I am a jazz-obsessed music nerd who wants to have a positive impact on the world through providing exquisite sonic experiences to my supportive online audience. I hope you will find as much value in these recordings as I have. If you want to hear the stories of many of these great musicians, check out my podcast at berniesbootlegs.com. Bernie, THANKS for being so kind to the person who asked of these giant men on Flea's Instagram. I do believe the man knew who COLTRANE and DOLHY are. Let's be honest though, it is not easy to distinguish images on our phones. PROPS for being so kind to him. Subscribed and shared with my Friends x!
Bill''s music is so concentrated, complex and dense, its beauty unequaled -- he, along with Coltrane, was the most influential musician in changing the language of jazz after 1960.
Wow, I completely forgot about this album. I bought it when it released, mostly because Quincy Jones produced it and it had a lot of his collaborators. I listened to Quiet Storm music or The Police at that time. I also recently found the Frank Sinatra album Jones produced, which may have been Sinatra's last. I have not heard it in 40 years. Definitely nostalgic for me. Great post.
I like jazz, but can't listen to it all the time...I have to shuffle my music to go with my moods, which can change by the hour, or even minutes at times.
A very, very special album to me. Dad bought this record for me years and years ago, and it is like no other. Mr. Shearing plays solo piano throughout, and both the playing and the recording are absolutely stunning. The MPS Studios piano sounds so warm and full. You owe it to yourself to buy this on vinyl and listen to it that way as well; you will be amazed at how good it sounds (although this upload by Bernie's Bootlegs sounds great, too).
