Nice one, esp for so many reps.but a genuine question: why do people arch their backs when benchpressing? It looks to me like wrong form/like it would hurt your back in the Long run.
There's a few reasons, I guess the main one you'll see people talking about is the very big arches you see in powerlifting. That's to reduce the range of motion, which means you can lift more weight as you're producing force over a shorter distance. The other reason, which is maybe more valid, is that even a small arch is a much more stable position than having a completely flat back. It's a lot easier to push into the ground with your legs and generate tension through the body, so your body stays in the same position and doesn't go sliding around the bench. Generally that's safer than lying with a flat back, the less extraneous movement the less chance of injury
@@hambone98 oh thanks, makes sense. But the extreme arches in powerlifting sound kinda dumb to me, purposely not going full range of motion, just so you can claim to have a higher one rep max. I mean it is a competition but sounds like pure ego to me haha
