What wood did you use? Looks like cedar.

It was just regular 6 x 6. Lumber. I Think it’s pine or spruce? I’m not sure but I stained these before we installed them. That’s why they look a bit darker red. It’s not cedar.

This is a 10 x 16 pergola so three of the beams that run the width of the Pergola are 10 feet in length, all of the rest of the beams and legs are 8 feet in length. A 6 x 6“ beam is 5 1/2 inches wide so it doesn’t hold a lot of water/snow. In the winter when it snows, I take the fabric shade roof off during that time of year

This system definitely wasn’t designed with humid conditions in mind…here I am trying to install in the middle of the North Carolina summer. Rains every other day and when it doesn’t it’s 80% humid or worse…after letting my wood sit for over a month it still is way too fat to fit in the system lol

If you're talking about the cement slab, it is about 4inches thick, however I have a 34 inch footing that was pre-poured under each post when I originally laid the concrete. I live in Utah and needed it to reach past the frost line.

Very helpful video, thanks! Question on the redhead anchors in which I am also looking at as well....the 6x6 posts have the pre-drilled holes on the base brackets 1/2 wide so I was wondering why you went with the 3/8 instead of the 1/2 anchors? I tested with both sized anchors and seems the 1/2 will go through if you hammer it lightly through the pre-drill hole on the base, just not sure if that's ideal, whereas the 3/8 fits easily. Thanks.
@HuntAndFishExchange

That is why I went with the 3/8 size. Because the 1/2” seemed to big for the holes.

Hi there. Pergola looks great. I realize you answered this same question below, but I wanted to absolutely confirm before I commit to buying 6x6 kit. Is the thing stable or does it wiggle? Or is it rock solid? I've seen 4x4 versions wiggle/wobble quite a bit. Thank you for your thoughts.

@HuntAndFishExchange

I really didn't have a problem with my lumber fitting into the system. But I live in Utah and it is very dry here. I suggest you let it dry out if you are having issues fitting. The only prep we did was sand off all of the black ink that was stamped on the beams and then stained the beams before the install.

when it rains hard the water can not get thru the sail fast enough and the weight of the water rips the straps out of the sail. DO NOT BUY TOJA Grid ! Also TERRIBLE customer service. Ships from Canada and customs holds up your delivery and ToJa does nothing to help. DO NOT BUY ToJa Grid ! Then the wind will cause the straps to wear all the way thru and break because the attachment clasps are sharp on the edges instead of being round like they should be DO NOT BUY ToJa Grid !

@HuntAndFishExchange 4 года назад
I think 14 feet is too long of a span to have without another post supporting it. Especially if you are using 6"x6" post like I did. They are pretty heavy. It is holding up very well, I just need to re-coat come of the top beams again with Thompsons water seal/stain

I had a few questions regarding the concrete slab and the post lengths. 1. My concrete slab has a slight slope to allow for easy water runoff, do you recommend cutting the posts to the correct length beforehand? 2. What kind of Post Anchors did you use?
