This video was a life saver! I've been giving one of my bearded dragons sub q fluids weekly for about 8 months or so now and with him it is pretty easy because he freezes when he's unsettled so he doesn't fight me. I recently took in a rescue bearded dragon that also needs sub q fluids weekly for awhile but he is much spicier than the beardy I have been giving fluids to. The vet tech I saw walked me through restraint for a more spirited bearded dragon but I needed a refresher when the time came for me to handle his fluids. I was just about ready to give up and schedule him a tech appointment for his fluids when I watched this. He got his fluids, and I saved him the extra stress of another trip to the vet

I had a little Guinea pig who had a hidden cyst that had ruptured, she had a HUGE hole in her neck but we couldn’t get to a vet during covid. We washed it with antibacterial stuff but it didn’t heal very well, she passed a little while later but she was 7!

Thank you so much my mother class pet turtle needs a vitamin injection and the vet I went to explained it but even he had trouble with the method you explained I was able to administer the shot in less than 5 minutes safely and effectively

I’ve been advised to use salt water, and they cut it open with no stitches, and it’s like gluey string, any advice so when she goes back to the vet I can tell them please

Excellent video! LOVE that you change to a second needle! A sharp needle inserts more easily and is, therefore, more comfortable to the bunny. I also love the tip about pulling back on the syringe to check to make sure the needle is under the skin and there’s no air. And I bet most vets don’t tell their clients to shake the penicillin vial before administering! Great, great video.

Good video. But I highly recommend using a smaller gauge needle than what vets typically give their clients to use! Vets typically use 18 gauge needles. These are quite big and administer the fluids quite quickly, thereby saving veterinary staff time. But larger needles are more painful to the animal upon insertion. The higher the gauge number, the smaller the needle. I use a 20 gauge needle for giving subQ fluids to animals. Sometimes I even use a 21 gauge needle if the animal is particularly nervous or small. The Terumo brand of needles is excellent. They are the sharpest on the market, sliding into the skin like butter! It’s best to slightly warm the fluids, which feels much more soothing to the animal than a bag of cold fluid. It’s difficult for an animal or a human to relax when cold fluid is being administered.

Just started this and did for the second time today with my turtle! This is helpful, although my turtle is very stubborn and won’t let me grab her arm. Takes about 10 minutes🤦🏼‍♀️

Is there a reason the sub q fluids would not bubble up? I have a severely dehydrated dragon where one side did, the other did not

So, you want to put needle in the muscle? Also, my vet when he had his first injection at the hospital did it on the back of his hand/paw on his front leg. Is it better to do the hand or the arm?

This video is old but my girl is getting daily subcu fluids. I was demo'ed to do it near her back legs there on the extra skin. She's being treated for high uric acid.. maybe this is why? To directly port to the kidneys? Thanks!
@SetariM
@SetariM Год назад
If you've been advised to do that by a vet for uric acid, more than likely it's to help cleanse the kidneys in this case. Follow the vet's advice.

Informational video. What can I use for a parrot instead a wet wrap? Would a normal bandage tape would work? She's developing injury on keel bone because she can't walk, her legs are disabled. And so she's a very very scared bird.

@@danjones6702 she’s fine now. Not sure if the shots aided her or if she’s better cause of the dry docking and wound care I provided.
@juliapadilla4064
@juliapadilla4064 Год назад
@@danjones6702 oh no. I’m sorry that happened. Some Vets don’t seem to know how to treat reptiles. Unless it’s a HERP Vet. Are you also dry docking and keeping the temp warm? Remember no drafts and turtles heal slow as they do everything slow.
