinkum/Savino were both 16-17 when filming this. Couple that with the actor playing Bodie who's actually playing a 16-17 yr old but was 24 at the time
21:36 Man you made me remember something that doesn’t get talked about enough and younger people might not know. But Verizon bought 75% of all the pay phones by this point. They said it was to help public access to pay phones remain across the country. But they pretty quickly started ripping them out. And we went from a few people having cell phones in 2000 to everyone needing a cell phone by 2003.
No spoilers, the character who plays Waylon is Steve Earle. Steve’s an amazing outlaw country singer and recovering heroine addict. He stated that his role “wasn’t much of a stretch”. An amazing artist I once got to meet.
What Mcnulty was saying is way go to Rawls(Backstairs) when chain of command the Captain then Coronal Before the Deputy of Opps. Remember Daniels complained first two episodes about this very thing.
Yes he supposed to say something He is just the name on the Liquor license. His loyalty is to Avon not anybody else so yes he was supposed to bring that to his uncle.
Man your reactions and insights are so on point - really enjoy watching along with you. And it only keeps on getting better from here. Hope you manage to continue with the series because all 5 seasons are fantastic!
The streets is there life 24/7 every day 365 days a year. The neighborhood and the hood is reality. And you know the Alleys the backstreets the killers the dealers the hustlers and whores. You better know your environment and you become a victim of yours.
I love when you see Stringer in class then you see the cops testing in a class environment. They keep showing you how similar things are on both sides.
Rawls and Mcnulty, Ronda can makes some calls but there’s nothing really that she can do. It’s The Commissioner’s Office and a internal problem, Mcnulty hasn’t followed the chain of command since episode one. Honorable and Understandable but rules and regulations are the job, if you want to keep the job.
Understand your not in the street either hustling or dealing or just out in the street. We learn quickly, those are the things like santa claus and the easter bunny, there isn’t no Right or FAIR because Real Life don’t work like that.
All zoos aren't created equally. Some are genuinely doing good work in conservation and others should be shut down forever. Also, Dennis is not Hammond's son. He was being sarcastic when he said "thanks, Dad". The reason he got away with being so disrespectful is because he was too important for Hammond to fire (although, the fact that Hammond's teenage granddaughter was able to undo Dennis' sabotage suggests that Dennis wasn't as rare a gem as either of them thought).
No need when you watch this show looking for a fictional world, where there happiness and peace. Everybody is moral and Pure. This is the Depiction of REAL LIFE. Infidelity, Death, Addiction, Vulgar language, lying cheating and immoral. Welcome to the REAL WORLD.
@@FrankFreezy_ no lies all facts. Where’s the problem. Im a subscriber & fan of your reaction. Just comments from Bruce, there’s a different view from the streets then in the clouds. Bro, your the only reactor at the moment of see it, Stinkum was there to take the block for the Barksdale org. But you didn’t know Omar Got the location off the board at the Detective board in the office. Omar is very aware of his surroundings.
its good that it takes you time to watch… these episodes need reflection and thinking about afterwards.. perspectives and opinions shift constantly .. its been said before, accurately, that this show is really more like a great literary piece.. thanks for watching and sharing..
51:21 yes, youre missing something. The Deputy doesnt want this case. It costs lots of the budget and ties up cops who would be solving murder cases and making arrests bumping up the stats. While theyre all on this task force the departments they came from are short handed. McNulty got the judge worked up to force them to build this case. The Deputy told him no surprises. Catching a senator's aid with 20k is a surprise thats going to cause trouble politically. A senator can cut funding or whatever and make life difficult.
