thanks...but that area may not be the same. I have hunted in this area since I was a teen and thats a lot of years (over 54 years). It has always been an archery only area but that is about to change in October of this year.
@@an1156 I used to hunt PTA all the time, try over by the fence line @ volcano's NATN'l park & Kapapala ranch if they ever open that area up , there are green pheasant there, a Japanese variety I think. Good Kalij country too.
How upset do locals get when mainlanders hunt? I coming over in two weeks and was thinking about throwing my bow in. Looks like a fun and beautiful hunt.
Why would we???? Some areas can get crowded and as long as you respect other hunters and give each other space there should not be any issue. In 2 weeks PuuAnahulu and Kipuka Ainahou will still be open so there should be opportunity. PTA may also be an option but you need to register and that may take awhile, you can start the registration at pta.isportsman.net/ ......there is a charge for getting your permits but no charge for getting registered. @@an1156 thank you. Some-places in the states they see a non resident plate on a vehicle out hunting. They either mess with your vehicle, leave notes, or harass on your hunt. It’s usually the exception rather then the norm. Sometimes limited hunting opportunities lead to increased emotions. Glad to hear Hawaiian hunters are open to non resident hunting. I really appreciate the info on the areas. I registered (watched safety videos) already on the PTA. I’m. just trying to figure out how to get the background check done.
There is something special about hunting with that mist/fog. Whether it be elk, deer, or sheep. My wife and I are going to be making our 11th trip to Big Island in May 2023 and plan on bringing our bows. I stumbled on to your channel and it is getting me even more excited and it is still 13 months away. Keep pumping out the hunt vids and mahalo for sharing
Hi I just started hunting. I did my first hunt in Hawaii but no luck. I’ll be heading back in May, any tips for hunting Goats with the bow? Any advice is appreciated, still being spoon fed information how to properly stock and what I’m looking for in what goats hang in. Thanks!
Public hunting in PuuAnahulu will still be open for goats and sheep. Goats are still plentiful and relatively easy to find. Like most game mammals the best times to stalk them is in the early morning and afternoon when they are feeding. Goat tend to feed earlier and longer than sheep making them vulnerable to stop and stalk strategies. A lot of times its a waiting game and once things fall into place it happens quickly. The goats are just starting the rut and it will probably go on through the middle of May so it should be a good time. Had a good hunt today but missed my opportunity so I am heading back tomorrow. No have not had problems so far...although my XCarve is pretty new. All I can suggest is that you check the tension on your belts, and sometimes if your cut rate is to aggressive the belts may slip so try slowing down the rate.
