Stam Reviews Movie and TV. Classic and No So Classic with an emphasis on Genre fare. Lots of Sci Fi, Adventure, Action, Comedy. Also, not entirely serious. Seriously. Not Entirely Serious.
We never once saw Servalan and Boy George in the same room together. I loved this show, I had a few tiny Corgi Liberators who’s three floppy plastic nose-cone needles I had to constantly straighten but who’s green ball engines looked cool but my dad clipped the needles and carefully melted and glued little steel spines on in their place (I think the Liberators needles were its guns? My memory isn’t clear) Blake looked sort of like my Dad or was a similar style of man but since Blake spent at least 80% more of his time fighting bad guys in space than my dad ever did, I loved Blake easily but I loved Avon too eventually that way 11 year olds love their favourite characters and made many blasters from plastic cups and wires going to my belt and made modular dash-board pods for my Star Wars figures to man so they could fly my fleet of Liberators so that Avon and Blake could continue to have many big budget adventures in my bedroom after their shows ended🤓
I think that point you made at the end was actually genius, because, like Banner, Bixby had a condition (Cancer) he couldn’t cure and instead of letting it get him down, he helped others dealing with the same problem.
Wow, this film, Earthquake and Airport ‘75 all released late in ‘74. I saw this film and Earthquake in Auckland and Airport’75 on George St in Sydney and all very memorable events in my childhood. The film’s song won an award and I think the soundtrack on the actual film was slightly better than what was officially released.
We in Canada 🇨🇦 had The Avengers in late'60s or early '70s - never Honor, both Emma and Tara. Diana Rigg & Mission Impossible's Barbara Bain were my youthful self's dream women.
The thing that people do not see with James Bond is that most of the films (and villains) are mediocre. There are a handful of great ones, a few good ones, but most are just average (but had potential there)
We went to the Drive- In to see a disaster movie double feature, and there was a big thunderstorm with lots of lightening and thunder.Added atmosphere. Luckily, there were no trailer parks around, so the risk of a tornado was minimal.
THE HK WASN'T A BAD GUY. BC DAVID WASN'T A B.G. BUT DAVID DIDN'T WANTS TO B THE HK. THE HK WASN'T BM OR SM. HE'S NOT IN CONTROL ALL THE TIME. BUT HE NEVER KILLED SOMEONE...
Chief O'Halloran: You know, one of these days, you're gonna kill 10,000 in one of these firetraps, and I'm gonna keep eating smoke and bringing out bodies until somebody asks us how to build them.
There are just so many good performances among the star-studded supporting cast in this movie but Fred Astaire steals every scene he's in. I can take or leave Paul Newman and Steve McQueen as the leads
10:54 "ting tong is like a well aged prostitute. Takes years to learn all her tricks. She is cruel and laughs at you when you're naked but I keep going back to her because she is the only prostitute I can afford." 😢
I saw the Toweing Inferno on is release in 1974 and as a 14 year old it was pretty scary. The cast fascinated me because it contained old Hollywood as well as new. I was in love with movies from childhood and had watched dozens of classic movies. The appearance of Jennifer Jones and Fred Astaie as supporting characters made this film reek with class. I saw it on a rerelease in 1981 and the couple in front of me talked all the way through it. Then it was shown at Christmas time on BBC 1 and I remember the thrill of being able to watch such a prestigious and enjoyable movie on TV. Apparently 28 million people tuned in and on the other side was Earthquake which sadly didn't register. I saw Earthquake in Sensurround a short lived gimick which upped the sound of the Earthquake to as much as human tolerance could stand. It wasn't a success and the only other movie I saw in Sensurround was the film of the TV series, Battlestar Gallactica. Great video I loved it.
I always wanted to do a Fanfiction about a new Misfits of Science using Carrie White from Carrie who had a better life and didn't freak out, Charlie McGee from Firestarter grown into a mid-teen, and a young Chinese American woman who had a 'Language Power' including Computer Languages which her a 'Super Hacker' and was a Martial Arts expert on top of that. So, a Telekinetic, Pyrokinetic (also fiery speed), and a really Smart Kung Fu expert. Unfortunately, I never could come up with a decent plot so I never tried. It just seemed like a good idea.
My first introduction to the Hitchhiker's Guide was actually the 2005 movie, which I've watched on DVD when I was a 12 years old kid and didn't particularly liked it; I didn't hate it, but had found it rather mediocre. But couple of years later I've rediscovered the franchise via, funnily enough, Fallout videogame series: I absolutely loved Fallout 2 and it was abound with Star Trek, Monty Python and The Hitchhiker's Guide references, so I gave it a second try, this time in a book form (after a feature film this is probably the easiest way to access the franchise in a non-English speaking country) and with smashing success. The BBC TV series is good too, but by the time I finally got to watch it, I had a little trouble picturing Simon Jones as anything other than the Earl of Brideshead. P.S. I was wondering, is there any chance of you making videos about some other British TV comedies, like Jeeves and Wooster, Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister, Spaced, etc?
I saw this when I was 12 and thought it was great. However, the Sensurround did get annoying. At first it did feel like the seats were shaking, but after a minute or two the novelty of that wore off and the sensation was just unrelenting loud noise. It was a relief when it stopped.
I must have watched the movie hundreds of times in my life by now. Sometimes I watch it because it is a link to the 1960s I am now 66 The movie is a time traveller.
