Lucas, thanks for the helpful video! Can you please post directions on how you made the rear wooden support for the mast. How did you attach it to the rudder fittings and what was the height? If you have build photos / videos, that would be great.

@@larryjordan4114 I don't have the max anymore. It was a very good boat, I learned a lot. You should be able to figure out the rigging from the video. The drain plug should be just a stock plug but if that doesn't work try a cork or rubber stopper. I still sail a lot just moved up a bit to a bigger boat.
My mast is bigger, an ODay 17, and I cannot raise it, it is too heavy and unwieldy. I have never sailed before, this is my 1st boat. What devices do I need, modifications etc. I need assistance, thanks.
Hi great video. Could you send me the dimensions of you trailer? Location of rollers and height and angle of bunks and rollers? Thanks in advance. I have a DS 2 and the hull cracked over a bunk. Prospective Daysailer owner: Nice video. I liked the ratchet strap. I sold my Rhodes22 which had a longer, heavier mast, 9 stays with Harken furler on headsail. It was a bitch getting the stays and halyards in the right place before you used their proprietary brake winch on gin pole mounted to the cabin top. Your system reinforces how simple this boat is to launch. So Thanks!

I keep meaning to install a tabernacle setup like that for my daysailer. As of now the mast needs to be lifted straight up and dropped into the cuddy. No fun
It's really difficult to raise a mast without a tabernacle by yourself. The length of the mast is too cumbersome. If your boat does not have a tabernacle and you need to raise the mast by yourself - a tabernacle is a must. DR marine has a hinge plate for $55. You can convert your boat if your mast goes through a hole in the cabin top.
The Daysailer 1 iv’e worked with has a short 4 ft. Al mast section inserted through deck, resting on mast jack in turn resting on keelson centerline. It has the hinge plate for mast mateing hinge plate on its top. 24 ft. Long mast still hard to raise alone. Thank you for ratchet strap close by illustration. Very helpful video. I just bought a Daysailer 3 and I'm confused about the rope configuration for the swing keel. It currently appears to be somewhat disassembled inside the cuddy cabin. I'm not sure how it should be connected. Could someone be kind enough to post a short video showing how the ropes coming from the keel casing are configured?
The rigging for the center board leaves a lot to desire. I was never a fan of it. Over complicated, jammed a lot, and got in the way all the time. daysailor.org has some diagrams that will help you out.
They are nice boats to sail, very fast. They came in several versions. I have the original sales brochure and the boat in the brochure is different than the one I have. My combing is an attached piece of white fiberglass and not molded into the deck like some earlier models I've seen. Can't wait for the weather to warm up around here and I can sail it again this summer on Lake Ontario.
A MAX was the 1st boat I ever sailed !!! I still have it, tho it is soft from the uv's. Mine is a lil different. the combing is behind the mast hole and I can reach around the daggerboard trunk.
I found this extremely helpful. I'm thinking of grabbing a 17 foot daysailer, never rigged one in my life. Now I feel like I have, and better understand the craft because of this video!
I bought that boat two years ago, I'm glad you found it helpful. When I got that boat home, I had no idea how to put it together. I know where you are at in the process. Lot's of good deals on 17' sailboats out there. The O'Day DaySailor is one of the best, though. Have fun and enjoy the process of learning to sail.
well, this is the reason i sold my Lightning. i had to stand the mast and then drop it in. TOO much for myself. i now sail a flying scot and can stand the mast and rig it with no probs. i'm 53 and small framed...

I like the stern mast crutch, and the idea of a strap to hold the mast at the bow before you attach the forestay. Great stuff. Still; there's a lot of stuff you could edit out, don't need to see the ENTIRE process
Yes, the range goes down a bit during the winter but there are ways to mitigate this problem. I only recharge the car late at night and time it so the charging ends just as I need to use it the next morning. This keeps the batteries warm. Next I use the heat very little, even in the cold where I live it's doable with a warm coat and gloves. Next, I just drive slower, I've learned to live with it. I'm able to get to work on 2 extra kilowatts of electricity in the winter. I have a plug at my garage that I use, it helps.
i am thinking to get an i-MiEV... how does the battery perform in winter compare to normal weather? (like spring or summer) i test drove one and it seemed like the range would decrease quite a bit on highway drive. do you agree?
