Totally over priced and limited access unless you want to pay even more to stay and play. Always rains there when I've played and walking isn't an option.
Isn't staying and playing all part of the experience? It almost feels like it's a must. We're clearly not locals, though. As for the weather, it was perfect for us, although at one stage we did see a cloud which was disappointing.
@GolfBarons I'm in Port, so only an hour away. Last time I played, my wife and I were teamed up with 2 other random guys to make 4, even though there were plenty of spare spots. It rained that hard after 5 holes that the cart broke down. They bought out another cart, but the course became waterlogged, and we abandoned at 9. We didn't even get a free coffee, for the $300 plus I spent. I also like a nice course you can walk, which isn't an option.
Good to see my home course getting some real attention. Worked and played there as a teenager, the routing is a little different now, and they have cleared out more of the gums in places, but still the same vibe.
It is a stunning course and I was lucky enough to play there 20 years ago. I have always dreamed about going back. It is a very deceptive course in that the visuals make a shot look easy and close but a good shot only goes half way?! It is simply perfect in every way, unless you want quick and easy golf.
I'm always overjoyed (in a controlled way, of course) when my ball hits the targets on the driving range. Usually not the one I'm aiming for, but I'll take it!!
Well done guys! Very entertaining approach to budget golf, and probably how most of us got started. I borrowed my dad's crappy set but loved the experience enough to go buy a 2nd hand set a few years later when I started earning money. Now, 40 years later, golf is pretty much all I think about.... where? when? who with? what balls will I try? Should I get a 7wood to replace my 4 iron? Do I stick with my local few courses or wander further away and play something new? It never ends!!!
I often find that when I’m on the range working on getting to a certain position throughout my backswing and I pause at that spot, even making a double pump motion as I get there, I hit it much better than when I just take a standard swing. Only works with irons though. You need the whip motion to generate power with the driver.
This was around in the early 80s. The problem is that the baseball swing has different wrist angles, and mimicking it in a golf swing leads to lots of arm rotation and 'flipping'.
We're just talking about no backswing. Once the club is set at the top, the angles are the same. It's just a really, really, really long, Hideki pause.
who said 'baseball swing'? it's a golf swing...just using the METHOD of a baseball swing, or a tennis swing...neither use a pendulum backswing that precedes the striking part of the swing... why should golf?
billy belechi predicted the no backswing golf swing nearly 40 years ago... just keep at it until the novelty wears out, and it becomes natural...makes returning to a backswing feel awkward and unnecessary.
Thanks for the background. Great name, too. If only we'd done some research, we could have given him credit. Short shots and putting are weird. Irons start to feel good pretty quickly. There's something in the idea of starting from a strong position.
@@GolfBarons the shorter the chip, the tougher to start with hands ready to release...takes a 'bouncy' movement back and forth, like a batter just before a swing, even a bunt...the club (or bat) is not static as on a stand, but free floating, so the swinger can feel the weight and presence of the club. i find putting gets easier than traditional 'pendulum' style striking...much more purposeful...and again, the shortest ones often take a moment to feel the weight of the putter and waggle it slightly before producing the 'hit'. the longer the club, the easier it seems to me...i never hit the long irons and woods so pure and straight as i do without a backswing...i feel like a big league batter with a 'tee ball', as we played when little children...the ball is just waiting there for me to hit it at will...it's like cheating!
I played with an older guy in Mesquite Nevada who did this 20 years ago. He said it did not hurt his shoulder. He hit it very good and could work a fade and a draw. He was good. But was in his 60s and disabled. I never tried it. But I was a good hitter and played Baseball for 15 years. HMMM There are players that pause/stop at the top. What is the difference from starting at the top, versus pausing?
Apologies, but thanks for the feedback. The balance needed for TV/streaming doesn't always translate well to RU-vid. Episodes are on www.golfnation.com (if interested). Phil
Excellent. Most golf instruction focuses on the backswing so why not eliminate it and start from a perfect top position? Makes sense to me. Baseball players are able to generate a lot of speed and power with no backswing so why would it not work for golfers? I'll be trying it on the range tomorrow.
Unless you are going to sleep with the club in your mouth you will probably be ok It’s inhalation of the Beryllium dust that the issue, so in the manufacturing
You're right. What's with all the conversation? It's almost like the key to a good fitting is communication between fitter and player. Online fitting suits some more than others.
I own a few of the ironwoods in the e 522 series. I got to say, they really have helped my irons. They have helped me correct my tempo and swing angle. I can feel the top of my backswing now. Started out hitting them better than my irons, but now it's the opposite my irons are about ten yards better overall.
